24.01.2022 The NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy (MEMS) was released last August and the implementation plan is currently being finalised. Today, staff from NRJO member councils, Local Land Services and the Department of Planning Industry and Environment participated in a workshop to support this process, ensuring that local government authorities and agencies continue to work closely and collaboratively for successful project outcomes. Council staff along the coast have provided va...luable input at various stages of the MEMS development and there are opportunities for future projects to align with Council's Coastal Management Programs (CMPs). NRJO welcomes the NSW Government’s $45.7m funding allocated to Stage One of this large body of work. There is strong alignment between the MEMS initiatives and a number of NRJO key projects and advocacy areas focusing on river system health and water quality across the region. 12.01.2022 The Northern Rivers Joint Organisation (NRJO) has joined the call from the Northern Rivers Housing Forum for the recently elected State Government to provide a firm commitment to increase Social and Affordable Housing. NRJO will be applying political pressure in its advocacy for increased social housing, including crisis and emergency accommodation, to be on par with the state average of 4% of housing stock. Stock in Tweed is 2.8% and Byron 1.5%. Every day more than 37,000 people in NSW experience homelessness with numbers increasing and this is unacceptable.
