17.01.2022 Around the country and around the world, communities are taking measures to help promote good health and limit the impacts of the coronavirus. Darebin Council i...s doing that too. The safety of our community and staff is our top priority. In keeping with this, today we have made the decision to close some of our community venues and services until further notice. From 12pm today, Darebin City Council will close the following venues to the public. - Customer service counters (the 8470 8888 phone service will continue to operate) - Reservoir Leisure Centre - Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre (in conjunction with the YMCA, which manages this facility) - All Darebin Libraries - The Hub (Northland) - Decibels Youth Music Centre - Community Hubs - Bundoora Homestead - Bundoora Farm - Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre - Darebin Arts Centre - Preston Shire Hall - Preston City Hall - Community rooms - Yanada House - Senior Citizens Centres - All FUSE events based at our venues will also be cancelled or postponed. Essential services such as waste collection and meal delivery to elderly residents are continuing as normal. While our libraries are closed, due dates for borrowed items will be extended and no late fines will be charged. You can continue to check for service updates on our website or on our social media channels and can continue to call 8470 8888 to speak with a Darebin Customer Service representative. Please also continue to visit the Department of Health and Human Services website www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus for the latest advice and information about coronavirus from the lead authorities. We hope our community understands these decisions are not taken lightly, but we have made them knowing now is the time to look after ourselves and each other as we work together across the community to promote good health, patience and compassion, and lessen the impact of coronavirus. Please continue to take good care of yourselves and those around you.

10.01.2022 Last Friday, the Australia Council for the Arts announced the outcomes of its four year funding program. This funding, from 2021 to 2024, is a critical base of ...support for small to medium arts organisations, enabling investment in ambitious, new work that shapes our cultural landscape. In this very challenging environment, not all organisations who applied were able to be funded. We are very sorry to see many valued friends and partners lose their funding at this critical time, and add our voice to the calls for additional government support for the arts. The creative industries are an interconnected, dynamic system of cultural production and consumption. If we weaken its parts, we weaken the whole. Our industry contributes more than $111 billion to the Australian economy each year, but perhaps more importantly, it is keeping each and every one of us healthy, connected and inspired as we go through this unprecedented crisis. Now is the time to invest in creatives, whose work is fundamental to the human condition. MAV has been one of the fortunate ones to secure four year funding. We offer our deep gratitude to the Australia Council for their support of an ambitious and transformational plan to put diversity at the heart of our sector, by backing the leadership and self-determination of creatives of colour. We are committed to using this funding as a response to the forces of bigotry and intolerance, which seek to undermine our hard-fought battle for pluralism. https://www.multiculturalarts.com.au//mav-response-austra/
