24.01.2022 This is a very challenging time for everyone involved in our lifesaving family. Many of our members and their loved ones have been and will be effected in many different ways. It’s now more important than ever that we ensure our friends, families and clubbies are OK. We are calling on all our members to offer support to one another at this time. We encourage you to seek out regular phone contact with your peers or if you would like more formal assistance, call: Mindspot ... free telephone or digital mental health assessment, treatment and resources on coping with COVID-19 - 1800 614 434 Lifeline - 13 11 14 Kids helpline - 1800 551 800 Small acts of kindness can make all the difference!!

22.01.2022 Yesterday's Townsville Secondary School Surf League was a huge success with record numbers of participants and schools having a great day on The Strand. There were over 110 high school students from 11 different schools from Townsville and Ingham running, swimming, diving, paddling and having a lot of fun! Congratulations to Annandale Christian College, who just edged out St Patrick's College and Townsville Grammar for the title of Champion School. A massive thank you to SLSQ regional development officer Zoe Breitkreutz for organising such a successful (and record breaking) event and all the awesome volunteers from our great NBB clubs who helped out as officials, water safety and with equipment!

22.01.2022 What a weekend!! Congratulations to everyone who competed last weekend at the North Barrier Branch Championships for 2020. Everyone did amazing and it was great to see so many people on the beach. A big thank you to all of our water safety and officials and Sarina for hosting this year. Enjoy a Christmas break everyone! You earned it.

21.01.2022 On this, the final weekend of our patrolling season, we would normally conduct a Memorial Day commemorative service on the beach at one of our North Barrier Branch clubs. Unfortunately this can’t take place this weekend, however, the NBB executive would like to invite all members to pause for a minute silence at 10am today (Sunday) to reflect and remember the lifesavers and the relatives and friends of our members who have passed away over the previous 12 months. Australian ...Lifesaver’s Prayer O Lord of all good life, Who has given to my fellows and me in this land of Australia, Bathed in sunshine, Enriched by the bounties of nature, Encircled by the rolling waves, I ask that You will accept the service that I offer As a guardian of the lives of others. I give thanks for the joy of living, The Strength of manhood, The honour of the noble deed, Teach me to know that the value of a single life Is of infinite worth in Your sight. May I ever be alert to the needs of those Whose safety is dependent on my vigilance. Help me at all times to play the man And never to flinch at the call of my duty. Make me ready to match the moment of testing With the spirit of courage and adventure. Make me strong and steadfast In the service that I have embraced. Help me to be a good comrade. May I never be disheartened By difficulties or discouraged by discipline. May the standard of my life be a help To those who look to me for an example. Help me to offer to You, to my club, And to those whose safety is dependent on my skills Nothing less than the best I can give. And to ask for no reward Save that of knowing that I do my duty and fulfil Your will. O Lord, my God accept this prayer Amen Thank you to all our North Barrier lifesavers who have chosen to selflessly give their time and skills these past 8 months to keep our beaches safe for our communities to enjoy.

09.01.2022 We would like to congratulate this year’s NBB Surf Girl Ambassadors, Keesha Close from Mackay SLSC and Toni Morgan from Ayr SLSC. Keesha and Toni have done an exceptional job raising funds and creating community awareness for their respective clubs. In conjunction with the other 6 Surf Girl Ambassadors from across Queensland, they have collectively raised over $500,000, which is a phenomenal effort, particularly given the challenges and disruptions caused by covid-19. After ...the initial disappointment of the annual Surf Girl Ball being postponed, it’s great that Keesha and Toni will now have the opportunity to celebrate their successes and be recognised for their efforts at a new date in August. Thank you Keesha and Toni for being wonderful ambassadors for surf lifesaving across the North Barrier Branch and continuing the proud history of the Surf Girl program.
