25.01.2022 Love Me Love You & Knights of Suburbia Fundraiser - Two of our club members Shaun Francis and Frances Medina have donated their own money to set up a Northern Cycling team for a fundraiser they are organising and passionate about, Mental Health. Shaun Francis message, Covid-19 has impacted the World and has created an issue in Victoria that none of us would have ever predicted. As a result of this many other side effects (too many to identify) are being experienced within th...e community and will continue to impact us once this virus is under control. One said impact is Mental Health. I highly doubt that there is one person in Victoria who isn't aware of someone who is experiencing great mental health issues during this pandemic. Knights of Suburbia is a key supporter of (Love Me Love You) and are a local Cycling group whose purpose is: To change the culture around mental health by raising awareness, stopping the stigma, starting conversations and empowering people to develop well-being and resilience in overcoming life’s challenges. The Love Me Love You organisation www.lovemeloveyou.org.au is a not for profit organisation providing interactive and engaging programs that challenge the views and stigmas surrounding mental health. According to the World health Organisation, mental health is "a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. Regards Shaun Francis Northern Cycling will be helping to promote this event outdoor (depending on restrictions) & indoor rides will be held over the Melbourne Cup long weekend, Northern Cycling team rides will be organised by Shaun and Fran, the rides will be published on our club website and FB Page as we draw closer to the event. Any donation amount you can contribute will be much appreciated and if you are unable to donate, we still will appreciate and welcome your participation and support in one or more of our organised Northern Cycling team rides. 15.01.2022 Late last week the Victorian government introduced tighter restrictions for those who are exercising during the coronavirus lockdown. According to the new rules, residents of metropolitan Melbourne and nearby Mitchell Shire can only go the minimum distance to achieve [their] exercise needs. Meanwhile, it’s unreasonable to do outdoor recreation where that type of exercise can be done closer to home. The new stance has created something of a conundrum for Melbourne’s cycl...ists: what is a reasonable distance from home to be riding? Is it 10 km, 5 km, or 1 km? Or must cyclists simply stay within their suburb? No explicit guidance has been given in this regard. This past weekend, several cyclists around Melbourne were stopped by police mid-ride and questioned about how far they were from home. Here’s how those interactions went down. Here is the full article. https://cyclingtips.com//melbourne-cyclists-stopped-by-p/
