25.01.2022 Two calls regarding Eastern Brown Snakes this afternoon, one in Euroa which relocated itself. The other in Benalla which gave the homeowner a surprise when he went to check his mailbox, only to find a 1.2m Eastern Brown Snake curled up enjoying some sun near his water meter, if you use an old tyre as a water meter cover just beware when lifting it. The snake was quickly caught and relocated away from residential areas.

25.01.2022 I reckon that I have covered enough issues for one post, with this one. If you find a Snake that needs to be relocated or you need advice about a reptile you have found call me on 0448 805 608.

24.01.2022 A lucky escape for this Eastern Brown Snake in Mansfield this afternoon. It was initially found in the vege garden by the homeowners dog. Upon arrival I discovered that the snake was in fact caught in netting but was uninjured just very frightened.... After pinning it I used my Specialist Netting Cutter to extricated the snake, after a check over, it was relocated in natural habitat away from dogs or netting.

24.01.2022 Check your water bowls for wildlife. Stay safe and keep hydrated.

23.01.2022 Beautiful morning for a drive up to Oxley after a request for assistance regarding a Tiger Snake in a garage. After a thorough search and pulling everything out of a steel cupboard, no Tiger Snake was found, however I did find a very cold Blue Tongue Lizard which was relocated to a nice sunny spot in the garden. Given the close proximity to the King River I will most likely be going back that way at some point in the not too distant future.

23.01.2022 The Australian Wildlife Society's Snip Rings for Wildlife Campaign is encouraging everyone to cut through plastic rings, rubber bands and hair ties before dispo...sing of them to help protect our amazing wildlife. Each year, thousands of birds and air-breathing aquatic wildlife such as platypus, turtles and water dragons obtain significant injuries and often die horrific deaths from discarded litter. Wildlife often become entangled in plastic rings, rubber bands and hair ties that wrap around their beak or muzzle, preventing them from eating or strangling them. These items can also tangle up their feet, wings, or fins, limiting their movement. You can help promote the campaign by uploading a picture or video of yourself snipping through a plastic ring, rubber band or hair tie before disposing of it. Do not forget to use the hashtag #snipringsforwildlife. : Turtle - Marcus Eriksen Water Dragon - WIRES Northern Rivers

22.01.2022 WHEN NOT TO INTERFERE Please check out what a fledgling looks like. They are on the ground at this size for a very good reason. As the Cocky’s are ground fe...eders, mum will be teaching young how to forage and gain independence. Birds generally do not fledge(fly) straight after leaving nest. Mum/dad are watching from afar. Please refrain from picking up young birds because they do not run away from u or can’t fly. This process of fledgling to Juvenile takes sometime. We all need L plates for a while. If you notice trauma such as inability to stand, wing dropped, heat exhaustion, obvious signs of injury, then contact your local wildlife shelter. @n.e.v.a.a

22.01.2022 3 calls this afternoon all regarding Eastern Brown Snakes, 1 in Swanpool, 1 in Wangaratta and 1 in Benalla. All 3 snakes ultimately proved what we as Snake Catchers often tell people...... " most snakes are just passing through and will quite often move on if not harassed or distracted". All 3 snakes self relocated.... My fourth call was for a Local Business Client who had a Lace Monitor checking out the area. "Is this something you deal with?" was the question. "Absolutely" was the reply. BUT given the location and size of the site, my recommendation was simply to enjoy having this fantastic specimen around, Lace Monitor happily left undisturbed and my client educated about these fantastic lizards.

21.01.2022 It really helps us ( Snake Catchers ) if we get the whole story. After a request for help regarding a Large Eastern Brown Snake at Avenel Transfer Station today, I headed down to Avenel straight away only to be informed on arrival that the snake was last seen on Sunday....... A thorough inspection failed to find any snakes today.

19.01.2022 A great project for the whole family, get the FrogID App and get involved in FrogID Week.

18.01.2022 Just a reminder to keep your eyes open, watch where you're walking, avoid walking close to clumping grass type plants. With the weather forecast in the North East Region of Victoria this week, snakes will be on the move. Remember on a hot day they will shelter during the hottest part of the day and become active again around dusk when their prey becomes active.... If you find a snake that needs to be relocated, call me on 0448 805 608, keep eyes on it from a safe distance, keep people and animals away, do not harass or disturb it.

17.01.2022 Had a call from a homeowner in Oxley again this afternoon, the Tiger Snake not found from Monday was sunning itself in the backyard. It was watched until I arrived, so it was easy to locate, hiding in a hole in the old backfilled septic tank and with a bit of excavation this lovely specimen was removed and has now been released away from residential areas. The key to success was that the homeowner watched the snake from a safe distance until I arrived.

16.01.2022 "I have a Large Brown Snake out the front of my house in Wangaratta" Hmmmmm, Out the front of the house..........correct Large Eastern Brown Snake.........yep, ok... Let's just say, if the snake has clearly been run over numerous times, is VERY deceased and is emitting a VERY pungent aroma, there is no need for a Snake Catcher. Great opportunity for Public Relations though.........."glass half full approach"

16.01.2022 Since the start of the recent hot weather snakes have been found in houses and sheds seeking shelter from the heat, behind wall linings in sheds, under fridges and washing machines. Be aware when rummaging around in your shed especially, check under your mower and inside your grass catcher before use. If you find a snake in your house, shed or shop keep a safe distance, keep pets and people away, keep eyes on it until I arrive.

11.01.2022 I have had a few instances recently where people have considered "being a hero" with a shovel or a rake. So, I thought that I would share this........

10.01.2022 An Avenel Homeowner had a snake in their pool early this morning which drowned by the time a Snake Catcher finally arrived. If you live in Strathbogie Shire and need a snake relocated or advice about any reptiles you have encountered please call me on 0448 805 608, I am available 24hours a day.

09.01.2022 This is a great presentation by Graham from Turtles Australia about all things Freshwater Turtles of Victoria.

09.01.2022 Received a call from a Bundalong resident regarding an Eastern Brown Snake near their pool. Some excavating along the sleeper and the 700 mm long snake was caught and subsequently relocated away from the residential area. Yet again keeping eyes on the snake and not disturbing it until I arrived ensured the snake was able to be relocated.

09.01.2022 My first phone call this morning went something like this: "Hi Jeff, it's Erin at Winton, the Echidna at my place has got into the laundry and has started to dig in". So it was off to Winton to check out what this cheeky critter was up to this time.... Fortunately, easy digging meant it wasn't long before my spikey friend and I were getting reacquainted face to face. Now happily released away from the laundry and the house.

09.01.2022 I got a call at lunchtime from a homeowner in Yackandandah thanks to a referral from Sue at Beechworth Wildlife Stays regarding a Large Red Bellied Black Snake on the roof of a house. As no Local Licenced Wildlife Controllers were available, I took a drive up to assist. The snake had entered the roof area in search of sparrows which had been nesting previously.... If you have or have had birds nesting in your roof space and you were wondering if snakes can climb, here's the answer.

08.01.2022 I took delivery of a parcel from my friends at Pestrol on Friday. Watch out for an anouncement later this week about a new offering on my Service List.

07.01.2022 Another busy day....... Eastern Brown Snake in a Nagambie backyard which evidently "was just passing". Brushtail Possum(s) in a roof as well as on a roof in Violet Town.... Eastern Brown Snake in a Chook Shed in Yea, homeowner did a textbook job of observing and not disturbing the snake until I arrived. Caught and relocated in suitable habitat away from human habitation. Eastern Brown Snake in a garden in Benalla, snake was disturbed by the gardener and made a hasty exit.

05.01.2022 I am rescuing, relocating, finding more Blue Tongue Lizards this year than I have in a long time. Just bear in mind, the oh so popular line of: " I won't have a snake in my yard because Blue Tongue Lizards keep snakes away" is a MYTH which has been busted many times over. These beautiful lizards do not belong in backyards or frontyards either, they belong in their natural habitat away from cars, trucks, dogs, cats and lawnmowers.... If you find a Blue Tongue Lizard which needs to be relocated for its own safety give me a call on 0448 805 608.

04.01.2022 Early start this morning giving a Snake Awareness Presentation to the team at Winton Solar Farm.

03.01.2022 On my way back from Yackandandah yesterday afternoon, I rescued this beautiful Blotched Blue Tongue Lizard from the middle of the road. I was thrilled because I hadn't seen one in the wild since I lived near Cooma, NSW over 20 years ago. Keep your eyes open while driving these guys only have short legs and can't get off the road real quick.

02.01.2022 Drove down to Euroa this afternoon regarding a Red Bellied Black Snake in the front yard of a Farm House, to my surprise and amusement, I was greeted with this sign at the gateway to the House Paddock. To the homeowners credit if the snake wasn't close to the house, then they would have just let it go about its business. Just as I arrived the snake vacated the garden area and self relocated back to the nearby dam.

02.01.2022 With snake sightings and activity ramping up and COVID-19 Restrictions lifting even more in Victoria. A reminder courtesy of Queensland Health about Snake Bite First Aid.

02.01.2022 And the answer to my earlier "what is it" post. As correctly identified by most people...... Lace Monitor aka Goanna.... These are a ripper lizard but should not be dealt with by anyone without experience. Sharp teeth Sharp claws Whip like tail Whilst we are commonly known as Snake Catchers we actually deal with ALL Indigenous Reptiles.

01.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who entered. Congratulations Lindy Dunstan Bright.
