While we unfortunately won't be able to see you this year at our 'Classic', we do hope that you're all keeping well. 09.01.2022 Due to not being able to run our boot camp this year keep an eye out for tips for training we will post over the next few months. These tips will come from the Bakers and the Winther’s in how they manage their kennels. If you have any suggestions for topics you would like covered, comment below! First up we have our post-run training. By leaving dogs hooked up to cool down you are teaching the team to keep the line tight. You are able to manage intake of water and notice how they coped with the run. The last dogs to unhook from the line should be your leaders. As you unhook, de harness and check over for injuries

09.01.2022 Have a watch to see what types of tracks we train on. Strength = speed..... By hill training and using an ATV we can keep the speed up during hill work. As you can see, we don’t go overly fast, keeping a steady tempo the whole way builds muscles, fitness and decreases the risk of injury

08.01.2022 ***ANNOUNCEMENT - 9th NVSDC 2020 Classic & ASSA Nationals CANCELLED*** Hi Everyone Unfortunately the NVSDC Committee have had to make the decision to cancel this years race due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.... We have reached a point now where we are unable to get a permit for the race and the Stage 3 restrictions announced this week means that most people cannot train their dogs. There is also no confirmed end date for the current restrictions that would give us confidence to be able to arrange another date in 2020. So in the interests of both musher and dog care the NVSDC Classic will not be run in 2020 and hopefully we will be able to return in 2021. In relation to the ASSA Nationals, the NVSDC Committee have expressed our interest in hosting the Nationals in 2021, which is up to the ASSA Committee to decide. Please stay safe during these uncertain times, look after your families and give your dogs lots of love. NVSDC Committee

07.01.2022 Harness breaking with 7 month old pups. Choose a word like yes or good dog to use when the dog is pulling into the harness. Try to not use any other words once the dog is doing what you ask, eventually there will be no talking needed. This trains your dog to listen to you and perform the task on one call. Each dog reaches this stage at different times, Raven, who is featured in the video, gets distracted easily at the moment. I can feel on the lead when she changes pressure and that’s when I give a command. Most importantly, make it fun!

06.01.2022 ***2021 NVSDC Classic Race Update*** REMINDER - race entries will close at 11.59pm on Sunday 6th June, the online entry at www.nvsdc.org.au will close at this time so it will be impossible to enter after this date. No ifs buts or maybe's. That is only 12 days away.

06.01.2022 Another successful NVSDC Fundraiser, supporting your sled dog club Thank you for those who supported the recent Scentsy NVSDC Fundraiser. Dinner Plain Sled Dog Sprint The inaugural Dinner Plain Sled Dog Sprint showcases Sled Dog racing in Village and... snowy cross country trails of the alpine shire, at Dinner Plain (near Mt Hotham). Sadly, due to COVID 19, this great race has been cancelled for the 8th & 9th August weekend. HOWEVER! What's not cancelled is the mighty musher spirit! Let's support the Sled Dog Sprint, and those awesome snow dogs with some Scentsy rewards!
