23.01.2022 EAR MARKING OPTIONAL A new proposal is asking whether livestock owners should be forced to tag and brand their animals. The Department of Primary I...ndustries is proposing that earmarking and branding no longer be mandatory, but is asking pastoralists for their thoughts. Department spokesman Brad McKormack says it's important everyone has their say. "The department's received informal and formal feedback from livestock owners about the necessity for earmarking and branding their stock, and we feel that the best way to gauge that the proposal has support is to put it out to a consultative process." "The department will continue to run the brand's register and will continue to allot unique identifiers to owners of livestock. "We're not suggesting for a moment that people stop it, it would just be suggesting people could have a choice." Would you like to have a choice?

19.01.2022 An Australian-first app has been developed to assist the Western Australia Police Force to manage checks on people who are quarantining after entering WA. G2G N...ow is a voluntary app that helps people subject to quarantine directions to prove their compliance with easy check-ins via the app, to further support physical checks by police. Users will be prompted throughout their quarantine period to take photos of themselves, which are geotagged and matched against their registered quarantine premises. Everyone who has an exemption to come into WA is encouraged to download the app and use it. If an exempt traveller chooses not to use the G2G Now app, they will continue to be subject to the standard in-person checks by the WA Police Force. By downloading and using G2G Now you can do your bit to limit the spread of COVID-19 and keep the WA community safe. More information: www.wa.gov.au//departme/g2g-now-frequently-asked-questions

14.01.2022 COLLECTING FOR THE CREW A donation drive has been launched to help support the 21 Filipino crew of a bulk carrier stuck in Port Hedland and in their ship off t...he coast because of a COVID outbreak. The Port Hedland Seafarers Centre is collecting items for the men, many of whom disembarked the ship for hotel quarantine with little with them. The Centre's operations manager John Hague says any donations which will help the seafarers pass the time will be appreciated. "Mainly after things like food, nothing that's refrigerated or needs cooking, maybe even toiletries or games or books things like that which will go to the crew," he says. "I think there's a number of people in the community who want to step up and help and the Filipino community has obviously stepped right up to the front." : Seafarer's Centre operations manager John Hague with the first donations, from Jesse Pawloff and Karla Pawloff-Abad. 14.01.2022 From the Tourism Council of WA: WA domestic tourism lost $214 million, a decline of 26 per cent, in the month of July 2020 compared with July 2019 figures, the latest national visitor survey results reveal. While intrastate visitor spending grew by $72 million, this was not enough to compensate for the $286 million lost from the lack of interstate visitors. This does not include the $193 million lost from the lack of international visitors.... Full statement at the link.

10.01.2022 Important controlled interstate border update as at 15 November 2020. Changes have been made to WA's controlled border for arrivals from South Australia, ef...fective immediately. Anyone arriving from South Australia will be required to enter self-quarantine for 14 days and be tested for COVID-19. More information: https://www.wa.gov.au//annou/changes-was-controlled-border From Saturday, 14 November at 12.01am, Western Australia will transition to a safe and sensible controlled border arrangement based on the latest public health advice. Under WA’s new controlled border, the existing hard border exemption system will be removed and replaced with an updated nationwide health-based threshold that allows for safe travel into Western Australia from interstate with conditions, and subject to trigger points being met. The Chief Health Officer has recommended a 14-day rolling average of less than five community cases per day in each state and territory (a standard that is currently being met in each jurisdiction) is required before progressing to the new border controls. Travellers from interstate will be permitted entry to WA with conditions on arrival including a declaration, health screening and a possible COVID-19 test. Failure to follow these directions or providing false information will be enforceable by law, with penalties ranging from $1,000 infringements, to up to $50,000 fines for individuals.
