04.01.2022 Letter to Kevin Anderson MP - RE: COVID Restrictions singing in church Dear Kevin Thanks for your leadership during the COVID19 crisis. I've appreciated the Government's wise leadership through these difficult times, and are thankful for the position NSW and ultimately Australia is in compared to many other places in the world. I am writing to request that you quickly address a disparity in the way churches are being treated in regard to singing compared to others in the p...ost COVID-19 reopening rollout. If Stadiums are able to have 10’s of thousands of people singing the National Anthem, shouting and cheering in a State of Origin/ Wallabies match (Outdoors but still in an enclosed area), then surely churches should be able to also sing in a socially distant spacing in church. The government has been easing restrictions in other areas as the risk of COVID has been decreasing in our state however there’s been no easing of the no congregational singing restriction in churches. Churches fulfill a very important role in our community, playing a significant place in the whole health and well-being of its people. Singing has always been a very significant part of our worship as we praise God and encourage one another. Therefore, not being able to sing in church has resulted in a significant part of our service being absent. The thought of gathering for a Christmas service without being able to sing a carol is a significant grief for the Christian community at such an important festival for us. Church leadership is equally able to competently manage the same risks that Stadiums are being asked to manage. If it’s safe for people to sing in a Stadium, then surely it’s safe to sing in a half full church due to practicing social distancing, who are operating in a safe and responsible way. I hope you and your fellow leadership will reconsider this issue and move quickly to adjust this in time for Christmas services. Yours Sincerely Rev Scott Dunlop North Tamworth Anglican Church See more
