25.01.2022 A great way to have our athletes delivering 25 of their best push-ups at training

25.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/VisionPodcast/videos/762005037702348 Podcast with Jacqueline, an athlete who when in Australia trains with the Northern Fast Trak Squad at Salisbury

24.01.2022 Good luck to Northern Fast Trak Squad athlete Jacqueline who has just arrived back in North Carolina to start up another semester of study and training on the track for University of Mount Olive Track & Field. Her focus will likely be 200m & 400m, plus a bit of high jump. Was great to have her training with the squad since May, bringing some drills and tips that she picked up from the US. The squad are probably pleased she has gone 'cos she had a fair 'Ab' focus :)

24.01.2022 Northern Fast Trak Squad is proud to announce squad member Emma Cotgrove was selected in and is currently participating in the Athletics SA Emerging Athlete Program. Her selection came due to her 2019/2020 performances in Javelin. Emma, when still 16 years old, achieved a Personal Best throw of 44.78m with a 500gm javelin at the Australian Combined Event championships held in Brisbane in February. Emma also had great success at the South Australian State Championships in winn...ing the U18 Women Javelin gold medal with a throw of 42.58m with the 500gm javelin. She also finished second to Salumi Robberts in the Open women’s Javelin with a throw of 41.03m using the 600gm javelin. Emma had a great season and thoroughly deserved her success with her attitude to competition and attention to training and this has been recognised by her selection into the program. The emerging athlete program is a uniquely South Australian program focusing on high performing athletes between 17 and 23 years of age. These athletes are currently bridging the gap between Athletics Australia’s Junior High Performance program and current SASI/NASS scholarships. It is centred around long-term athlete development and support and enables Emma and Adrian, her coach, access to services which can improve their current practices. The program requires both Emma’s and coach Adrian’s engagement. The program is offering both training and education to support Emma and Adrian to attain the necessary learning opportunities to fully understand the demands of her event and improve her performance to international level. The following four key areas for High Performing Athletes are addressed: Physical by providing Emma with medical health and physical movement assessments, access to the SASI gym, and a personal strength program overseen by a SASI strength and condition coach Technical by providing Emma and Adrian with access to high performance coaches throughout Adelaide and interstate Tactical by offering advice on travel and competition Mental by providing Emma with access to sports psychologists, expert coaches and experienced athletes The Emerging Athlete Program is supported by the South Australian Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing and is funded and facilitated by Athletics SA. It engages a range of service providers to ensure that the Emma has access to the leading edge of sports knowledge, facilities and technology at a minimal charge. This is an exciting time for Emma and Adrian.... Northern Fast Trak Squad support them both in their efforts to achieve their athletics goals.

22.01.2022 Introduction to one of Northern Fast Trak Squad's coaches... John Rich - Coaching Profile 2020 - Athletics Australia Accredited Athletics Coach... - Co-founder of Northern Fast Trak Squad based out of Salisbury, South Australia Qualifications: - Athletics Australia - Level 2 Advanced Sprints, Hurdles & Relays - Athletics Australia - Level 2 Intermediate Club Coach Experience: - Athlete and coach for 30 years - Focuses on the Sprints, Hurdles and Relays, but many years of experience allows John to cover other events as well. - Coached athletes from a wide range of Little Athletics Centres and also athletes from a range of senior athletics clubs in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. Talking coaching with John When did you start coaching? I started coaching at Ingle Farm Little Athletics Club because my son joined. Why did this make you want to coach? This brought back memories of my interest in athletics when I was about 10 years old. I used to go to a Track in London (White City) and watch the sprinters, they fascinated me. I started High Jump and was good at it, no flop in those days just the Western Roll or the Straddle. No landing on a bag just a hard sand pit. What are your coaching highlights? Highlights for me as a coach at Little Aths was getting under 12's in those days to the nationals. I was so proud of my son making it and coming home with a Silver medal for High Jump. Any recent coaching highlights you would like to mention? The coaching group which is now Northern Fast Trak Squad being able to develop athletes year in and year out that win huge numbers of medals at both the State Little Athletics Championships and the Athletics SA State Championships, and then these athletes being able to lift their own personal performances to a new level when they venture to the Nationals. What makes you remain passionate about coaching after all of these years? Now it's all about improving youngsters, and seniors to their maximum potential. It so pleasing to take an un-coordinated raw athlete and make them into something they dreamed of. It’s fantastic to see how excited they get when a PB or a record is broken or they have a dramatic improvement. What underpins your coaching philosophy? My coaching philosophy is built around me being passionate about coaching and passing on my knowledge. This helps to build character, confidence and a sense of accomplishment in a structured environment. It also brings them out of shyness which builds communication skills which will help prepare them for life. Can you tell us a little more about your coaching qualifications? I am an IAAF Level 5 accredited coach in the Multi-event discipline. I also have level 4 qualification in ‘Coaching the Young Athlete’ which also covers multiple events and is particularly directed at bringing athletes from the children’s sport to the senior environment. What are some of your coaching highlights? I have been the South Australian State Field Coach for Little Athletics five times. I have also coached many athletes to win medals at the national level during my 30 plus years coaching in many different events. After so many years involved in athletics, what makes you keep at it? My goals are to have as many athletes as possible compete at the national level, whilst at the same time making it fun for all involved. Being able to consistently achieve these goals keeps me engaged. What is your coaching philosophy? My coaching philosophy is for each athlete to be as successful as they possibly can be. 15.01.2022 The 6PM Wednesday Fast Trak athletes getting it done on a cold, wet and windy night at Rundle Reserve, Salisbury. We managed to still get 100% of the scheduled program done both on the track and in the gym despite the conditions that were thrown at us :)

15.01.2022 Day One of the South Australian State All Schools competition was held today. The Northern Fast Trak Squad athletes were prominent in the heat of battle, as well as on the podium. I have attached some photos from the squad's athletes on the day. My count says we had about 18 of our athletes in action (apologies for any I have missed). There were other athletes out that train as part of associated throws squads and we also offered our support to athletes from Trinity College ...at the track today. If your name was Chelsea or Ayden it is apparent that the photographers liked you, lots of snaps :) The photos show the wide range of events our guys compete in across all event groups. Today brought many podiums for the squad and the top of the podium and State All Schools champions in Sprints, Hurdles, High Jump and Long Jump events. The athletes out today were Chelsea B, Madeline B, Aleisha, Kiara, Bronwyn, Kyle, Liam J, Chelsea F, Jasmine, Tatum, Joseph, Josh, Emma, Ayden, Obinna, Logoh, Jess & Mia. Many are back out again tomorrow to round out their events... good luck to all :) See more

15.01.2022 Improvisation for the Fast Trak Squad this week. The tough Covid restrictions meant we had to head to public spaces to keep our athletes running fast and in good shape, no club based activities or premises allowed at all for 14 days. 4 sessions for the week two at Carisbrooke which was a picturesque change of scenery, and the other two at Gawler. Hoping we can get back to Rundle Reserve by next Tuesday.

15.01.2022 Was a bit fast with the photos, here are some more provided with courtesy from Athletics SA

11.01.2022 Day 2 of the South Australian VIVA All Schools State Championships today was again successful for the Northern Fast Trak Squad's athletes and coaches. Big range of events covered again ranging from Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Long Hurdles, Hammer, Javelin, 200m & 800m. Adrian & Dennis also supported other athletes from outside the squad in events today, mostly in the javelin, triple jump and sprints. It was fantastic to be able to assist athletes out of the throws squads, other ...club athletes and also athletes from the local schools and colleges. Particularly Northern Districts Athletics Club & Trinity College who provide our squad's training facilities :) My quick count had 13 squad athletes out today with a couple of firsts, about 8 second places and numerous personal bests, club records and of course, junior national qualifiers. Some of the athletes we provided assistance to from outside the squad also medalled, with one taking a meet record home with her. 01.01.2022 TTP squad members 2020 Northern Fast Trak Squad have six of our athletes taking part in the Target Talent Program which has been running throughout the winter months of 2020. They are certainly learning about the different components that assist in becoming and sustaining success as an athlete. We congratulate Emma Cotgrove, Chelsea Friedrich, Liam Jones, Madeline Bennett, Tatum Giles and Aleisha Coolen on their acceptance into the highest tier of the SA Talent Academy, the T...arget Talent Program run by Athletics SA. It is the early identification element of the Athletics Australia High Performance Department. The aim of the program is to encourage and develop the best young athletes around the country, by providing them with an opportunity to train with other talented athletes, learn from professionals and to interact with their personal coach and other TTP personal coaches in a training environment. Both Chelsea and Liam have been selected on their performances in the High Jump. Emma has been selected for Javelin despite her focus on the combined event competition last season. All won gold medals in their respective age groups at the State Championships back in February 2020. Emma, Chelsea and Liam are coached by Adrian Pounsett, a Fast Trak Squad coach, who was selected to Coach the High Jump event at this years TTP coaching sessions. Coincidence? We don’t think so. Madeline was selected to participate in the TTP program in both the Discus and the Hammer, whilst Tatum is the high flyer, being chosen in the Pole Vault. Whilst Northern Fast Trak coaches aren't the specialist event coaches for these particular events for Madeline and Tatum, the coaches have had a significant impact with their conditioning training which progresses the athletes both physically and mentally, developing the athletes as a whole. This is always a huge focus for the coaches to continuously develop our athletes at Northern Fast Trak which contributes to the progression in their performances. Many athletes in the Fast Trak squad are talented and high performers and we expect to see more of them involved with TTP in the future. We also expect more of our squad coaches to become involved as the talent in the training squad get more recognition. Great work athletes & coaches :) See more
