21.01.2022 UPDATE #5 - 12 December All Townsville and Magnetic Island restricted to emergency water use only Testing of the replacement pipeline to the Douglas Water Treat...ment Plant this afternoon has identified the need to undertake further works to restore the infrastructure. As a result, Townsville City Council continues to call on residents and commercial water users to limit water use to emergency use only. This means turning off your irrigation and no handheld watering, no showers, no washing clothes or dishes, no filling up pools and no washing vehicles or boats. Council has enacted section 43 of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability Act) 2008 to formally restrict the use of water across the city and Magnetic Island. Under this legislation, Council can issue penalties to those residents and businesses found not complying with the water restrictions. Black Weir, which forms part of the city’s water supply network, remains closed for community use from the Ring Road bridge to Ross River Dam. Council thanks Townsville and Magnetic Island residents and business owners for their ongoing cooperation in limiting their water consumption and for their continued understanding. Residents and business owners should monitor Townsville City Council’s Disaster Dashboard for latest information and updates. A further update will be issued Sunday morning. 06.01.2022 Dear Townsville: We will have a pop-up COVID-19 testing clinic located at Strand Park on Monday 20 July, Wednesday 22 July and Friday 24 July this week. On thes...e days, the clinic will be open from 9AM 2PM. Here’s what you need to know: - Our dedicated staff in the pop-up clinics will be wearing all of the necessary personal protective equipment. It won’t win a fashion award but we’re here to make sure you’re safe, not to dress snazzy - You know the symptoms, but in case you’ve had your head in the sand at the Strand: fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, lack of taste or smell and fatigue are all signs - Get tested, even if it’s mild. You don’t want to be the person who neglects symptoms and finds out when it’s too late - Don’t be complacent; more travel means more chances of contracting COVID-19. If you haven’t escaped the sunny confines of North Queensland that’s fine; however, someone around you or someone you come into contact with may have, so if you’re sick, get tested - This location may change. The pop-up clinic will move in line with demand; however, we will keep everyone updated at ALL time. All updates will be broadcast on our Facebook page. In conclusion; if you’re sick, regardless of how mild, walk in, walk out and wait at home until you’re cleared.
