16.01.2022 Y'day we celebrated the launch of Gupapuyu Gou-Mayali’mirri Dhäruk ga Dhäwu Mala by Waymamba Gaykamau, Yasunori Hayashi & illustrated by Brenda Muthamuluwuy. Gupapuyu Gou-Mayali’mirri Dhäruk ga Dhäwu Mala is a careful work of meaning-making with Waymamba Gaykamau as a Yolu Aboriginal elder and Yasunori Hayashi, a non-Indigenous coordinator of Yolu Studies Centre (YSC) at College of Indigenous Futures, Arts & Society (CDU). Accompanied with narratives and illustration...s, this language resource comprises of more than two hundred idioms in particular body-part related in Waymamba’s Gupapuyu Dhuwala, one of Yolu Aboriginal languages from East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, Australia. Yolu Aboriginal people and their languages have many ways of connecting their bodies, and parts of their bodies to things and actions in the outside world. This book explores the ‘hidden meanings’ of many Gupapuyu language compound words and opens up insights into different and unexpected Yolu ways of thinking and being in the world. 09.01.2022 WELCOME VICE-CHANCELLOR SCOTT BOWMAN! The Council of Charles Darwin University (CDU) has formally endorsed the appointment of Professor Scott Bowman AO as Vice-Chancellor and President. About Professor Scott Bowman AO... Professor Bowman grew up in Northamptonshire, England. He began his professional life with a two-year diploma course to become a radiographer. This led to him working as a senior radiographer in several London hospitals before starting his teaching and lecturing career in the UK. In 1998, he left the UK for Australia to take up the position of Head of the School of Clinical Sciences at Charles Sturt University. He holds a Master of Politics and Government, a PhD in Clinical Decision Making and a Master of Business Administration. He has served as Vice-Chancellor and President of Central Queensland University, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Registrar at James Cook University. He is currently Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Western Sydney University. In recognition of his service to higher education in Australia, Professor Bowman was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
