02.01.2022 Meet Main Arm Upper Primary School. The little school with a big heart! Main Arm Upper Primary School is in a national competition to win a new playground made ...from recycled plastic. Their current playground is more than 25 years old and is rusted and unsafe for the kids to play on. ‘The government doesn’t pay for school playgrounds and to raise the funds to replace it would take us 30 years of sausage sizzles’ said parent Heather Pheloung. A small school of 103 students, Main Arm is competing against larger schools with five to ten times as many kids. The local community have been supporting this little school by voting daily and watching the remarkable climb up the leader board, from fifteenth to fourth place and rapidly gaining ground to third place. Some facts: The school currently in first place has 928 students polling 20 votes per student. Second place 728 students polling 21 per student. Third place 500 students polling 13 per student. Main Arm Primary School of 103 students is polling 64 votes per student. ‘Every school in the competition would love a new playground but we really need a new playground’ said parent Jennifer Miller, ‘We are so grateful for the community response as we need all the help we can get.
