25.01.2022 Man accused of alleged $1.5 million fraud - Coffs Harbour A man will face court today after allegedly defrauding three people of more than $1.5 million in Coffs Harbour. In January 2018, detectives from Coffs/Clarence Police District established Strike Force Reganza to investigate alleged fraudulent activity being conducted by a then 56-year-old man.... Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives attended a home in Mordue Street, Jesmond, about 12.25pm yesterday (Monday 10 May 2021), where they arrested a 59-year-old man. He was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with nine counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception. Police will allege the man coerced three men to invest in fraudulent business ventures, totalling $1,589,000 between February 2013 and December 2015. Police will further allege all these funds were utilised for personal use. He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Tuesday 11 May 2021).
25.01.2022 Missing man located - Ballina A man missing from the state’s north has been located safe and well. A 56-year-old man was reported missing by family members after he was last seen leaving his Ballina home on Thursday night (29 October 2020).... Following extensive inquiries, the man was located about 1pm yesterday (Monday 2 November 2020) in Ballina. Police would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance.
22.01.2022 *** PLEASE SHARE *** Appeal to find missing man in state's north Police are conducting a search and appealing for public assistance to help find a man missing in the state’s far north.... Brian Collins, aged 78, was last seen walking through a rural property near Lightning Ridge about 6.10pm today (Saturday 12 December 2020). Officers from Central North Police District commenced a search of the area, however, the man was not located. The search will continue tomorrow (Sunday 13 December 2020). Family and police hold concerns for Brian’s welfare as he suffers from a medical condition. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, of slim build, with grey hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with a white stripe and blue jeans. He was also carrying a bum-bag. Anyone with information about his whereabout is urged to contact police.
21.01.2022 Officer assaulted during Tweed Heads arrest An officer has allegedly been spat on, bitten and kicked while arresting a woman at Tweed Heads. About 6pm yesterday (Thursday 29 October 2020), police from Tweed/Byron Police District attended a home on Enid Street, Tweed Heads, following reports of a dispute between a man and a woman.... A 49-year-old woman was asked to leave the premises before she allegedly spat on the male Acting Inspector. A struggle ensued during which the woman allegedly bit the officer twice on the hand and kicked him in the groin and legs. The woman was subsequently arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station. She was charged with five offences, including three counts of assault police, assault police occasioning actual bodily harm and resist police. The woman was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today (Friday 30 October 2020). The officer sustained small lacerations to his hand.

19.01.2022 *** BREAKING NEWS *** TRUCK V CAR CRASH - PIMLICO Information has been received about a crash involving s B-double truck and a car along the Pacific Highway at Pimlico. At least one male, who was travelling in the car, is injured.... The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has been tasked to the location. Traffic has been affected in both directions. No further information is available at this time. __________ UPDATE Critical incident investigation underway following crash -Ballina A critical incident investigation has been declared after a police pursuit in the State’s north. Officers attached to Richmond Police District attempted to stop a vehicle on the Pacific Highway, Ballina about 7.35pm (Friday 7 May 2021) When the vehicle failed to stop a low-speed pursuit was initiated. A short time later the man’s vehicle and a truck were involved in a head on crash. The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition. The Pacific Highway is closed in both directions at West Ballina just south of the Bruxner Highway. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Motorists can use an alternative route via the Bruxner Highway, Casino-Coraki Road and Woodburn-Coraki Road, but will need to allow around 90 minutes extra travel time. Officers from Richmond Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) are attending the crash.
18.01.2022 Inquiries continue into pursuit - Tweed Heads Police have been involved in a high-speed pursuit with a stolen vehicle on the state’s Far North Coast. About 9am today (Friday 13 November 2020), Queensland Police performing border control duties on the NSW/Queensland border at Wharf Street, Tweed Heads, saw a black BMW SUV with Queensland registration.... As the SUV drove into NSW, Queensland Police advised their counterparts in NSW when checks revealed the vehicle was confirmed stolen. A short time later officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District saw the SUV in Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads, directed the driver to stop, who allegedly ignored the direction and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated when the vehicle was driven erratically at excessive speed. The SUV was last seen by NSW Police, travelling north along the Pacific Highway. Queensland border patrol police were notified. The vehicle continued through the border control at excessive speed. Thereafter, the vehicle was monitored by Queensland Police and was last reported heading toward Logan. Inquiries into this incident are continuing.

16.01.2022 Murder charge over 2013 death of Dennis Dalton near Lismore Detectives have extradited a man from Queensland and charged him with murder over the death of a man near Lismore in 2013. About 5.30am on Thursday 6 June 2013, 29-year-old Dennis Dalton was found at the front of his Goonellabah home with severe head injuries.... He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital before being transferred to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he died on Tuesday 25 June 2013. Detectives from Richmond Police District established Strike Force Headley to investigate the circumstances surrounding Dennis’ death. At a coronial inquest held last year, Deputy State Coroner Jeffrey Linden referred the matter to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Following further extensive inquiries, strike force detectives with the assistance of the Queensland Police Service Homicide Squad arrested a 39-year-old man at a home in Holmview, Queensland, about 40km south-east of Brisbane, at 7.40am on Tuesday (3 November 2020). He was taken to the Brisbane Watchhouse and charged by virtue of a court warrant with one count of murder. Strike force detectives travelled to Queensland where they applied for, and were granted, extradition to New South Wales at the Brisbane Magistrates court yesterday (Wednesday 4 November 2020). He was then taken to Lismore Police Station and formally charged with murder. Police will allege in court Mr Dalton and the 39-year-old were involved in a fight on nearby Churchwood Place in the early hours of Thursday 6 June 2013. The former Goonellabah man was refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today (Thursday 5 November 2020).

10.01.2022 Inquiries into critical incident continue - Ballina Police are appealing for witnesses after a critical incident was declared following a pursuit in the state’s north. About 7.35pm (Friday 7 May 2021), officers attached to Richmond Police District attempted to stop a vehicle on the Pacific Highway, Ballina.... When the vehicle failed to stop a pursuit was initiated but was terminated a short time later. The vehicle and a truck were then involved in a head on crash. The male driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in intensive care. A critical incident team from Coffs-Clarence Police District has commenced an investigation into all circumstances surrounding the incident. That investigation will be subject to independent review. As a part of their inquiries, police are urging anyone who may’ve witnessed the crash, or has dashcam footage from the area at the time, to contact detectives at Coffs Harbour Police Station or Crime Stoppers.

Michael Laracy, aged 56, was last seen leaving his home at Ballina about 10.30pm on Thursday (29 October 2020). Officers attached to Richmond Police District commenced inquiries to locate Mr Laracy when reported missing by family members yesterday (Friday 30 October 2020). He has not been seen or heard from since and concerns are held for his welfare. Mr Laracy is described as being of Caucasian appearance, of medium build, about 180cm tall, with white hair, beard and moustache. He is believed to wearing a polo t-shirt, shorts and black boots.

FLOODING LIKELY FOR THE MID NORTH COAST AND NORTHERN RIVERS A trough over the Coral Sea is deepening offshore of the southern Queensland coast. As this trough deepens, a low pressure system is expected to develop and move towards the southern Queensland coast later today and into Monday, before drifting south and weakening on Tuesday. This system is likely to bring significant rainfall, strong winds and large waves to the northern half of the coast until Tuesday. River flooding for Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers is expected as a result with river levels expected to rise further from Monday and Tuesday. High water levels due to spring tides are also forecast over the next few days, which adds to the risk of flooding in lower tidal areas. A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, has been issued for the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers. 06.01.2022 Man charged after stand-off - Tweed Heads A man has been charged following a police operation in the state’s north yesterday. Just before 4pm (Monday 9 November 2020), officers from Tweed/Byron Police District attended a unit on Buchan Avenue, Tweed Heads, after concerns were raised for the welfare of an occupant.... When police arrived, a man, armed with a knife, made verbal threats towards officers. A perimeter was established, with specialist resources attending to assist. About 10pm, police forced entry to the home and arrested the occupant, a 50-year-old man. He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with common assault (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic), destroy or damage property, and use offensive weapon to prevent police investigation. Police will allege in court that the man threatened and assaulted a 76-year-old woman, known to him earlier the same day. The man was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today (Tuesday 10 November 2020).
05.01.2022 RFS volunteer charged over allegedly deliberately lit fires - Far North Coast An RFS volunteer has been charged following an investigation into several alleged deliberately lit fires on the state’s far north coast. Detectives from Tweed/Byron Police District established Strike Force Epicentre with assistance from the State Crime Command Financial Crime Squad’s Arson Unit to investigate more than a dozen grass fires, believed to be deliberately lit, in the Burringbar and M...ooball areas between Wednesday 7 October 2020 and Tuesday (3 November 2020). Investigators have also been assisted by NSW RFS fire investigators. As part of their inquiries, police commenced an investigation of a suspicious grass fire near a property on Yarrabee Terrace at Stokers Siding, about 13km south-east of Murwillumbah, about 6.30pm on Tuesday (3 November 2020), which was reported to and extinguished by the NSW Rural Fire Service. Following extensive inquiries, about 7.50am yesterday (Wednesday 4 November 2020), police stopped a vehicle in Broadway Street, Burringbar, and arrested an 18-year-old man. A subsequent search warrant was executed at a Burringbar home where officers located and seized a replica pistol. He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with nine counts of intentionally cause fire and be reckless to its spread and one count of possess unauthorised pistol. Police will allege in court the man lit several blazes in the area before returning to respond to the fire as part of his duties as a volunteer. Investigations are ongoing. The NSW Rural Fire Service have immediately stood down the member.

03.01.2022 Pedestrian critical after struck by car near Coffs Harbour A man remains in a critical condition after he was struck by a car near Coffs Harbour overnight. About 1.20am (Thursday 12 November 2020), two men were walking northbound on The Pacific Highway, near the Sawtell Road off-ramp, Boambee East, when one of the pedestrians was hit by a white van.... The driver, a 44-year-old man, stopped and rendered assistance before emergency services attended. The pedestrian, an 18-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. The driver was also taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for mandatory testing. A crime scene was established which has been examined by forensic officers. As officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, they are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam vision, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The Pacific Highway was closed northbound for a short time, however, has since reopened.
01.01.2022 Driver caught more than six times the legal limit - North Coast A man has been charged after he was allegedly caught driving while more than six times the legal limit following a crash on the North Coast yesterday. About 3.30pm (Thursday 5 November 2020), emergency services responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash on the Tweed Coast Road, Casuarina, near Kingscliff.... Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District Area Command were told a white Toyota Hilux utility had allegedly crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and crashed into a blue Toyota Hilux utility being driven in the opposite direction. A third vehicle, a white Mercedes sedan, was also damaged by debris from the crash. Fortunately, no-one was injured as a result of the crash. Officers commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash and spoke with the driver of the white Hilux, a 36-year-old man from Tugun in Queensland. The man underwent a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis and allegedly returned a reading of 0.331, more than six and a half times the legal limit of 0.05. The man was charged with drive with high-range PCA, and not keep left of dividing line. He is due to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 23 November 2020. The man’s licence was also suspended.
