23.01.2022 Don’t miss the audio visual room in ‘We Eat We Are’. . There, Siying Zhou captures the national obsession with cooking shows and YouTube recipes by deconstructing the ingredients of the humble Aussie pie and ubiquitous toastie. It is mesmerising.... Only on til the end of the month make sure you drop into Vimy Lane, Parap and this fantastic exploration of identity through food - with thanks to Artback NT

22.01.2022 Warung street stalls are the life of Indonesian food culture and are demarcated by colourful banners advertising pictographic menus which delineate the restaurant from the busy road, providing a dining area for customers - curator Sarah Pirrie. In homage to Warung, ‘We Eat We Are’ uses street stall banners to create a space for the audience to join in the visual foodie narrative.

21.01.2022 Day by day, we can choose the food or we can be obsessed with the food... we absorb it and reflect upon what feeds us through our daily life. - Bao Vi Truong. Bao Vi Truong has allied the physical, spiritual and emotional in her triptych ‘What is food?’ Referencing Vietnamese Hàng Trông painting and Western altarpieces, she has created ‘gods’ and ‘goddesses’ from our familiar masked plover, agile wallaby and saltwater croc.... 04.01.2022 It's last drinks at 'Groundswell' - at least until it makes it way south to Alice, Tennant and Katherine. It is an extraordinary achievement, an important and beautiful exhibition, that shares the excellence of Territory artists at the same time as sounding the alarm over the Territory's use and abuse of its water supplies. From water dreaming or Kapi Tjukurrpa, through to monster fish made of ghost nets, the exhibition traverses the NT culturally, physically and emotionally.... "Art arms us with a common visual language to create deep connections which are emotively felt before they are intellectually known. It generates a conceptual exchange in ways more visceral than the mode of spoken dialogue and consequently proves itself a tool of broader application in the process of change. "Imbued with the energy to inspire concrete action, art can forge a sense of solidarity with the viewer. This solidarity becomes the momentum required to form wider collective channels of progressive action which flow out beyond the boundaries of nation and state." - Carmen Ansaldo, SPARK NT Curator. Thankyou Artback NT for having Northern Centre for Contemporary Art join the Groundswell. Patricia Phillipus Napurrula 'Kapi Tjukurrpa' Synthetic polymer paint on canvas

02.01.2022 Jack Green currently has a work in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards depicting Ngabaya ngyirridji gunindjba - the devil that fiddles and digs in our country. In Groundswell his work also highlights what is happening to his country through mining. "I make these paintings because I want to show people what is happening to our Country and to Aboriginal people.... "Most people aren't really listening to us, proper way. "We want the government and big rich companies to care about how we want to live in our own Country with the land protected, with the water not polluted, where there is a future for our children." - Jack Green Jack Green 'White Fellas, Gas Pipelines, Killing Country' Synthetic polymer paint on canvas Waralungku Arts
