22.01.2022 Today we said goodbye to our outgoing Executive Officer Nardia Sheriff (NMLP 2009). To say Nardia has committed herself to her role and the organisation doesn’t even come close to doing justice to the time and energy that she has given to us and to the NML Program and its participants. Nardia came to NML Inc. in 2018 taking on the role of Program Manager before commencing the EO role 18 months later in July of 2019. During her time with us, Nardia has been integral in the per...sonal growth and development of over 60 individuals that have participated in the NMLP across three program years; implemented multiple improvements within the organisation and significantly contributed to the overall growth and development of Northern Mallee Leaders as a name synonymous with leadership in our region. She has also played a pivotal role in the development of the collaborative network with the eight other regional community leadership programs across the state of Victoria. The work that Nardia has done during her time with us places the organisation on a very positive trajectory that, once the dust settles from the impacts of COVID-19, we hope will ensure that we are able to continue providing our life changing leadership program for many years to come. Nardia leaves the organisation in good hands, our Marketing & Administration Coordinator, Carrie Dichiera, will be stepping up into the role of Operations Manager in the interim whilst we continue to work towards long term funding and sustainability of NML Inc. We are also currently recruiting for a Program Leader, head to our Facebook page to find out more about this role. On behalf of NML Inc., our Committee of Management thanks Nardia for all that she has contributed in her time with us and wish her all the very best in the next stage of her leadership journey. Thank you for everything Nards #nmlp #proudalumni #leadersinleadership #communityleadership #mildura #sunraysia

21.01.2022 Yesterday we held our final NML Program day for 2020. Given the way this year has played out, we realised early on, whilst adapting the program during lockdown, that the only way to do this day properly was surrounded by gin . Thanks ever so much to Fossey's Distillery and Steve Timmis for being a part of this day and providing our participants with an incredibly enjoyable experience to finish off a pretty tumultuous year, it was great to be able to celebrate the achievement...s of the past 10 months. The morning was spent addressing the future of our region post-COVID, Cheree Jukes from Mildura Rural City Council and Brett Millington from Mildura Regional Development walked the participants through the community’s recovery plan and the actions that are being taken to support our community in creating a new COVID-normal. The discussions certainly allowed the group to consider the role their individual contributions play in helping our communities to bounce back! Next, the duty team invited special guest Warren Wright to speak to the group about his current journey - walking around Australia! Waza is trekking this great land to raise awareness and funds for Beyond Blue with his trailer named ‘Bluey’. We thank Waza for sharing his journey and motivations for his cause with our participants, it was an incredibly humbling experience for our cohort. If you would like to learn more about Waza then head to his Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/Wazza-Bluey-2-walk-around-Australia-for-Beyond-Blue-for-mental-health-103109744795053/?ref=page_internal, he will be in Mildura over the next few days whilst making preparations to depart for Melbourne on Wednesday. The remainder of the day was spent focusing on the importance of having fun and incorporating play into leadership, paramount for building bonds and developing relationships something that can be challenging to achieve via zoom! This workshop set the tone for the final activity of the day our annual gin-making session with showman Steve at the helm. The 2020 Program will still be continuing into the first part of 2021 however yesterday was an opportunity to reflect on the year that has been and for all our participants to give themselves a pat on the back for making this year’s program the best it can be, despite it all. The commitment shown by our 2020 cohort has been inspiring to say the least and there will be some very adaptable, resilient individuals that will be joining our Alumni upon graduation. Well done 2020 crew, you should be incredibly proud of all you achieved thus far! #nmlp2020 #nmlp #leadersinleadership #communityleadership #inthistogether #bringon2021 #mildura #sunraysia

21.01.2022 A common trait amongst Northern Mallee Leaders participants is their ability to roll up their sleeves and get the job done, no matter how hard or impossible the goal may be, and current 2020 NMLP participant Katrina Umback is no different. Katrina was interviewed this week on ABC Mildura Swan Hill breakfast radio and featured in the latest issue of the Mildura Weekly for her current fundraising and awareness building efforts towards heart health. In Federal parliament this we...ek, Anne Webster - Federal Member for Mallee spoke about Katrina and the work she is doing, you can watch Anne's address here - https://fb.watch/1smjkCGE2u/ Katrina is currently raising funds for the Heart Foundation MyMarathon in memory of her husband Scott who passed away in 2019 but after the October fundraiser ends, her goals do not stop there, what Katrina really wants to achieve is the placement of a Cath Lab (Catheterisation Laboratory) in Mildura so that local residents have access to an angiogram service without having to leave the district. We applaud Katrina for the work she is doing both behind the scenes and publicly, to raise awareness of this incredibly important health issue and hopefully, one day soon, her work will result in an increased cardio health care capacity for everyone in our community. Well done Katrina. You can read more about Katrina’s story here - https://www.abc.net.au//fight-for-angiogram-acce/12826112 And if you would like to donate to Katrina’s MyMarathon fundraiser (today is the last day), you can do so here - https://www.mymarathon.com.au/fundr/ShowSomeTickerforScotty #nmlp2020 #leadersinleadership #communityleadership #mymarathon #heartdisease #australiasbiggestkiller #getanangiogramserviceinmildura #preventionisbetterthancure #showsometickerforscotty

16.01.2022 Is it 2020 or 2021? A learning for NML of 2020 was how the virtual platform can complement how we deliver our Program. So, today we took advantage of this learning as we jumped back into Zoom to learn about the Media and Communications. With the help of The Edge PR team of Amy and Tamsin, we learnt how to amplify our voice as leaders, especially in the digital world and the various media platforms, to create influence and impact.... Later in the day we spent some time with Kris Krejus, an acclaimed acting teacher from 16TH ST Foundation, to coach us to become better public speakers by connecting to our own story and sharing it with purpose and authenticity. Without Zoom, access to these excellent facilitators and content would not have been possible. So, it was great to see the 2021 NMLP Participants embrace this approach. Some of the group took advantage of being able to continue to work & participate in the zoom, with one Participant dialling in from their tractor. Now that’s efficient! We’ll be back face to face next week when we spend a day speaking to various industries from our region about our local economy. #nmlp2021 #communityleadership #leadersinleadership #zoom #thebradybunchisback #creativeleadership #innovativeleadership #courageousleadership Regional Leadership

15.01.2022 NML Alumni & Participant Appreciation Post We love nothing more than seeing what our Alumni get up to upon graduating from our NML Program, better yet is seeing current participants contributing to the community because of the doors that open whilst undertaking the NMLP. The contribution that all our Alumni bring to our communities and our region is nothing short of remarkable. Special shout out in this post to Indi Clarke (NMLP 2015) whose was recently named in the Herald... Sun 30 young Victorians to look out for; Jo Farrell (NMLP 2013) who featured in Saturday’s issue of the Sunraysia Daily as the first contributor to their new Lunch with series; and current participant Mandy Gowty (NMLP 2020) who, now that restrictions are easing, is back volunteering at SMECC’s conversation and reading ‘café’ program. Keep up the great work all! #nmlp #nmlalumni #proudalumni #leadersinleadership #communityleadership #mildura #sunraysia

15.01.2022 Today was a particularly special today for our 2020 cohort, because today our participants were able to be altogether, in the same place, for the first time, since March! The day began with the tried and tested platform for 2020 - online learning. Our communication extraordinaire Peter Dhu from Corporate Communication Experts, who annually makes the trip over from WA to visit our region, was obviously unable to make the journey this year. But we didn’t let that stand in our ...way and it was almost like receiving a nice warm hug from NMLP years past to be able to connect with Peter again as he delivered another invaluable comms workshop to this year’s group. In the afternoon, our participants came together with an opportunity to reconnect and essentially pick up where we left off 6 months ago for their in person aspects of the program. The resilience, adaptability and strength in the face of adversity demonstrated by this group is something that they should all be proud of and we certainly hope that they will be able to reflect on this year with pride, given the way that they have continued to make the best out of their NMLP experience despite the many obstacles that have stood in their way. It was great to see you all together again, well done crew! #nmlp2020 #inthistogether #communityleadership #leadersinleadership #mildura #sunraysia

14.01.2022 On the last program day for 2020, our participants were introduced to Warren (Wazza) Wright. Wazza is completing a self-supported trek around Australia in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Beyond Blue. During his time with our participants, Wazza shared his story which had a real impact on each of them. Since then, our cohort has been working together to help Wazza obtain all the resources he needed to continue on his journey. Our participants utilized their network...s to the best of their ability to get Wazza a new pair of shoes, water bottles, food, accommodation, socks and care packages. Special thanks and acknowledgement must go to Speedy and the team at INTERSPORT Mildura, Tony Albert and Chemist Warehouse Mildura and of course the participants themselves for the not just the goods donated but the generosity of your actions. A testament to each of your leadership journeys. A number of other local businesses also threw their support behind Wazza during his stay in Mildura, head to his facebook page to find out more - https://bit.ly/3qSMlfK Wazza’s goal is to reach $50,000 in order to help with Beyond Blue’s 24/7 Support Service and programs tackling anxiety, depression and suicide. But Wazza’s greatest hope is that he can make a difference in improving mental health and wellbeing for all Australians. He has certainly made a difference to 20 individuals from the Northern Mallee Leaders 2020 Program. If you would like to contribute to Wazza’s fundraising goal, donations can be made here - https://bit.ly/37cuEzU At the beginning of each NML Program year, we tell the participants to ‘never underestimate the power of a conversation’. Wazza was one person, who had a conversation with our group and a significant impact. This is a shining example of each of our ability to make a real difference, a real positive impact, to the lives of others. And that is what the NMLP is all about Congratulations to everybody involved in supporting Wazza and his journey and to Warren, we wish you all the very best as you carry on with your phenomenal journey, we here at NML will certainly be keeping a close eye on your progress. #nmlp2020 #beyondblue #leadersinleadership #communityleadership #mildura #sunraysia

10.01.2022 Every year, come November, you can notice a change in the air, a bit of a retro change and as the month carries on, it becomes clear that many people within our community are doing their bit to help raise funds and awareness for men’s health as their attempt at a moustache becomes evident with each new day. 06.01.2022 Combining the theme of Women in Business with a skills workshop in Having Difficult Conversations, our participants were pleased to come together again (with appropriate socially distancing in place, of course) for our second last program day! Our day kicked off with former NML Program Manager Cheryl Rix talking us through her leadership journey. Cheryl is currently the Chief Risk Officer at #MilduraHealth and Chair of the board at #LowerMurrayWater and shared with our partic...ipants her experiences as a woman, breaking through barriers and confronting the status quo within male dominated industries to become an effective leader for our community. Sharing wisdom and insight into how she juggled business, family and community across her career, Cheryl was inspirational, and her words resonated strongly with participants when she left them with the hope that one day we will not have to refer to women in business, but rather simply leaders in business. It was timely that the second session of the day was a skills workshop led by @Violet Dhu about Having Difficult conversations. Violet brought her extensive knowledge to the session and gave participants an understanding that having difficult conversations never comes naturally to people. But with good preparation, empathy and an understanding of the bias and triggers we take into a conversation, we can actually contribute to creating an experience that is respectful for everyone. Finally, we wrapped up the day with @simone Tierney, Chief Financial Officer at #Zilzewines and owner of #EndotaSpaMildura. Simone showed participants that all leadership journeys are different and the importance of facing fear to try new things. Simone gave participants an insight into managing the impact of COVID across two businesses, and the importance of making time to prioritise life outside of work. Although the pathway that this year’s participants have taken has been different to previous years, the personal growth and strength of this group as a collective continues to develop! And although we’re nearing the end of the program, participants will still have a number of experiences to undertake before they graduate in March 2021. #mildura #community #leadership #leadersinleadership #regionalleadership #communityleadership #NMLP2020
