16.01.2022 Sapphire Community Co-Investment December '18 Roadshow -

16.01.2022 (uh oh...) ANNOUNCING THE BIRTH OF A NEW FB AUSTRALIAN ENERGY GROUP After much gnashing of teeth and some handholding, I have decided to launch another group that is intended to slot in between My Efficient Electric Home and NEM Watchthat is, in the midscale space the energy industry has come to call aggregated distributed energy resources or DER: bigger than individual households but smaller than grid scale stuff. To avoid confusion, the full name is Local Energy (aka dist...ributed energy resources) but you should be able to find it by searching for Local energyor click on https://www.facebook.com/groups/localenergy/. Below is the info from the About section of the group's homepage. As you can see, it's a nascent but burgeoning field. Please join, and be part of its evolution. You'll be so glad you did. Thanks Mark About An Australia-based group about the transformation of our energy system from the old centralised, one way model to a two way system in which households, small businesses and communities take control of their energy supply as well as demand, by generating, storing and trading renewable energy. This group is an initiative of the Total Environment Centre (www.tec.org.au), which has been active in Australian energy market reform since 2004 to improve environmental outcomes. The administrator is Mark Byrne, who has been TEC's Energy market advocate since 2012. The content of posts does not necessarily reflect the views of TEC (but please see the group rules). Local energy (what energy insiders call distributed energy resources or DER) could cover microgrids virtual power plants (VPPs) peer to peer (P2P) energy trading solar gardens and other community energy projects community scale batteries electric vehicles with vehicle to grid or home (V2G/H) capability demand management/response programs ... and a whole lot more. The group will host posts covering policy advocacy, regulatory reform and tech issues. Taking for granted the role of local energy in responding to the climate crisis, the group could have a focus on a few related issues: energy equity - that is, how people without their own solar, batteries etc can still benefit from the local energy transition costs and benefits - how to recognise and monetise the value of local energy, but also who should pay, and how, where there are costs involved energy citizens - reframing participation in the energy system from the idea of passive consumers to active citizens; and energy as part of the body politic rather than a matter of keeping the lights on when and how local energy this Is a better solution then centralised generation, storage and trading (and when it isn't) resilience - how local energy can help build a system that is not just low or zero net carbon emissions, but also capable of withstanding the impacts of increasingly frequent and intense severe weather events.
