25.01.2022 As a part of this year’s conference, the NT Farmers Association will be raising money for our neighbours in Timor Leste affected by the recent devastating floods. The April flooding destroyed houses and infrastructure across the entire country, caused over 40 fatalities, and wiped out agricultural land. Please give generously at our donation tins during the Food Futures event. Timor Leste seasonal workers have a long history of assisting our farmers across the Australian Agricultural industry, help us give back to them.

02.01.2022 Hemp seed is exceptionally high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, and is gaining popularity as an ingredient in health foods and plant-based products. While hemp producers have traditionally grown large plants that produce lots of fibre, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development - DPIRD principal research scientist Dr David McNeil (left) is investigating tropically-adapted hemp plants that instead produce larger volumes of these high-value seeds. Last month ...David and his team planted new variety trials at the Frank Wise Institute for Tropical Research in Kununurra. The Kununurra trial will be grown under irrigation, while a partner trial by @NT.DTT will be non-irrigated relying on summer rainfall. Dr McNeil will be speaking about future directions for tropical hemp research at the #FoodFutures21 conference in Darwin on Thursday 20 May
