13.01.2022 #BREAKING: The restrictions on takeaway alcohol introduced as part of the response to COVID-19 have been lifted by the State Government. STORY: https://ab.co/3b...nxn9x. Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia CSC MLA said the positive response from the community allowed the restrictions to be eased after only a few weeks. "I would like to thank West Australians for acting responsibly during this difficult time helping to ensure no extra pressure was placed on our health system, police or community sectors," he said. The temporary restrictions were introduced in late March and were designed to minimise alcohol-related problems in the community so that the health system, police and community services could focus on the response to the virus. Mr Papalia commended the community for their conduct and thanked the liquor industry for their co-operation. "We ask all Western Australians who consume alcohol to do so responsibly, while practising social distancing and following all public health advice," he said. Existing takeaway alcohol restrictions in particular communities unrelated to COVID-19 will remain in place.

04.01.2022 Just in time for the long weekend ahead, some cracking specials to get you all through

03.01.2022 I'm sure you've heard me say it before - travelling around Western Australia is a world-class experience. From the unique landscapes of the Kimberley and Pilbar...a to the gourmet paradise of the South West, and everything in between, our State has so much to see and do. But, sadly, this just isn't the time for it. We've made the extremely difficult and completely unprecedented decision to shut down travel between WA's regions. From midnight Tuesday, restrictions will be placed on travel within the entire State of Western Australia. Western Australians will not be permitted to leave their regional boundary. It’s absolutely vital every Western Australian understands you cannot travel within WA. It must stop immediately. Police have the power to enforce these restrictions if necessary, and fines of up to $50,000 can be issued. To be clear, those are: the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid-West, Goldfields-Esperance, Wheatbelt, Great Southern and South West. Due to their proximity and interconnected nature, Perth and Peel will be treated as one region. The health and safety of people in regional Western Australia must be our priority. Exemptions will apply for, among other things, essential services and workers, including health and emergency services; people living in ‘border communities’, who may not have access to groceries or supplies within their region; employment purposes; medical reasons; transport of essential goods and some compassionate grounds. Additional restrictions to remote Aboriginal communities were announced by Aboriginal Affairs Minister Ben Wyatt this week, to provide extra protection to these vulnerable communities. If you are currently away from home - you need to come back. Now. If you were planning a trip - you cannot go. But I have one important request - don't cancel your bookings with our regional hotels, tours or other providers - postpone them instead. This won't last forever, so let's do what we can to make sure those businesses are still there once it is over. That next trip will just be so much sweeter.
