02.01.2022 More amazing news for #northbridge #Repost @johncareyperth with @make_repost **NEW ROE STREET TO REVITALISE MAJOR NORTHBRIDGE CORRIDOR** Last night the new City of Perth Council approved the tender for a major upgrade of Roe Street in the heart of the Northbridge. It will make the area greener, more vibrant and safer for pedestrians and cyclists.... I strongly welcome this decision: it’s a major win and part of the joint State Government and City of Perth CBD Transport Plan (which is worth $105 million as part of the recent Perth City Deal). Cities around the world are redesigning streets to put people first: the more people walking, cycling and lingering (like alfresco dining), means more vibrant cities! It’s been a long time coming and supported by the local businesses in the area. The changes include: * Wider footpaths to accommodate increased pedestrian movement and activity, including alfresco dining; *Protected uni-directional cycle lanes to improve the safety of cyclists and pedestrians; *A narrower street corridor to encourage lower vehicle speeds and to make it easier for pedestrians to cross; *New street trees to provide shade, urban cooling and greenery; *New street lighting and CCTV to improve public safety and support the night-time economy; and; *New paving, and street furniture.
