24.01.2022 The former GPO is now a Fullerton Hotel and they offer free 2hr guided tours. Excellent value and very revealing. Ring to book.

23.01.2022 Terraces often just need a light touch..one here is on the way in Redfern

21.01.2022 There are many church conversions about. This one is aiming for instagram status. It is very well considered and detailed. When the garden grows it will provide a fine group of buildings in the rural setting- notwithstanding 850litres of Monument paint.

21.01.2022 A common problem. Unmaintained buildings where parts over sail public land. In this case adding verandah posts to the former Post Office & General store should not be a problem.

19.01.2022 A very unusual inter war period unit block in the spanish mediterranean style. The eave detail may not be the same period but just love the Rapunzel balconies. Needs a new roof.

17.01.2022 A very careful piece of stonework conservation by Jason. The former electrical hut built by Italian POWs at Cowra. Stabilizing the ruin to a more graceful state.

16.01.2022 Checking for historic evidence on an 1889 corner shop as residence in Alexandria...at dusk...ashlar rustications in the render. Our archive drawings show previous doors and shop windows...

16.01.2022 Where to store your artefacts...

15.01.2022 Monel shopfront framing in nickel finish in Trundle

15.01.2022 Freemasonry provides wonderful social and physical legacies. As with this gem in rural NSW, you get the Masonic temple in front and a community hall behind. A great asset and a very elegant landmark on a prominent street corner. Getting some careful maintenance and an access upgrade is very worthwhile.

15.01.2022 Inspiration is usually right there.

14.01.2022 If you go to Cowra for a staycation, visit the former POW camp site and the Japanese war graves. A set of very powerful places. Take a one hour walk around the huge piece of landscape which formed the camp and have the ruins speak.

10.01.2022 A contemporary installation of a steel palisade fence in the late Victorian style for a house of that period. The key is the use of the central bracing member to avoid the standard approach of brick piers at 2400mm centres. The desired objective is to show off the garden not the fence. Good work by the Wagga foundry.

10.01.2022 Another Church for sale. In Lucknow, just out of Orange. Suitable for adaptive re-use. Needs stonework conservation and a linked new pavilion for the modern conveniences.

09.01.2022 Always very disturbing signs: deflecting pressed metal soffit sheets on awnings. They overhang your footpaths. The awnings are often poorly drained, poorly supported by rusting rods insecurely fixed to parapets and prone to being sucked upwards by strong winds. If you own one...have it checked annually.

04.01.2022 A rare early brick stable with accommodation in Orange and due for some conservation.

03.01.2022 Ever noticed how clever these shopfronts were. The indented entrances gave extra shopfront space for merchandise. The extra spaces attracted your attention as you walked by in both directions. The second aspect is look at all the glass and no chunky aluminium to obstruct your views. All this is lost with flush modern shopfronts for the sake of 3m2 extra floor space. Look at that beautiful timber door set and brass or nickel hardware. It is the thought that counts.

01.01.2022 One of those cheap and cheerful actions from the 1970s was to clad facades. At least we often find that it is generally reversible. Hoping something similar to the details on the tower are behind waiting for rediscovery. At least next door is intact and Wyong is having a cafe led renaissance....
