25.01.2022 Big shout out to Olly's Car & Furniture upholster. He did a small love job for us recently that could go a long way to helping save someone's life in a car accident. It wasn't much but it means a lot. Thanks Olly

24.01.2022 In attending incidents, particularly vehicle fires, firefighters are exposed to a number of carcinogens and there is a significant link between firefighting and the increased risk of specific cancers, such as prostate and Lympho-haematopoetic cancer. To support our fellow emergency services volunteers who are diagnosed with cancer and to increase research into cancer prevention, detection and treatments, Northam VFRS is participating in the Cancer Council WA Relay For Life. Any donation to our team is greatly appreciated and goes directly to Cancer Council Western Australia. https://secure.fundraising.cancer.org.au//RelayforLi/CCWA

24.01.2022 This is how quickly a bushfire can overrun you. Within three minutes, fire crews in NSW go from setting up for property protection to fleeing for their lives due to a change of wind. Always have your bushfire survival plan ready. To help make your plan see https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/firechat/Pages/default.htm

24.01.2022 This weekend some more of our volunteers completed a number of intensive live fire drills at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA Firefighting Academy to gain competency in entering and extinguishing structure fires. 22.01.2022 Social distancing might be a relatively new concept, but keeping everything a metre from your heater isn't! Thanks to working smoke alarms the occupants of this... home made it out, after a heater that was too close to the bed sparked a fire Temperatures are going down so make sure you brush up on Home Fire Safety: https://bit.ly/2ZF4IJY

21.01.2022 Do you have kids aged between 11 and 17. If you think they would like to give junior fire and rescue running team a go come on down to our Henry Street oval running track this Sunday from 9am and have a go

21.01.2022 Northam VFRS will be conducting planned burns at various locations around Northam on Saturdays and some weekdays as per approved Shire of Northam permits until early November. As always we will door knock and notify residents nearby and our appliances will always be at the property Planned burning is the deliberate burning of a specific area, under carefully managed conditions, to reduce fuel such as dead wood and leaf litter thus potentially reducing the impact of fire. Wh...en a fire enters an area of reduced fuel, the rate of bushfire spread slows and the intensity at which it burns is reduced. This means landholders and firefighters have a better chance of containing the fire and it is less likely to cause damage to property. If you are in an area of smoke: Stay indoors and close all windows and doors. Bring your pets and any laundry inside. If your air conditioner is on, switch it to ‘recycle’ or ‘recirculate’ to reduce smoke coming inside your home. Thank you for your understanding

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Hayley of Northam for winning the wood raffle. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets or donated and a big thanks to Lloyds Earthmoving for donating the wood!

19.01.2022 May 4th is International Firefighter's Day. It was instituted after a proposal was emailed out across the world on January 4, 1999 due to the deaths of five firefighters under tragic circumstances on December 2 1998 in a bushfire in Linton, Victoria. https://www.facebook.com/317652454984862/posts/2844461105637305/

06.01.2022 Two of our volunteers have recently returned from separate deployments with other career and volunteer firefighters at fires around Cooma, NSW and Balladonia, WA.
