25.01.2022 Big day tomorrow for the Club with the iconic Stan Mac swim from 2pm. We are hosting this year and look forward to seeing an enthusiastic cheer squad on hand to inspire our swimmers. Post -race several Bondi members will be making their way to our club for the presentation. With COVID restrictions, it will be harder than usual to accomodate the numbers of members and friends for our normal Sunday drinks. As hosts we will have to prioritise Stan Mac competitors from both clubs.... In the circumstances we ask that those wishing to attend regular club drinks to consider a later start to allow Stan Mac patrons to subside. I would also request you consider inviting any non member friends to club drinks on another occasion rather than tomorrow so we don’t need to turn them away or any of our members or swimmers away. We will use the Ros Packer Room and outdoor balconies to maximise our permitted numbers but everyone needs to be seated while drinking. If you are bringing any kids please direct them to the Youth Room and Club forecourt to free up the bar areas. Finally if everyone could be cooperative and compliant if our numbers are higher than usual it will make life easier for everyone. Thanks all Andrew Christopher President See more
24.01.2022 *Club Photo and Christmas Party* The Club photo will take place at 1:00 PM on Sunday. Due to COVID restrictions, things will be a bit different this year. Please ensure that no bags, towels, personal items, bikes, cars etc. are on the veranda. We need all the space we can this year to maintain social distancing during the photo shoot. When the Club photo has finished, we are encouraging Nippers and Nipper parents to head up to Level 2 for lunch for the 1:00 PM serving of fo...od. All other members are asked to wait and attend the 3:00 PM serving unless there is room upstairs. We are allowed to have 60 people in the Legends Room, 70 in the Ben Buckler Room and 38 on the Terrace. As such, we are limited to 168 people on Level 2 inclusive of children. You may move furniture within the room in which you are seated but, you cannot move tables or chairs to another room. If Level 2 is at capacity, the Roz Packer Room will be open, and we are allowed 60 people inside. No one will be allowed on the terrace off Roz Packer except for those members on patrol. If you wish to move to Level 2, you can put your name on the wait list and will be seated on a first come first-served basis, when and if space becomes available. The following bars will be open for your convenience: Ben Buckler Bar Level 2: full-service bar including beer, cocktails and wines and/or bubbles by the glass. Legends Bar Level 2: only beer and wine and/or bubbles by the bottle. Ros Packer Room only beer and wine service by the glass or by the bottle. We ask that attendees be seated at all times inside AND outside on the Level 2 terrace unless you are getting food, in line at the bar, on your way to the toilets or leaving the premises. No exceptions unless you are working or volunteering. Please be respectful of the COVID Marshalls and do as you are instructed. They are volunteering their time so that the party runs smoothly and efficiently, and the Club avoids any penalty or fine for violating any restriction. Any rude or disrespectful treatment towards a volunteer or staff member will not be tolerated. We ask for your patience and understanding and hope you have an enjoyable experience.
23.01.2022 Beautiful day here at North Bondi! Live shot courtesy of Patrol 9. All beach goers are adhering to social distancing but beach attendance is nearing capacity. Please plan ahead if you’re visiting the beach today.

22.01.2022 Ready Aye Ready It's a tough time right now for all of the members, associates and friends of the Club, and for the whole community for that matter. At times like these we need to bear in mind that when we strip everything away, the Club is not the Clubhouse, the bar, the gym, Nippers or the Sunday Surf Race- it's not any single activity or event. NBSLSC is YOU, everyone of you who make up a part of our great 115 year old institution so everyone needs to remember to keep in ...touch with their fellow club members at this time. We are all missing our weekly or daily Club interactions and the disruption to our ocean based routines, but we need to bear in mind that throughout the Club's very long history we have gone through two world wars- in the First World War 59 of our members enlisted and 11 were killed and 17 seriously wounded-in the Second World War 50% of our then members enlisted and ten were killed. Imagine the impact of that on the members of the time! Also, as the Club historians among us may know, the Clubhouse was totally destroyed by a fire in 1932 and had to be re-built from scratch. We also lived through the Black Sunday event were 5 swimmers tragically downed in a few brief moments. Whilst not in the same vein as these other tragedies we also managed to get by without a physical Clubhouse during the rebuild for two full seasons. The current situation is very distressing but like the other setbacks the Club has endured, we will quickly move on from this one and when we do the first beer poured from the tap in the Legends Room will be colder and more refreshing than any beer you have ever drank; the first Sunday Surf Race will be the most competitive race you ever experienced and you may even enjoy your next 6 hour patrol on a hot summer's day! Stay safe and stay positive Ready Aye Ready Andrew Christopher President
22.01.2022 Happy Easter, Passover, Long Weekend.... Wishing all of our members, associates and friends a relaxing and enjoyable time over the weekend. Some encouraging signs that the worse of the COVID 19 crisis may be over for us in Australia and life might return to something approaching normal in the not too distant future. Hope that everyone is staying healthy and doing the best they can. Keep the Club and your fellow Club members in your thoughts. Drop them a note or give them a ca...ll over the holiday weekend. 21.01.2022 Great news!! - the Promenade is now open and the ARLF is almost complete. More news to follow about this exciting development... Thanks to Mark Cotter, Peter Zieme and Danny Ekins who led the construction liaison with Waverley Council and Club oversight of the project. Andrew Christopher President
20.01.2022 MESSAGE TO MEMBERS, ASSOCIATES AND FRIENDS OF NBSLSC Over the past few days we have had to announce a number of very difficult and disappointing decisions, including postponing the iconic Stan Mac event, closing the gym, postponing the end of season Nippers Presentation and cancelling biathlons and surf races. The Australian Championships have also been cancelled bringing a premature and sad end to the competition season for our dedicated athletes. These decisions have not ...been made lightly and have been informed by advice from SLSA and the Health Authorities. We have also watched what other similar organisations and surf clubs are doing. Our actions are also taken in the context of NBSLSC being a LIFESAVING club and our core mission is to preserve lives and look after the public. This puts a heavy onus on us to set an example in the community in safeguarding public welfare. I understand that some of the restrictions and decisions will greatly disappoint some members and that gym use, Sunday surf races and other Club activities are very important parts of your daily lives- I know they are vitally important parts of my life. I also understand that members will have different views on the risks of certain activities and will have different tolerances to take on risks. As by now you will all know the basic premise behind the restrictions and measures being implemented is to reduce the frequency of non- essential social interactions. Whilst Club activities, such as surf races and gym visits are very important, they are non-essential and we need to play our part in reducing risk in the community. It is important that we find ways to stay connected with the Club and our fellow Club members in these difficult times. Whilst we need to observe the rules about social interaction, there are safe ways to keep in contact and to keep up your fitness regime and social interactions and I encourage you to adapt and to find ways do this. I also want to publicly thank our sponsors and supporters of the Club who have seen the benefits of their association with the Club temporarily affected. Lastly, the physical and mental health of our members is our number one priority and governs our decision making. I fully understand that disrupting life long habits such as early morning gym visits, Sunday surf races and afternoon drinks is causing many members to feel anxious, sad or despondent. We can ease these feelings by sharing our thoughts and speaking with those close to us. If any member is having difficulties they should reach out to those they trust. I am very happy to speak with any member about the decisions we have made and to hear your perspectives and thoughts. Stay safe and stay positive Ready Aye Ready Andrew Christopher President See more
20.01.2022 Dear Members and Associates The Board of Management has taken steps to manage the financial impact of the COVID 19 related disruption to the Clubs operations, including reducing our cleaning schedule to take account of the shutdown and reducing our power and utilities usage. We are also looking at other cost saving measures and exploring ways to use the shutdown period to undertake maintenance and upgrade aspects of the Clubs facilities and for our administration and office... team to undertake useful alternative activities. We will continue to manage the Clubs costs and resources in the most efficient way we can. The Board is also exploring safe and compliant ways of providing assistance to some of our older and more vulnerable members who are especially impacted by the shutdown of the Club and resulting lack of social interaction. We will update you shortly. Stay safe and stay positive Andrew Christopher President See more
20.01.2022 Great result Well done to everyone involved!
20.01.2022 Easing of beach restrictions Members and Associates, You would have noted from press reports that Waverley Council intends to permit limited access to the waters off Bondi Beach for exercise related purposes from next week. You will also know from press reports that we and the other local surf clubs have been consulting with the Council in relation to this issue over the last couple of weeks. It is very important that our members adhere to the rules which are to be put in pl...ace and set an example for the community or access may not continue. For now consistent with SLS and health authorities' guidance, and the approach of other Sydney Branch Surf Clubs, our Clubhouse remains closed. We will continue to monitor the situation as regards access to the craft shed and other areas of the Club over coming weeks and members will be notified of any change in position. 20.01.2022 Thanks to everyone involved in the gear inspection over the weekend. Its a big and important job.
18.01.2022 The 78th running of the Stan Mac Relay. Not even Covid can break the tradition of friendly competition between our clubs. Congratulations to Bondi on the win.
18.01.2022 http://surflifesavingsydney.com.au//Circular-48-Club-Closu I hope you all had a relaxing Anzac Day and took some time to think about the reasons we commemorate this day every year. It felt strange for a lot of us not to attend the North Bondi RSL dawn service this year which has become a major community event in recent years.... Also by way of important update please see attached Circular on beach use and Club closures from Sydney Branch. It is requiring a lot of patience and sacrifice from all of us to adhere to the beach and club restrictions, especially given the weather we have been having but Anzac Day is a good day to reflect and keep the disruption in perspective. North Bondi will continue to consult constructively with Council and SLS on the issue of beach and club closures. Please follow the rules and if you have constructive ideas and views please pass them on to me or another board member. Andrew Christopher President
17.01.2022 WENTWORTH COURIER (8 October) - Amalfi Beach Club: latest on Bondi private cabana plan (reprinted below for all NBSLSC member due to the original article being behind a paywall - Club President comments are featured in the article) Is a plan to offer a pay to sit section on Bondi Beach a lifeline for struggling businesses or a gross breach of the egalitarian nature of the iconic strip? 17.01.2022 Last night our club won Innovation of the Year at the SLSA National Awards of Excellance for the ADF Pilot Bronze Course! While many other clubs have serving and retired ADF members joining them, this course recognised their prior learning and skills and reduced the time commitment. The innovation award is given in recognition of any development of equipment, procedures, or other initiatives that will improve any facet of Surf Life Saving Australia. We'd firstly like to congr...atulate all other nominees for this award. Former North Bondi President Mark Cotter became aware of the issues ADF members faced transitioning from service to civilian life. Seeking advice from North Bondi RSL ( members James Isbell and James Brown) Vet Sports Australia and commissioned Officers at Victoria Barracks, and with a lot of help from SLSNSW (Steve Pearce in a particular) in restructuring the course the ADF Pilot Bronze Course was conceived and delivered. A special thanks to our Trainers Yon Golan, Michael Boland and Facilitator Ryan Tindall from Bronte, who collaborated to focus on identifying participants existing skill sets and emergency response techniques. The course was fast tracked as a result and participants quickly became rescue ready for the beach environment. The impact of the program has been extremely positive for each of the candidates, creating a sense of camaraderie and new networks outside of the ADF. It is envisaged this initiative will help suicide prevention within the veteran community by providing the missing link some ADF members face when leaving the service. We welcome all our new members. We also look forward working with the ADF and veteran organisations to run more courses like this. We also look forward to seeing other clubs adopt the same format and bringing many more skilled members of the ADF into SLS.
17.01.2022 A shed opening doesn't sound like a special event, but the Advanced Response Lifesaving Facility is no ordinary shed! Built with the support of Federal, State and Local governments and our own membership, it's a great addition to life saving and surf sports on Bondi Beach.
15.01.2022 Today is #internationalwomensday and were celebrating the contribution of the women who have been pivotal in making Surf Life Saving what it is today! This year marks 40 years of women's involvement in active lifesaving duties, however women played an integral role in surf life saving well before then. #EachforEqual #IWD2020 #womeninsurf
14.01.2022 Members and Associates, Thankfully its been a while since I needed to publish a post in relation to COVID-19, however given a few cases emerging close to the Club and within the Eastern Suburbs I feel it is important to remind everyone to continue to observe safe practices at all times when in the Club, the gym change rooms and all Club areas. We have a detailed and well considered COVID plan that everyone must abide with. If we observe any instances of non- compliance we will take action against the relevant member and there might be a need to increase levels of restriction. Please play your part in maintaining a safe environment. Thanks Andrew Christopher President
14.01.2022 Congratulations to all involved in this initiative
13.01.2022 Patrols Dear members. We have made the difficult decision to cease patrols today. This is consistent with the decision taken by some other Waverley Clubs. The primary reason for doing this is because it is not within the scope of volunteer lifesavers' duties to give effect to beach closure rules or restricted access and our members were being subjected to unfair stresses. We have consulted with the relevant bodies about this decision. Andrew Christopher President
12.01.2022 Tag your friends if you see them in this video! Thanks Grant McMah for throwing this together!
10.01.2022 Sunday Surf race competitors. Please tag yourself and friends for the history books!
10.01.2022 COVID 19 CHANGE ROOM USE AND CRAFT USE We need to adopt Government guidance in relation to the 4sqm rule for our change room use. This means no more than 10 persons using the men's change room at any one time and 8 for the women's. Also please adopt safe hygiene practices in the change room. Preferably use the change room only to lock up valuables and limit your time in the change rooms to the absolute minimum as they are high risk environments. For now this is self polici...ng but if members don't follow the practice we will close the change rooms. DON'T bring any non members into the change room under any circumstances. CRAFT USE Sharing craft is deemed a potentially hazardous practice so we strongly recommend not sharing rescue boards or other craft. If you do need to share rescue boards, wash them first. Please thoroughly wash down ALL craft, personal or club craft before and after use and before racking. FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE MADE AS ADVICE DEVELOPS STAY SAFE AND STAY POSITIVE Thanks Andrew Christopher President
10.01.2022 Congratulations Bondi on your Stan Mac win. Well done North Bondi on your courageous efforts. We fielded a great team with a home grown blend of youth and experience and you made all your members extremely proud. A great event and a great day for both clubs. Thanks to Stuart and Ashleigh MacDonald for your support of this ongoing iconic event.... Andrew Christopher President See more

10.01.2022 20 Years ago today! The arrival of the Olympic Flame by the North Bondi Surf Boat. Swept by Paul "Wingnuts" Cunningham and then carried by Jim Walker and Phil Coles. One of the truly great days at Bondi for the whole community, with members and friends ALL in attendance.
10.01.2022 PATROLS- FURTHER ACCESS AND USE RESTRICTIONS- We have advised Waverley Council and SLS that NBSLSC will NOT CONDUCT PATROLS whilst the full beach closures are in place. It is futile and contrary to the policy in place to provide patrols on what is meant to be an empty beach. It is also not within the scope of our patrollers' duties to enforce beach access restrictions. Waverley Council support our decision as does SLS. Rangers and the police will attend to these functions ...and the professional lifeguards will liaise with the Council about patrol services. If the situation changes and the beach closures are lifted we will review the position. From 9pm TODAY 23 March 2020 the YOUTH ROOM will be closed to all persons pending further notice. We have tried to minimise restrictions and take a staged approach but the latest announcements make this decision straightforward. It is impossible to monitor the safe and compliant use of the Youth Room which is shared by older and younger members and therefore is a high risk environment. We request that all members with personal items in the CHANGE ROOM room lockers that they may need in the short to medium term remove them as soon as practicable and preferably within the next 48 hours as we are likely to close the change rooms this week given all other areas of the Club are closed and the beach is closed pending further notice. We will continue to allow access to the CRAFT STORAGE shed and basement so members who wish to collect craft and use them in another location can do so. The other areas of the Club will be closed off, including the function rooms and common areas. Thank you for your support and understanding in these tough times. Things are fluid so stand by for further announcements. Stay Safe and Stay Positive Andrew Christopher President

05.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE FOR MEMBERS AND ASSOCIATES In accordance with NSW Government and SLS Guidance and the recent Sydney Branch Circular No. 52, the Clubhouse will remain closed pending further notice, save for the limited exceptions outlined below: The Youth Room will be open for Coffee Club Members between the hours of 8-11am from next Monday 18 May 2020. Nish will open and close the Youth Room outside these times. Social distancing must be maintained at all times and numbers st...rictly limited to ten people. Compliance will be monitored by Bob Boofa Johnson and Tony Hamilton along with Nish. Coffee Club Members will also have access to the single person bathroom in the youth room which will be on a regular cleaning regime. Please note that the Youth Room is not to be used as general change room or meeting place for swimmers and members. We are opening this to provide an opportunity for our more senior members to maintain much needed and long missed social contact. Access to the craft shed and basement will also resume from Monday 18th for those wishing to access their craft. Tag access will only be provided to the craft shed door, basement ramp and stairs to basement on the east side of the club. All other areas of the club will remain closed. Thanks for your support and continued patience. Andrew Christopher President
05.01.2022 Good morning members I am pleased to say we held our first Clubhouse members' Sunday drinks since the COVID shut down last night.
