24.01.2022 Key messages from the Australian Human Rights Commission's Respect@Work Report released in March include: Addressing workplace sexual harassment in Australia... is complex and confusing for victims and employers and places a heavy burden on individuals to make a complaint. Most people who experience sexual harassment never report it. There is a need to shift from the current reactive, complaints-based approach, to one which requires positive actions from employers and a focus on prevention. The HRC proposes a new approach for government, employers and the community to better prevent and respond to sexual harassment in the workplace Read the full report here >> http://ow.ly/LUTg50CtoyO #MindYourLanguage #RespectAtWork #SexualHarassment #GenderEquality #WorkplaceCulture #orangetheworld #ItsTime #MeToo #LetHerSpeak #TimesUp #16Days #AGEC2020 #AGEC

11.01.2022 Each year between November 13th - 20th we celebrate the T in our community who have been pioneers of progress and advocacy for the #LGBTIQ+ community throughout... history. Trans Awareness Week is a chance to take some time to celebrate our Trans community, learn about gender diversity, take real action to raise awareness on trans issues and advocate for trans lives. Each year, Trans Awareness Week finishes with the whole community observing Trans Day of Remembrance on November 20th. This day is a chance to celebrate the pioneers throughout history that have fought for trans rights and honour those we have lost. Throughout the week we will be sharing resources on how you can be a better Trans ally and learn about the Gender Diverse community. Our first recommendation is to watch #Disclosure on Netflix and hear first-hand stories from the Trans and Gender Diverse community of Hollywood and the fight for visibility. The Trans community is strong and resilient. However, our community is strongest when we look after ourselves and one another. If you are experiencing distress or unwelcome thoughts and feelings, we want you to know that there is always somewhere or someone to turn to. You can access these resources on our website. If you are experiencing significant distress the below organisations are here to help QLife Australia 1800 184 527 Beyond Blue1300 224 636 headspace 1800 650 890 Lifeline 13 11 14 To our Trans community, you are loved, you are valid, and we are here to support you. #TransAwarenessWeek #translivesmatter

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Emma Sharp for winning the Individual Fitzgerald Social Change Award at the NT Human Rights Awards last night! Emma conducted tireless advoc...acy and awareness raising around the limitations of employment entitlements to meet the needs of parents of premature babies, sharing her own and others’ personal stories to highlight the issue. Emma managed all this while raising her son who was born prematurely, managing his health needs, and negotiating her own employment situation. In November 2020, legislation was enacted to introduce flexibility to the Fair Work Act that improves the rights of all parents eligible for unpaid parental leave, but more specifically provides much needed entitlements and flexibility to better support parents who experience stillbirth and premature birth. Emma was supported in her efforts by NTWWC, particularly our former Co-Director Anna Davis. NTWWC thanks the NT Human Rights Awards judging panel for recognising and celebrating the significance of Emma’s contributions to change.

Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins' 2020 National Inquiry into sexual harassment in Australian workplaces, Respect@Work, found that workplace sexual harassment is widespread and pervasive and preventable. It calls on all employers to work to create safe, gender-equal and inclusive workplaces.
