25.01.2022 Bikes on public buses? What a great idea!
25.01.2022 Social distancing, exercise, getting outdoors as a family ... this could happen here as well. We need the North East Recreation Trail.
24.01.2022 Another rail trail is full steam ahead in Qld. it makes interesting reading - each $1 of investment to build the project is expected to produce $5 in economic development for the region. That is a pretty good return! And it makes our North East Rec Trail a bargain, being millions cheaper.
22.01.2022 This could also happen here in the North East. Tumbumba, in the NSW Highlands, just got a rail trail and already the schools are jumping on board. Great stuff!
21.01.2022 The federal government is giving $7.5 million to this great rail trail project in NSW. The North East just needs about $.1.5 million (a fraction of the NSW funding) to build our fantastic trail. And this comes at a time when the North East desperately needs more jobs and safe ways to exercise.
20.01.2022 We are still working on making the recreation trail a reality. Despite now having $1.47 million in federal funding, it could be some time before we have more significant information to share. But we will let you know as soon as we can!
19.01.2022 Fantastic news!!!!!!
09.01.2022 This Victorian rail trail is doing really well. Let's make it happen here, too.
07.01.2022 So when will the Rec Trail open? It is fantastic to hear today's news of a $1.47 million Federal Government grant so the North East Recreation Trail can be built. Many thanks to Bass MHR Bridget Archer and Deputy Prime Minister (and infrastructure, transport and regional development minister) Michael McCormack for the announcement. Bridget told us a little while ago she was working hard on it, and she is true to her word. So when will the trail open? Hopefully soon, but we d...on't have an actual date. Dorset Council should lodge a development application for the project, giving a chance to comment. It will be assessed by an independent body. There are also a few bits the state government has to consider. Then the project can be built on the vacant public land corridor that was formerly the North East railway. Residents and visitors can walk or ride little sections or go all the way from Lilydale through Scottsdale to Billycock Hill. Bring it on! See more
07.01.2022 Bass Liberal MHR Bridget Archer knows a winner when she sees one. Here is an article supporting the recreation trail. It is in her Bass Bulletin (Budget 2020 edition) newspaper, an electorate-wide communicatiuon.
05.01.2022 Looking forward to this happening in the North East. And the scenery/environment is more spectacular here than in Qld.
01.01.2022 The idea is good but execution maybe not so good. Amtrack in the US is encouraging bikes on trains. But the system seems a bit clunky. Only two bikes per departure (but capacity will expand), pay $20, take off the front wheel and all gear and arrive 30 min before depature. We need a convenient, efficient public bus or trailer transport system to get bikes from Launceston to Lilydale when our rail trail opens. We will work on that.
01.01.2022 This one looks like fun in the Sunshine State ...
01.01.2022 This NSW rail trail proposal promises big bikkies for its community. That state is finally getting on board with the rail trail concept. Let's hope it happens here soon!
