21.01.2022 Back pain is one of the most common causes of disability on the planet. This is Brilliant piece produced by the Canadian chiropractic association. Simple and evidence based...

21.01.2022 I 100% agree with this, even after 15 years working as a chiropractor I’m still shocked on a weekly basic how long people put up with back pain, neck paid, headaches and migraine before they seek assistance..

20.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL SPINE EXPERTS CALL FOR IMPROVED ADHERENCE TO GUIDELINES. WFC Research Committee member, Professor Jan Hartvigsen is one of 4 world-class authors o...f an update paper published in the journal Pain [1], openly accessible at http://bit.ly/Pain_LBP_2020. The paper repeats calls to abandon low value care and adhere to international guidelines. Current evidence continues to support non-surgical, non-drug approaches to low back pain. The paper highlights the dangers of opioids, noting that manufacturers are aggressively marketing them in low- and middle-income countries, and the worrying increase in the use of gabapentinoids. The ongoing scale of spine surgery, particularly fusion, despite limited evidence of effectiveness, is highlighted. The paper draws attention to persistent use of diagnostic imaging, including MRI and x-ray, in the management of low back pain despite evidence against its routine use and associated multi-million dollar costs. The paper concludes that despite unprecedented global publicity of the Lancet series of papers, governments, policy makers, educators, regulators and clinicians still have much work to do before best practice recommendations are adopted. As non-surgical, conservative spine care experts, chiropractors are well placed to implement evidence-based, people-centered, interprofessional and collaborative strategies. This is the time to #BeEPIC Reference [1]: Buchbinder R, Underwood M, Hartvigsen J, Maher C. The Lancet series call to action to reduce low value care for low back pain: an update. 15.01.2022 After Graham our top gardening patient dropped me off two banana suckers to plant at home it got me thinking. With Bunnings being out of stock of seeds if anyone would like some seeds to plant with their kids etc let me know I have a half dozen here to share (see picture of what I have) PS Let me assure you Australia WILL NOT run out of food so you don’t need this for survival purposes ha ha ha but it would be a great learning activity to do with young kids during school holidays and term 2. Plus a great activity for anyone to do during self isolation. Attached are some pics of sunflowers my 4yr old and I grew from seed.

10.01.2022 Written by a chiropractor friend of mine down south. Totally flattered that friends think I know what I'm doing with homeschooling to ask for advice... So I'm sharing here for anyone that needs it. Disclaimer: I don't know what I'm doing but I've had some experience at not knowing what I'm doing (AKA -homeschooling). You don't need to homeschool your young children right now. The world is upside down and there is a lot of fear. Brains do not learn best in a fearful environm...ent so instead work on being together, present, loving and playful. My children learn the WORST when I try to play teacher. If I decide what they need to learn they couldn't give 2 hoots about it, and it all ends in tears and frustration - for all of us. What are they asking about/reading about/interested in? Dive deeper there, or do activities around it, or even just answer their questions and move on. Do you get frustrated when people start giving you too much info? Yep so do they. Each child learns their own way. It may not be your way. Find their way. For example: Van reads - all day - and picks up the smallest details in a book and asks about that, and that is how he learns best. Tesse crafts, does worksheets, practices over and over until she gets it. She asks great questions, and doesn't care about mistakes. Van prefers to find the answer himself or wait until he knows he can do something. It's ok for them to be bored. It's not your responsibility to entertain them all day. This is where the brilliance happens! Sure give them some open suggestion if they want them, but watch what they create without you. This is the creativity that adults have lost and spend time and money trying to get back. Drop your expectations! It's not school. Have fun. Even for homeschoolers this is not normal. We normally are out and about learning about the world for inspiration, being social, and playing sports to get the crazy energy out. Being inside all day is not normal homeschooling. We normally have other families that support each other because some days are tough Children can learn in half an hour of their intense interest what they learn in a day at school. You don't have to 'teach' all day. (No, I did not accurately measure that statistic. I made it up to make a point). Children can't not learn. They are always learning - it may just look more like learning about life, and play at the moment, and that is great. Right now my house is an A-grade mess, with a week's worth laundry piled up. You can't have it all. Have fun - and I look forward to seeing you at a homeschool meet up when we can meet again

03.01.2022 97% OF LUMBAR DISC HERNIATIONS MANAGED SUCCESSFULLY WITHOUT SURGERY, SAYS STUDY. Results of a retrospective cohort study [1] including almost 280,000 subjects have concluded that prolapsed lumbar intervertebral discs may be successfully managed without the need for surgery in 97% of cases. The study examined the records of adults presenting 2007 to 2017 selected from a large insurance database. Only 3% failed non-operative therapy and underwent microdiscectomy. Of the patie...nts requiring surgery, the majority were male and an association was found with a history of lumbar spinal epidural injection or perioperative opioid use, leading the study to conclude that male gender and a history of prior opioid use were independent predictors of non-operative treatment failure. The study provides yet more evidence supporting treatment and management interventions for lumbar disc herniation commonly provided by chiropractors, including manual therapy, education, exercise prescription and self-management strategies.
