12.01.2022 It will not come as a surprise, but it is still with a strong sense of sadness, that we are announcing the Allen Flying 11 Nationals scheduled for January will ...be postponed because of the ongoing COVID-19 driven challenges impacting our ability to put on a fair and safe regatta attracting all who wish to attend. Although thereare some promising signs which made it tempting to hang on and hope for a bit longer, the consensus amongst our members was that we should make the decision now and allow everyone to plan accordingly. The uncertainties surrounding the status ofboth theNSW Healthand QLD borderrestrictions over the coming weeksgave us little real choice. The plan is to move the regatta to the April school holidays. We aim to confirm new dates in early January after discussions withBelmont 16s, our race officials and volunteers. This year we will have our grand final at the end of the season instead of the middle and still expect it to be hotly contested. Entries already received will be carried over. Please contact the association [email protected] if changes are required. We would like to thank the team at Belmont 16s for their efforts to get us so close and for their flexibility in the circumstances. We are also lucky to have incredible support from our sponsors Allen Performance Sailing Hardware, Liros Ropes, Vaikoi and Composite Spars and Tubes. We wish all of our Flying 11 and the general sailing community a safe and Merry Christmas. Let’s knock this thing on its head now so we can enjoy the rest or our sailing season! 08.01.2022 IMPORTANT - Sailing Cancelled tomorrow, Sun 20th Dec - Please read the announcement by the Commodore https://mailchi.mp//stop-press-sailing-cancelled-tomorrow-

07.01.2022 **Weather Alert** Please check with your class captain in the morning re sailing .. Learn to Sail Level 2 - cancelled Sun 25th.. If you've kept an eye on the weather forecast you might have noticed that the likely wind strength tomorrow has been creeping higher and higher during the week.... It's now touching 30 knots, which is well above the limit at which we'd regard junior sailing to be safe, so I'm calling tomorrow's session off. Have a lie-in (or go back to sleep if you can). We'll add another Sunday morning session onto the course to compensate. To give you a sense of the forces involved, the kids have experienced maximum winds so far of roughly 15 knots, but the force on sails goes up as the square of the wind strength, so if they went out in 30 knots, they'd be feeling four times the pressure as their previous experience! 06.01.2022 NS14 Blog-O-Matic... Mmm. Mike was missing, Monty was missing Ollie and had daughter Alex, Myself was missing Anne and had ALTS Maggie, our Mal had Steph back (who wished she was missing a couple of Covid Kilos that were outstaying their welcome), and Tasar Mal was conducting stretch classes on the deck with Bea but taking no more patients for the day. Shame, as Myself was a bit stiff from too much desk work and, looking at the bump in my t-shirt, maybe hiding a couple of Cov...id Kilos also. Maz and Tony meanwhile were motoring around mulling over which marks to lay, settling on green. Rigging up Myself noticed Monty has a very tight Cunningham downhall - where his loosest position is equivalent to my tightest. Food for thought there. On the water a combined start and Myself did the rocket trick again, leading up the brisk first work until a misjudged wind shift gave Monty the advantage at the Spit, whereafter his lighter crew weight saw him slip away downwind and in a lighter wind retain the lead. Mal and Steph challenged but didn’t get scarily close and we all finished 15-20 seconds apart in that order, having somewhere left the Tasars behind. Watching start 2 we saw some lasers over the line being recalled. Be careful! Of course Myself then did the same thing on a biased start line so Patrick got to wave the OCS flag again. At least Myself had clear wind and quickly caught the fleet, but Mal wasn’t falling for any trickery as I tried to sail him into windward leg knocks and zealously remained between us the next Mark to hang on to second. Again the Tasars got overtaken somewhere. ALTS Maggie got a bit of a trial by fire, having forgotten most everything since we last sailed together, but did pretty well regardless and enjoyed it when we went fast. After the race I gave her the tiller to test her ALTS skills. I was promptly reminded of a haiku by Calvin Olsen: The skipper says tack Tiller pulled to my stomach The sail changes sides As all readers know, when tacking one pushes the tiller. I then saw parts of the boat from a perspective I haven't seen for a couple of years. At least it was a hot day. David Bentley

05.01.2022 Cheaper courses and membership .. The NSW government is continuing to support the cost of kids sporting activities with their Active Kids vouchers. Every school-enrolled child is entitled to two $100 vouchers (one valid from Jan 1st through to Dec 31st, the second July 1st through to Dec 31st) which can be used with a registered activity provider for registration, participation and membership costs for sport, fitness and active recreation activities.... NSC is one such provider, which means you can receive a $100 discount on your club membership if you use a voucher and a further $100 discount on any courses we run (you just cannot use both vouchers at the same time to get a $200 discount). Vouchers can be obtained from https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/active-kids and you'll need your Medicare card.
