25.01.2022 One of the best ways to teach your children to brush away those invisible nasties is by example. They need help and encouragement to develop this new skill so try to make it fun. Here are 5 tips to help you encourage tooth brushing: Sing a song or make brushing noises There are many dentist story books that can be used to help teach young children about brushing teeth Some children will do well using two toothbrushes. One for them to hold and use and one for you to ...brush properly Other children respond well to your turn, my turn, where the child brushes first then the parent brushes For older children, try using a reward system What song would your child decide to sing while they brush their teeth? Contact our friendly team to make an appointment for your child: (07) 4840 2700

25.01.2022 Did you know that tongue piercings can damage teeth? They can also introduce potentially harmful bacteria into your mouth which may impact your oral health.

24.01.2022 It’s Earth Day today and we want to take action by reminding you of something we all forget Always Carry a Reusable Bag. So we know that we should never use plastic grocery bags, but sometimes you get to the shops and realize you left your reusable shopping bag at home. We know, we’ve been there too! Although they are built for their convenience, grocery bags are extremely inconvenient for the planet: It’s estimated that we use 4 TRILLION plastic bags each year worldw...ide Besides being made from fossil fuels, the average plastic bag is only used for 10-20 minutes (just think about how quickly you can get from the grocery store to your house) Unfortunately, that plastic bag lives on much, much longer perhaps as much as 1,000 years in a landfill Plastic bags spell big trouble for recycling facilities, getting caught in the machinery and slowing or even halting the entire recycling process. They’re called ‘tanglers’ by professionals in the recycling business for a reason According to Waste Management, only 1% of grocery bags are returned to grocery stores for recycling #dentistinmackay #mackaydentistry #mackaydentist #northernbeachesdental #Thegreatglobalcleanup #plasticfree #plastics #cleanupplastic #reusablebag

24.01.2022 The amount of sugar and acidity in alcohol can lead to tooth decay, especially when alcohol is paired with soft drinks.

24.01.2022 Three reasons you should attend the dentist, even if you don’t feel tooth or gum pain: 1. Plaque, tartar and cavities plaque and tartar build-up is inevitable, regardless of how well you brush your teeth and small cavities that you are unaware of can become big issues if left untreated. 2. Have a smile you’re proud of! Get rid of stains and yellow teeth by getting your teeth cleaned. ... 3. Cost! If you go to the dentist once a year for a check-up and clean you’re far less likely to need expensive, time consuming and possibly painful dental care. #dentaltreatment #dentistinmackay #mackaydentistry #brushyourteeth #dentalcavities #dentalcheckup #mackaydentist #northernbeachesdental

23.01.2022 BABY'S TEETH Your child’s baby teeth will start to appear, often with the central bottom teeth first, anywhere between 4 months and 10 months. Like every developmental milestone, the point at which your baby gets their teeth is an individual thing and you shouldn’t worry if their teeth appear a bit earlier or later than other kids their age.... Dental health is an ongoing process throughout a child’s life and you should begin by modeling good dental health practices early on so your child sees them as a normal part of life. Even if your child only has a few teeth, bacteria can get in and start causing decay, so you should start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first tooth erupts. One great way to get your child used to teeth cleaning is to wipe their gums with a soft cloth twice a day. As soon as the teeth appear, you can switch to using a soft children’s brush, with no toothpaste until 18 months of age. #teethingbaby #teething #motherhood #parenthood #teethingproblems #newmum #babiesteeth

21.01.2022 Happy Dental Health Week! The focus of this years campaign is on the harm sugar does to oral health. We know the information about sugar can sometimes be misleading on packaging so here is a little something to think about the next time youre in the supermarket. Do you know the difference between Natural Sugar and Added Sugar? Natural Sugar refers to the sugar that is naturally present in whole, unprocessed foods and drinks. For example: fruit, milk and unflavoured yoghurt.... Added sugar is sugar added to foods and drinks during processing, cooking or before eating and drinking. For example, maple syrup, coconut sugar, brown sugar, rice malt syrup and sucrose (white sugar). Added sugar consumption should be limited to 6 teaspoons (24gr) or less, per day. Natural vs added sugar. Can they affect my teeth the same? Yes. However, foods such as fruit and milk are made up of small amounts of natural sugars as well as fibre, vitamins and minerals which are good for the body. Processed foods with large quantities of added sugar often have no or limited nutritional value. #dentalhealthweek

18.01.2022 Implant dentistry is one of the most exciting developments in dental technology over the past few decades and we are extremely pleased to be able to offer this service to our patients. How long do dental implants take to be placed? How do I care for them? How many dental implants do I need? How long do they take to heal? How long has our dentist been performing dental implant surgery for? The best way to get the answers to all your questions is to make an appointment with our principal dentist, Dr Prathap Kripakaran. He’ll walk you through the process and give you all the information you need to make a decision. *All treatments carry risks. 12.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there for this Sunday!

11.01.2022 As per the restrictions on dental practitioners, we are only able to perform urgent and emergency dental procedures at this stage. Therefore although we are open, we are working in a limited capacity. We have been calling many of you to cancel your non-urgent appointments over the last few days to give priority to those in pain who need urgent treatment. These are difficult times, but all of you have been so understanding and accomodating. ... Thank you very much.

11.01.2022 Your childs first visit to the dentist is so important. Your little one might fuss during their dental visit. This is the same as when they might fuss at a restaurant, or the hairdresser, or anywhere else youd rather they were quiet. Dont worry, this is completely normal and our experienced and very gentle dental team takes extensive care when seeing your child so they feel as comfortable as possible during their visit. Here are a few ideas for parents when they take thei...r child to the dentist for the first time: Use positive and child-friendly terms, like; seeing the tooth fairys friend or going for a ride in the dental chair Whatever you do, dont use the dentist as a deterrent! Threats like if you dont brush your teeth the dentist will pull them out will only reinforce the fears Avoid using words like needle, pull, or drill as this will only cause your child to become fearful and scared In the lead up to the first dental visit you could play dentist at home and count your childs teeth and explain that the dentist takes care of our teeth See more

10.01.2022 Wed like to inform all our patients that we are open and taking appointments at this stage. It is however a constantly evolving situation and we will be guided by the decisions made by relevant governing authorities. We have always maintained rigorous hygiene and cross contamination protocols but we have implemented additional changes keeping the safety of our patients and staff as our primary concern. Safety steps we have taken include:... Scheduling appointments We are trying our best to schedule appointments in such a way that there are no more than 1-3 patients at any given time in the practice. We also are trying to space apart the appointments for this reason. Priority will be given to those in pain or discomfort. Therefore, if you have already made an appointment, you might receive a call to change your appointment time or reschedule your appointment. Where possible, we would request you to complete your New Patient Form at home. If you are early for your appointment, please wait in your car instead of waiting in the reception area. In the reception area, you may notice that we are constantly wiping down surfaces, counters, door handles, EFTPOS/HICAPS machines, etc. Please use your wipes or hand sanitisers before you come in. Please do not hesitate to use our facility to wash your hands. Our reception area will appear a bit bare as we have removed magazines and toys for safety reasons. As you would know, we wont shake your hand, but well make you feel welcome. Prior to your treatment, we will be asking you to use an antimicrobial mouth rinse. We ask that if you are feeling unwell, have been overseas in the last 14 days or have been in contact with someone who has a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19 to please not come into our practice. For further information, or if you have any questions, please call us on 07 4840 2700 - we are happy to help.

07.01.2022 Dental Implants are the best solution to missing teeth or poor ill-fitting dentures. A Dental Implant is a titanium post that is surgically placed in the bone, allowing your natural bone to grow around the threads, a process that typically takes 3 to 6 months. This is the most natural way to replace a missing tooth! The benefit of implants allows for you to look and function just as you did with your natural teeth. DID YOU KNOW? The foremost dental implant fun fact is that th...ey are considered to be as strong as the spaceship because spaceship and dental implant both are made by titanium. That’s why they don’t lose their shape and they don’t change the face’s shape or jaw position. We offer an interest-free payment plan so you could get the treatment you need and pay it off weekly, fortnightly or monthly. *All treatments carry risks. 02.01.2022 Are your Teeth connected to your Heart? It’s Heart Week this week and we want to talk about the link between heart disease and oral health. Oral health and heart disease are connected by the spread of bacteria and other germs from your mouth to other parts of your body through the blood stream. When these bacteria reach the heart, they can attach themselves to any damaged area and cause inflammation. This may result in cardiovascular illnesses.... Patients with chronic gum conditions such as gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease have the highest risk for heart disease caused by poor oral health, particularly if it remains undiagnosed and unmanaged. By being proactive about your oral health, you can protect yourself from developing a connection between oral health and heart disease, and keep your smile healthy, clean and beautiful throughout your life. #heartweek #dentistinmackay #mackaydentist #northernbeachesdental #dentaltips #oralhealth #heartdisease
