20.01.2022 Loved my "No Brainer" Level 2 class today...we painted * a Lake Scene, * some Lavender, * tropical fish, and a * glowing night sky with pines. - What's the deal with the 'no brainer' title? No learning today, just a once-a-term workshop of 4 paintings which incorporate tons of the techniques we've ALREADY learned in Level 2 Beginners. (The big boost to basic skills.) Here's what Angie had to say about Level 2:- "I thought I was an intermediate painter....ha ha, but... since joining your Level 2 onliners, I realise how far from the truth that was. I'm painting better than before, but now see how much I didn't know - it's a bit scary! but so much fun. Thanks for explaining everything so well, I feel like I am actually in the classroom with you in front of me." A. Creddon. (Thanks Angie, and thanks for letting me post that nice review.) Did you know I have 3 Level 2 classes? 2 are on zoom, and have only 3 weeks to go. BUT the other is online...start any time. You can join up whenever you want. If you think you know all the absolute basics, then maybe level 2 is what you need for a boost! https://welcome-to-watercolour.teachable.com/p/w2w-level2 See more

20.01.2022 You THOUGHT you already subscribed to my newsletter but didn't get it in your inbox yesterday evening??? If you didn't get it in your inbox you need to do 3 things. 1. Look in your junk mail, if you find it (sent 27.11) then mark the sender as not junk. or safe sender. 2. if not in your junk mail, look through deleted, again mark it safe or not junk, if you can.... 3. ALWAYS put my newsletter email: [email protected] (its different to my business email) in your safe senders list. To do that, go to your email settings and search safe senders. when you find the place to add a safe sender, you should add that email address Jenny@... Alternatively, make my newsletter email a 'contact'. That should make it a safe sender. See more

10.01.2022 Neville Peterkin is a painter from Western Australia who has always interested me. His gorgeous landscapes are full of colour and light, and you know I LOVE gumtrees. Mr. Peterkin garnered interest when a series of stamps, featuring Australian birds and flowers were printed in the 1980s. I actually bought one of the originals, a Waratah. Neville exhibits in Lyndendale Gallery, WA with his artist wife. https://nevillepeterkin.vpweb.com.au/Exhibition-Doubleup

09.01.2022 "IF YOU ARE NOT IN TROUBLE with Watercolour, then you're in trouble..." - Chan Dissanayake. How true. He's saying that regardless of how relaxed you are painting, the watercolour is always the boss, the timing..the pigment...the environment...the paper...it ALWAYS has something up it's sleeve to muck you up IF you're not thinking ahead. There is always a little sense of urgency with watercolour. You should FEEL a little bit of pressure, especially in those big bold washes, and those fiddly timed wet into wets. You should FEEL like you're a little in trouble, that way...you know you're giving it the thought you should. You can relax, and 'be out of trouble', when you finish. (Work below by Chan Dissanayake...and I'm allowed to display it... happily, I own it.)

04.01.2022 THE BIG PAINT RIPOFF ! Want to pay .73c per ml, or $3.19 per ml??? Did you know that the price of your paint is solely dependent on your willingness to shop around AND a bit of tech savvy? Today I'm talking about Winsor & Newton. While doing a little research this morning, I found that most art supply places charged DOUBLE the price of some outlets, for Winsor & Newton paint, which originates, of course, in the UK. Let's take SERIES 1 BURNT SIENNA: ... It varied from a massive $3.19 PER MILLILITRE!! to a measly .73c per millilitre. Want to find out how to pay .73c?? - no, I'm not selling it... it's easy and cheap to buy at this price. I'll let you know how and where in my BIG PAINT RIPOFF update being released shortly. Subscribe to updates here: https://www.northernbeacheswatercolour.com.au/subscribe I'll save you a bundle! See more

03.01.2022 Times 3 - one in front of me, one on paper, and one virtual on screen. (see top right) My live online watercolour zoom classes on Tuesday and Wednesday learned about composition, shadows, rule of thirds, composing still life, lighting and direct painting...while I painted my cornishware jug, they painted their own composition.
