23.01.2022 Passing this on for all those who might be interested: NEWS RELEASE ADELAIDE EISTEDDFOD ENTRIES OPEN... Some of South Australia’s best young vocalists and instrumentalists could take their first steps on an international career at the Adelaide Eisteddfod this year. More than $30,000 in prize money is being offered with competition in 11 divisions getting underway in June. The event will conclude with a Special Award Winners’ Concert on Monday, September 21 at Norwood. The President of the Adelaide Eisteddfod Society, Mr Robert Brown OAM, said the Eisteddfod provided competitors with important auditioning and performance experience as well as the opportunity to have their skills critically judged. Many world-class performers have had their start through the Adelaide Eisteddfod and gone on to make impressive careers in their chosen field, he said. These include International opera singer Grant Doyle, who is now based in London, Alison Farr, who now teaches singing in Melbourne, and violinist Adele Anthony, who, aged 13, was the youngest winner of the ABC Instrumental and Vocal Competition. We believe a lot of young talent is waiting to be unearthed in South Australia and these competitions could well be the first step for another world-class performer. Mr Brown said that as well as providing competitors with valuable audition and performance skills, the Eisteddfod was also used by a number of musical organisations as a recruiting ground for soloists. The competitions give competitors valuable experience in appearing before live audiences, as well being assessed by accomplished and independent adjudicators, he said. Special awards from the competitions include the Arnold Matters Vocal Scholarship with a prize of $6,000. The South Australian final of the Young Virtuoso Award will be held on October 11 at St John’s Church, Adelaide, with the winner going into the National Final to be held in Canberra in, with the winner awarded a $5,000 scholarship. It is only possible to enter the South Australian final of the Young Virtuoso Award through the Adelaide Eisteddfod. Competition for this year’s Adelaide Eisteddfod will be held in Choral, Vocal, Piano, Strings, Guitar, Flute, Woodwind/Recorder, Brass, Ensemble Event and Concerto. THANKS :) Thanks Sue 19/3/2020 Dear {FIRST_NAME} We are very sad to inform you that our forthcoming production season of Mamma Mia has been cancelled, due to the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID19). At this stage we don't know whether we will be able to re-present Mamma Mia later this year, as we now need to re-apply for the rights to perform on new dates, but we are hoping to be able to stage the show either in October or next March/April. As we had already committed several thousand dollars to this production, we will be likely to suffer financially from the effects of cancellation. We are therefore offering the option of converting your Mamma Mia tickets to a Gift Certificate of the same value, which can then be used for a future Northern Light production, whether that be Mamma Mia or another future show. Those converting to a gift certificate will be given preferential booking and a free program with their next booking. Obviously if you would prefer not to take this option, we will be happy to refund you the full amount of your ticket/s. Could you please reply to this email with your preference. 13.01.2022 *** Mamma Mia Announcement *** The Northern Light Theatre Company has decided to postpone its March/April production of Mamma Mia. As you would imagine this was a difficult decision to make. However our committee members were unanimous last night in taking a responsible position with respect to the health and well-being of our people - our members, volunteers and patrons. ... We have been guided by government and medical advice with regards to COVID-19, in particular the need to limit public gatherings in order to protect the vulnerable. For those who have purchased tickets, you will be contacted by our ticketing team in the coming days/weeks regarding the option of ticket exchanges or refunds. This project is to help promote and employ local artists who have recently been affected by the current world circumstances. Our project will consist of hosting a week of interactive singing and choreography videos, live compositions, online meetings and one-on...-one classes. This is aimed for children aged 8-19, passionate about the arts, and who have the ability to record themselves performing to our chosen songs, to then be put into a montage video and featured on our Facebook Page.
