22.01.2022 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER Donna Our Volunteer of the month for October is someone who is always ready to lend a helping hand. Donna is a valued member of our team and has found a variety of ways to continue supporting NRAS as we expand and navigate the effects of Covid 19.... Role at NRAS - Up until Covid hit I worked in the office and helped out at our adoption days, but now that we are unable to host adoption days, I’ve branched out into NRAS uber driving, helping source and purchase cat food for all of the cats in care and also helping organise the roster for the NRAS cat cottage. What do you love about being part of the NRAS family? - I love that I can help the animals and be a part of an organisation that does such great work in the community. Dog or cat person? - I’ve always been a dog person but since volunteering at the cat cottage I’m developing a real soft spot for the kitty cats. I have had the opportunity to spend some time with some gorgeous cats and kittens who have won me over. Do you have any pets of your own? - Yes, I have two dogs. Oscar the Cavalier King Charles and Penny the nightmare Dash hound. Penny has a bit of an attitude problem when it comes to other dogs, but she gets along well with her brother. Hobbies and interests - I love to sew and do quilting. I have a little business making baby items and clothes so that keeps me busy. I also volunteer at the Ballina Visitor Centre. Favourite food - Cake!

20.01.2022 This weeks Pet of the Weeks is the gorgeous Scooby. Scooby is a very lovable young pure bred Mastiff boy who would thoroughly enjoy a new home with devoted owners. He is eager to please and very trainable. His lead walking is definitely improving, he has tremendous potential and would enjoy further training. Scooby is dog friendly, but would probably be best living as the only dog as he tends to like to be the boss dog in the home. He has met with cats, chickens and even a... rabbit, and although interested wasn’t aggressive. Scooby is house trained and he loves to be with people. Scooby is a large dog, nearly two years old and is very cuddly with his humans. Such a handsome boy with a beautiful temperament. All animals adopted through NRAS go on a two week trial. 19.01.2022 NRAS Pet of the Week Frankie is a live wire of a cat with masses of personality. He loves spending time with his people, either playing games with his toys, doing zoomies around the house or cuddled up in a warm lap. Frankie is a very affectionate cat whose personality matches his striking good looks. With his blue eyes and choc/caramel tabby stripes, he's a real head turner! He never stops purring and gives the best head bumps. This special 3 year old boy would suit a home w...here he is going to get plenty of attention and affection as he's got plenty of both to give in return. Frankie currently sleeps on the end of his foster carers' bed in a little ball and doesn't disturb them during the night. NRAS offer a two week trial to allow people and animals to get to know each other in the home environment. All animals are vet checked, desexed, microchipped and flea and worm treated before going to their new homes. 19.01.2022 It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, and our favourite boof head and former (long term) shelter resident BARNEY came in to say ‘hi’ and spread the Christmas cheer. As if it wasn’t enough to see Barney and his mum looking so happy and content, they also brought a Santa sack full of dog products to donate to the shelter!! There’s no greater gift than seeing our animals safe and loved. ... Merry christmas to Barney all the boof heads out there.
17.01.2022 What does a cat with FIV look like? THIS.......... Adorable, affectionate ginger perfection.... Meet Oscar, a sweet and cuddly 3 year old boy with the cutest little meow. He loves pats and head scratches and is looking for a loving home where he'd enjoy being a solo cat. Oscar came to us through the pound where he stood out as a charmer who deserved a second chance. Being a male with a few war wounds and knowing he had been out and about we immediately had him tested for feline immunodeficiency virus. Now that we know Oscar is FIV positive we're on mission to find someone special who understands that FIV cats can lead long, happy and healthy lives and are just as deserving of love. So if you look at Oscars picture and think, "what a cutie" please give us a call or do some googling to find out more about Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and come and meet Oscar. He gives the best cuddles, and he needs you! 12.01.2022 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER Our volunteer for the month of September is one of our op shop angels who always brings a smile and is a magician with the steam iron. Vicki, better known as Gypsy joined NRAS approximately one year ago when she found herself with a little time to spare and an urge give back. Being a lifelong animal lover Gypsy found the right fit with us and we’ve loved every minute! Role at NRAS Op shop volunteer/ Grand Master of the garment steamer... What do you love about being part of the NRAS family I love being able to give back and have a bit of fun and a giggle with the girls while we work. I also love it when people come into the shop with their fur babies and I can meet them and give them a pat. Cat or dog person Both. We’ve always lived on the land and had cats and dogs, as well as rescuing wildlife. We had a brief period after our dogs passed without a pet, but there was a big gap so we adopted our now 14 year old cat Indy from the RSPCA. She’s more dog than cat, and goes everywhere with us. Road trips, pet friendly camping, even sailing the East Coast of Australia for 3 months! She’s definitely a one of a kind. Tell us a bit more about Indy Well, she’s always locked inside at night because we’re conscious of the wildlife. When we have taken in sick or injured wildlife Indy is amazing, she knows not to touch them. Even Cookie the Kookaburra liked Indy. She’s really just like a dog. She comes when she’s called and follows instructions. She rides in the car in a basket. I don’t think we’d ever find another cat like Indy. Hobbies and interests I’m an outdoors person. I love to garden, bush walk and camp. Favourite food A good old-fashioned steak sanga! Thank you Gypsy

08.01.2022 NRAS Pet of the Week Digby is a delightful 2 year old small (15 kg) staffie cross kelpie who loves life, people, kids and especially other dogs. He can sit, drop and shake hands. Digby plays fetch and enjoys his twice daily walks, and he is also is very good at snuggling. Digby's IDEAL home would be with another playful dog. He is currently being fostered with a female mastiff x and they are having a wonderful time. He has also played with puppies. 07.01.2022 2020 has been a succession of disasters and disappointments, but a little ray of sunshine brightened up our day in the form of Piper. We were super excited to have Piper and her dad visit our op shop and sign up as foster carers last week. Just when we thought we couldn’t get any luckier, Piper showed us the selection of beautiful handmade earrings she made, which will be sold at our op shop with all proceeds going to NRAS! ... Thank you Piper for your generosity, creativity and kindness. Let’s hope the rest of 2020 can be filled with moments like this!

07.01.2022 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER Marion Our Volunteer of the month for December is relatively new to NRAS, but has quickly established herself as an extremely capable, caring and friendly member of the NRAS team. After retiring last year Marion’s new found freedom unfortunately presented right as covid hit, though once we could all get out and about again Marion joined the team and has been a fantastic addition to the NRAS family.... Role at NRAS Office/Administration AND cat carer! Marion has proved herself to be a whizz in the office and a reliable carer for our kitty cats in need of foster care. What do you love about being part of the NRAS family? I enjoy the people I work with and love being in the office (based at the shelter) where I can see and meet all the animals that come and go. Dog or cat person? I love them both Do you have any pets of your own? Not at the moment. I’d love to adopt a small dog, but I plan on doing a little more travelling so the timing isn’t right just yet. That’s why foster caring has been so great. Having the flexibility is very handy. Hobbies and interests I love catching up with friends and enjoy workout sessions at curves. Favourite food *without hesitation. Chocolate!

05.01.2022 What’s cuter than a puppy??? TWO PUPPIES!!! These gorgeous boys are quick learners, eager to please and LOVE to cuddle. Teddie and Eddie are grey hound X whippet with a little something else mixed in. ... They are approximately 12 weeks old and are both looking for loving homes. They are the perfect mix of playful and placid and love kids. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal, long legged, lean companion give us a call. Pups as perfect as this don’t last long!
03.01.2022 Who doesn't love a good old scruffy looking dog, particularly a large one with lots of hugs to give ?? This 5 year old handsome boy really needs a new place to call home where he can receive all the love he deserves. Diesel is a 35kg Mastiff X Wolfhound who is now desexed and had all of his vet work done. His name is Diesel, but he would take on any name you wanted to give him as long as it comes along with a loving home, hugs, and good times. He is a big loveable boy who ju...st wants cuddles. He is very keen for a head scratch and to sit by your side. He walks pretty well on lead but isn’t perfectly trained to walk right by your side. He does have a cheeky tendency to gently jump up for attention, but this can be corrected with some work. Diesel seems to be ok with most dogs but we are unsure about cats. He is very excited around birds. He does seem to show some food aggression when other dogs are around, which is not unusual, so separate feeding or a solo dog life might be a good option. He would need a short walk once or twice a day but more importantly just attention. He would love to be an indoor/outdoor dog. We believe he is better indoors at night. An adult home would probably be the best option, with people home most of the time and experienced with larger dogs. He has already been flea/tick treated, vaccinated and wormed. Diesel is not in the care of NRAS, we are just helping by reaching out to our wonderful supporters to see if anyone out there is interested in adopting this dog. Please direct all enquiries direct to Keen St Vet Clinic on (02) 6621 9811 for any more information.

03.01.2022 PET OF THE WEEK Diesel is a big playful Irish Wolfhound mix boy who is super cuddly with his humans. He is 5 years old, walks quite well on a lead but will pull when he sees other dogs so needs more work there. Diesel gets on well with big dogs, but is not good with little dogs or cats, therefore he will never be an off lead on the beach dog. He will be AOK as an only dog and in fact would probably prefer that as then he gets all of the human’s attention! Diesel needs a h...ome with a large yard where he can run and exercise - he will chase a ball and loves to play with toys. He is a very loyal boy and is really good with kids. He loves scratches and general grooming, and is one very affectionate boy.
