21.01.2022 A large block of bushland (195 ha) is currently for sale at Diana’s Basin, near St Helens on Tasmanian’s east coast. https://www.realestate.com.au/property-residential+land-tas We are posting this here to highlight the significant conservation values of the land, hoping that a conservation-minded buyer might consider this property. ... The vegetation is a mosaic of heathland, and Eucalyptus sieberi (Ironbark) and Eucalyptus amygdalina (Black Peppermint) forest/woodland with a diverse understorey of flowering shrubs. There are some small patches of Eucalyptus ovata (Black Gum) forest and wetland fringe vegetation. Threatened plant species on the property include the EPBC listed Connospermum hookeri (Smokebush), and listed Tasmanian Threatened Species Acacia ulicifolia and Hibbertia virgata. It is suitable habitat for a wide array of bird species and threatened fauna such as the New Holland Mouse, Spot-tailed Quoll, White-bellied Sea Eagle and Eastern Barred Bandicoot. The landscape context of the block is excellent, as a significant part of the land adjoins the St Helens Point Conservation Area via the Diana’s Basin wetland.

15.01.2022 We recently completed 3 weeks of wildlife monitoring using motion-sensor cameras at one of our properties near South Sister, St Marys. Cameras took nearly 3000 photos, recording some excellent finds including: Spot-tailed quoll, Tassie devils (at least 4 different individuals), Common wombat and Australian owlet nightjar. Two of the Tassie devils had pouch young. A few photos below.

06.01.2022 The NETLT Committee recently visited the Trust’s Diana’s Basin and Binalong Bay conservation properties containing two undisturbed, virtually weed-free, and biodiverse vegetation communities. Although not large (~1 ha and ~4 ha, respectively) these properties provide critical habitat and important vegetation communities, for example Eucalyptus globulus (Blue Gum) forest and Swift Parrot habitat at Diana’s Basin and Eucalyptus ovata (Black Gum) forest at Binalong Bay. Both pro...perties have good landscape context being located next to Conservation Areas and in the case of the Binalong Bay land, also a large conservation covenant Diana’s Basin was donated to the Trust approximately six years ago and Binalong Bay is in the process of being handed over from the Break O’Day Council. NETLT also facilitated the donation of a (20 ha) bushland property near North Sister St Marys for conservation purposes back in 2013. This land is now owned by the Tasmanian Land Conservancy but NETLT undertakes wildlife surveys on the land on a regular basis. The Trust is wholly volunteer-based and relies on donations from individuals and philanthropic groups to continue to ensure that the East Coast retains areas of natural beauty and ecological values.
