22.01.2022 At Normanhurst Vet Practice we have found forever homes for quite a few of our rescue cats and kittens over the years. This week two of our rescue cats were boarding with us. Rocko was just a young kitten when he arrived at our clinic back in 2012.... Lucky came to us pregnant in 2013 and gave birth at our practice to 5 beautiful kittens who also found their forever homes.

20.01.2022 Beautiful Ruby has had her babies! 5 gorgeous little bundles with 4 ginger boys and 1 tortie girl. Ruby is a wonderful mother and a very gentle soul. We are all a little bit in love with her and her babies.

20.01.2022 Heres some cute photos of 4 of the 7 kittens we currently have up for adoption! Adoption is $300 and includes first vaccination, desexing, microchipping and registration, as well as some kitten love to warm your winter

20.01.2022 We are sure that many of our clients have heard about the recent confirmed cases of Leptospirosis in Sydney. This disease is caused by a bacteria from the genus Leptospirosis which is commonly found in its reservoir host, rats and mice, who dont show signs of infection but excrete the bacteria in their urine. Dogs are what we call "incidental hosts" and can be infected by coming into contact with infected rats or mice, as well as contaminated water. Early signs of infection... in dogs is lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea however the infection can cause more serious signs such as liver and kidney failure, bleeding and seizuring if left untreated. Fortunately the bacterial does not commonly affect cats! This disease is zoonotic, which means it can spread to humans, early signs is a flu like illness so it is important to contact your General Practitioner with any human health concerns. At present these cases appear to be limited to areas of Inner Western Sydney. Current reccomendations by the Australian Veterinary Association is to vaccinate dogs that live in these areas or often visit them. This is a separate vaccine to the usual parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis and kennel cough vaccines. The University of Sydney is conducting research into the prevalence of Leptospirosis in dogs throughout Sydney. We will update you with any relevant findings to our area :) We also ask you to protect your dogs by preventing access to feral rats and mice, and keep them away from stagnant water. If you have any concerns or questions feel free to call us! Side note: the dog in the photo doesnt have Leptospirosis, hes such got a cute nose!

16.01.2022 Nero came in for a casual visit last weekend and we couldnt help but admire the amazing condition he is in. Up to 80% of pets are overweight which predisposes them to various health conditions and cut up to 3 years off their life. Not Nero! Photos dont do him justice and his dedicated owner walks him on average 10km every day. Well done!

14.01.2022 Here at Normanhurst Vet, we have seen quite a few cats not grooming themselves as well as they used to. This can lead to the fur becoming matted which will cause discomfort. Under grooming can be due to numerous reasons like: obesity; arthritis; oral health problems; or an underlying health condition. If your cat develops mats give us a call to discuss how we can help your furry friend untwine.

12.01.2022 When we asked Pusso what its like to be a boarding cat, this is what she had to say... "Ive had my breakfast, Ive had my head scratched, the nurses have told me they love me, and now I start my busy napping schedule"

11.01.2022 The recent outbreak of coronavirus is on the forefront of everyones mind. And so, it is worth considering how the coronavirus effects our beloved pets. Here is a few points to consider when it comes to coronavirus and our furry friends. The current coronavirus has not been seen before in people or animals and is called SARS-CoV-2; There are many different types of coronavirus. SARS-CoV-2 is a beta coronavirus and causes illness in the respiratory system of people, where...as common coronaviruses that infect dogs and cats are alfa coronaviruses and effect the gastrointestinal tract. Typical coronaviruses that dogs and cats are not transferred to people; No dogs or cats have become ill from SARS-CoV-2; According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pets are not thought to be involved in spreading SARS-CoV-2 to people or to other animals; However, the CDC recommends that people who are diagnosed with the disease Covid-19 should have limited contact with pets, and wash their hands before and after close contact with pets. At this stage, these are only precautionary measures. For more information, visit cdc.gov/covid19, or ava.com.au/coronavirus, or who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019. See more

11.01.2022 Our 2 beautiful kittens Bonnie (m/chip 953010004946037) and Eclipse (m/chip 953010004946029) are still waiting patiently for their furever homes. They are beautiful girls who have both been desexed and vaccinated, ready to go to their new homes. Please call the clinic on 9489 6000 to arrange a meet and greet with these gorgeous kittens.

10.01.2022 One of the most gratifying things about treating wildlife is being able to release them back into their natural habitat. This little Blue Tongue had been brought into our clinic after having an accident with a garage door. Unfortunately he didnt make it through the door in time and his tail was cut off. Lizards are lucky in that they can regrow their tails as long as they still have their hemipenes. Our little fellow still had his intact so with some TLC from the vets and nurses he was able to be released where he was found.

10.01.2022 Due to COVID 19, we are experiencing a delay with certain pet prescription diets and pet medications. If your pet requires a prescription food or medication please give us plenty of notice before your pet runs out. Please contact us on (02) 9489 6000 or email us on [email protected]

08.01.2022 Our sassy Queen Kalypso and perfect Prince Liquorice are still looking for their forever homes. They have very different personalities but each will make a wonderful addition to any home.... For a snuggle and to meet our beautiful kittens pop into the clinic any time.

08.01.2022 We have had a very special visitor in the clinic in the last few days. #juliusthekoala has been visiting a lot of vet clinics and teaching institutions over the last few months to help raise money for the wildlife affected by the summer bushfires. By the end of January it was estimated that over 1.25 billion animals were killed across Australia due to the ravaging bushfires that affected many of our states. For every clinic that Julius visits and has a photo taken in, B.Braun are donating $25 to WIRES to help in the rehabilitation of all the wildlife left hurt and injured. Thanks to B.Braun for such a wonderful initiative to help our precious wildlife.

07.01.2022 How many tries does it take to get a photo of Boarding Kitty Dooby? One. The answer is one. He is just purrfect.

07.01.2022 Sometimes dogs and cats are not the only strays we have brought into the clinic after losing their way home. Yesterday we had 2 gorgeous little budgies brought in - separately. They are both very tame and obviously belong in a home not in the wild. They are so cute we cant show their faces! If you have lost a budgie in the last few days please give the clinic a call on 9489 6000 and describe them to us so we can hopefully reunite you.

04.01.2022 One of the many things we teach through our puppy preschool program is socialization. Did you know that the most important time for socializing is between 3 to 16 weeks of age. This is extremely important for puppies to develop confidence and social skills needed for their adulthood. Here is Archie and Michi learning that Normanhurst Vet Practice is a fun and safe environment.... Our next Puppy preschool program starts on the 8th of January.

Thought you may put him up on your social media. He was rescued as a homeless cat by the Mini Kitty Commune and had most of his teeth removed and all of his fur shaved off as it was badly matted. We adopted Hef to give this 13 year old boy a happy rest of his life. Normanhurst Vet is treating Hef for his bad arthritis and an ear infection remnants of his life as a street cat. Hef has three female cats to keep him company and Buster our Cavoodle. Looking forward to his long hair regrowing and looking back like the Persian he is. Hope this inspires someone to adopt an older cat or dog. Hef is full of love and such a character. "
