24.01.2022 Today is world bee day. Raising awareness of the importance of bees and beekeeping, informing the public of beekeeping ... Observation of the World Bee Day in 2020
22.01.2022 Take over swarm, let’s hope we catch them.... had to move the white one away as it was under attack and put a bait hive that I had in its place straight away they are piling in. Fingers crossed we catch it
21.01.2022 As always here is some amazing photography from Geoffrey Dutton
16.01.2022 There is a native bee hive of TC in this bucket. A tree came down in last Saturday’s storm. The home owner only got around to cleaning them up this Saturday. I... got a call Saturday afternoon about a tree that had smashed open when it fell exposing the hive. I was told it was in bits so advised him to put it in a big plastic container as nothing else was available. A bucket with lid did just nicely. He put the contents into the bucket with a twig holding the lid slightly open. It was left until late this afternoon (Monday) to collect. All the bees had found their temporary home. The hive is actually in really good shape. Most is still incased in batumen with some stores seperate. I will be boxing these in the morning. See more
16.01.2022 This afternoon we performed another water meter rescue. Nice amount of brood and plenty of numbers loving the beginning of spring. Can you spot the queen
16.01.2022 Rescue hive from an old log,.....sent for a holiday to a property at D’Agular - ladies Have built involucrum over the brood to keep them warm as they have obviously noticed the difference in temperature. Was rescued out of the log at the end of February
15.01.2022 Dean is the book of knowledge when it comes to experience with native bees.... here is a page to browse if your proper interested in the future of our bees and horticulture
14.01.2022 Good morning - happy Sunday! Early water meter rescue this morning. Girls decided to build their honey stores above and around of the brood which made it very intricate to ensure no honey spills over the brood. They will be very happy in their new home and huge numbers in this colony!
13.01.2022 Watching this Queen bee for the last 14 minutes with my daughter and trying to explain what the bees are doing. The queen bee finally lays her egg and nurse bee finishes "capping" brood cell.
13.01.2022 Today I had a call from Allan at Morayfield who discovered a small hive in some fire wood that he was cutting up. I can tell Allan and his family will become hooked on native bees. Good little rescue- little bit smaller than I would have liked to see but I’m confident it has good numbers. Good to see the young queen crusing around.
12.01.2022 Good morning. Here’s is a video through the viewing panel of a hive with good numbers only recently rescued from a water meter.
11.01.2022 Had a call to D’Aguilar. Some lovely people were removing their dangerous dead trees. Tree was full of white ants, honey ants and a little TC hive. After some mucking around we located the queen. Low numbers but pretty confident we can save it. Good work identifying them quickly Erin and Jessica
10.01.2022 Went to Morayfield to visit Allan and his bees today after we rescued them a number of weeks back. Numbers are great and Al loves how they close their little curtain over the entrance hole at night. They are going great mate
09.01.2022 For anyone interested - forever something new to learn
07.01.2022 Wondering if anyone would be willing to swap a Tc hive for an AA ( boxed) I only have an AA in a log and would live to be able to watch their progress through a viewing panel from time to time. I’m located kallangur
05.01.2022 Erin and Jessica, you will be pleased to know that the bees we rescued out of the dead tree stump at D’Aguilar have bounced back even through the cold. Still yet to see the queen pop her head up but brood is all covered over and bees are powering on.
03.01.2022 Good morning. I attended this lecture last week via zoom. So much info if you have a spare chance to watch. Have a great weekend!
