20.01.2022 North Bowling Club Report There has been some great days and some rather windy days on the greens of late, but it hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of the players coming out to bowl, social bowls number on Saturday have been slightly down with bowlers having pennants commitments at the moment, but we are still having some games of bowls. ... 15.01.2022 North Bowling Club Report It’s been a busy few weeks at the club again with the number of social bowlers increasing again as the weather is starting to finally warm up, we also had a strong turnout for the 50UP Sav and Roll day being played over the past weekend in absolutely fantastic sunny mild conditions, the day was a great success thanks to the bowlers that were involved. A massive thanks goes out to Ivan Read, Charlie Sultana, and Bob Sultana, without the tireless wor...k these 3 gentlemen behind the bar and the kitchen these events wouldn’t be as successful as they have been. Congratulations on a well deserved victory to Mark Bloomfield on taking out the 50UP Singles final and Tom Sladden as runner up in what turned out to be a great match up. 14.01.2022 North Bowling Club Report Last Sunday saw the Men’s Major Championship Pair’s final played out in warm but great conditions, this year’s final was between two of the clubs strongest teams Dustin Williams and Jeff Rushforth up against last year’s champions Jeff Sudweeks and Mark Bloomfield. The game started as a tight and tough battle that everyone expected, until midway through the game when Dustin Williams and Jeff Rushforth jumped out to a commanding lead scoring multiple... shots in 3 ends, Jeff Sudweeks and Mark Bloomfield fought back hard over the later ends of the game, however Dustin and Jeff dug in to close out the game with a commanding lead. Congratulations to Dustin Williams and Jeff Rushforth on becoming this year’s club Men’s Major Pair’s Champions. 10.01.2022 North Bowling Club Report The bowling club over the last few weeks has held a couple of very successful tournaments that has seen some fantastic support from members and the bowling community in general , the first of these tournaments was the Butchers Day triples held on Sunday 28 Aug, which saw a full rink of teams. The games were played under excellent conditions and in great spirit, the club would like to thank Top End Meats for their support and sponsorship of this eve...nt that is greatly appreciated by the club and members. After 3 games of ten ends over the course of the day the standings were as follows. Winners: Graham Riley, Jeff Sudweeks, and Barry Hooker. Second: Barry Sladden, Ethan Merritt, and Brian Jones. Third: Graham Moldenhauer, Ian Turley, and Tony Brown. On Sunday 11 Sep in honor of past members of the bowling community the Memorial Day Pair’s were held, this year the event became the inaugural Kevin Gebhardt Memorial Day Pair’s to honor the passing of one of the bowling communities most influential and respected members, which saw this tournament become the biggest event the club has seen in many years with both rinks full with 28 teams taking to the greens. The competition was fierce and competitive with some very strong teams in the running throughout the day, with every team doing their best to become the events inaugural winner, the competition was so tight that only 3 points separated first to third with those 3 teams winning all their 4 games to be in the running. Congratulations to the winners of the day: Lou Garnaut and Alan Taylor with points totaling 193. Second place went to Ethan Merritt and Peter Merritt with points totaling 191. Third place went to Joe Calleia and Brian Fenton with points totaling 190. Thank you to all those who took part in the event, the ladies and gentlemen behind the scenes for all their hard work and making the tournament such a special event and so successful, I’m sure this tournament will only get stronger as time goes on with the strong support we received this year.
07.01.2022 North Bowling Club Report It’s been a busy couple of weeks at the club with the Club Triples being played as well as the inaugural Broken Hill Police Charity Fundraising Day last Sunday, with over 150 people attending the event it proved to be a huge success in raising money for a great cause, the day include a 2 bowls triples Barefoot bowls tournament, Sausage Sizzle, Jumping Castle for the kids, live music, raffles, auction and a whole lot of laughter and good fun.
