25.01.2022 Tax office.... This was the call demanding money for an unpaid debt to the Tax Office. As we've reported before, these calls are designed to threaten, intimidate and scare people into complying with the scammer's demands.... Most hang up, some check with police, others - particularly the elderly and vulnerable - fall victim, in this case to the tune of many thousands of dollars. Just hang up. Music.... This one saw a Beacon Hill man answer his phone to music and an automated message: "Stay on the line," it said, "to hear who loves you." It happened twice. Then came his phone bill - the 45-year old was charged for both calls.

22.01.2022 The organisation is community based, not-for-profit and run entirely by volunteers. 15.01.2022 Urinating in public is not OK.... Half past midnight on a Saturday morning and Manly's Corso is a busy place. The driver they stopped was clear of alcohol but when asked for his licence produced an international version that was expired. He had to organise alternative transport while his licence was suspended.

14.01.2022 We all know the popularity of shopping online... How easy it is to browse, select and pay for that purchase in the comfort of home... How good it is to find that parcel waiting just a day or so later at your front door.... Trouble is, a good many of us will be out when that parcel arrives meaning it can be left, often for hours, in the open and on its own. Increasingly, crooks are prowling our streets, doing their best to get to our parcels before we do. The months leading up to Christmas are likely to see them as active in our suburbs as the delivery drivers on their runs. So, we're urging people to think of alternatives to the doorstep drop-off: - perhaps pick up your parcels from the post office... - use increasingly convenient click-and-collect facilities... - have parcels delivered to where someone is at home or waiting. It's all about thwarting the thieves and ensuring it's you and not them who gets to open and enjoy that purchase from online.
13.01.2022 The calls came in early last Friday afternoon screams coming from a home at Collaroy Plateau. 12.01.2022 These pistols were seized recently in Sydney's Hills area from 15-year old boys. They are Air Pistol Replicas bought online and appear identical in every way - weight, size and moving parts - to the real thing. Because of that similarity, here in New South Wales they are considered to be firearms which means they are subject to the same penalties as the real thing.... Anyone found in possession of these replicas will be dealt with in accordance with the law, regardless of their age. It is not a defence to claim they are legal in another state. If you have them, please surrender them.
11.01.2022 You don't usually get to hear about the kindness of police, these gestures usually go unseen. Hats off to our colleagues in Victoria.
11.01.2022 Police have assisted with rescue efforts after wild weather caused extensive damage in Sydney’s northern beaches overnight. About 12.15am (Monday 26 October 202...0), officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Great Mackerel Beach, Pittwater after reports of a land slip. Damage assessments will be conducted by the relevant agencies when weather permits. Police are appealing for people to stay away from the affected area as forecasted weather may render it unsafe.
10.01.2022 The summer heat's on, the bedroom's stifling and the fans are working overtime. Windows and doors are left open for even the slightest relief. Trouble is, the crooks know this too.... So it was at Manly during the height of last weekend's temperature spike. A 36-year old man's fallen asleep sometime after midnight, leaving the lights on and his balcony door open. Someone's let themselves in to steal a smart watch and gift card from his bedroom. If you're going to leave open windows and doors make sure it's only the breeze and not burglars that can get in. Install locks or use something as simple as a piece of dowel to stop them opening beyond a point that's safe.
10.01.2022 The Washaway Beach track runs through the bush from Clontarf to clifftop, giving access to the beach below and stunning views across the Harbour to the Heads. The call came in just after two this afternoon; a woman trying to get down to the beach had slipped and tumbled from the top. Police, ambulance and fire brigade crews arrived to find her lying on a ledge about five metres down, a friend in support and bleeding from a nasty injury to her forehead.... The job of getting her to safety and treatment required a combination of Fire and Rescue ropes and doctors brought in by chopper. Stabalised, the 38-year old from Sydney's west was winched to the helicopter for the flight to hospital.

07.01.2022 The first seriously hot days of summer are on their way. For many, that means the chance to head off and enjoy our beaches, waterways and other outdoor places. For others, dealing with the heat and humidity will be a struggle.... If you know someone like this, please keep an eye on them - make sure they're drinking enough and call for help if they need it. As always, do not leave people or pets in cars, even for a few minutes. On days like these, temps inside can hit the 50s and beyond in a very short time quickly endangering lives, particularly of the young, elderly and furry. And if you're headed to the beach or other popular place, please remember we're still living with COVID. To ensure still-necessary social distancing, everyone's being asked to spend no more than an hour or two at these places so others can have their turn, safely. Beaches will be patrolled and in some cases drones flown to keep a check on numbers - the last thing anyone wants is for areas to be closed because of overcrowding. For advice on how to 'beat the heat' follow our link: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//beat-the-heat-keep-healthy.

04.01.2022 The scrub-covered dunes behind the beach from Dee Why to Long Reef are difficult to navigate and hard for searchers to find anyone in there who's either missing or lost. So it was yesterday afternoon when a concern-for-welfare call came in about a woman missing in the area and possibly hurt. Police spent an hour searching the scrub all the way from the surf club at Dee Why to the car park at Long Reef.... There was no sign of the woman and her phone wasn't answering. But they did spot a man flying his camera-equipped drone who was happy to help. With all eyes on the remote-control video screen, it took just minutes to find the woman who was lying flat in the scrub, hurt and visible only from above. With ambulance crews already on-scene she was brought to safety, treated and taken to hospital. A great result and our sincere thanks to the drone operator for his much appreciated help.
