16.01.2022 Following the suspension of non-essential gatherings, Northern Stars Toastmasters had our normal meeting tonight as a Zoom meeting. Apologies to those that were not informed, but we did not have access to our full mailing list due to the short notice. The meeting was a great success. Given the move to working from home, we all have a lot to teach each other about using online communications technology effectively. If you're not a member, but you're interested in developing yo...ur communications skills online, especially useful for events such as virtual meetings and online job interviews, email [email protected] to get the details, and you can join us as a guest. Tonight's meeting was a great social escape from what's happening around us. The challenge at our next meeting, on April 14, is to see who can have the most interesting virtual background. Are you up to the challenge? If so, please join us! See more

15.01.2022 In last month's HBR Ideacast 'Accelerate Learning to Boost Your Career', podcaster Alison Beard discussed with Scott Young his highly rated book 'Ultralearning: Master Hard Skills, Outsmart the Competition, and Accelerate Your Career'. The book focuses on self-directed learning and specifically, learning quickly. Public speaking is a skill that comes up often during the podcast. If you're interested in self-directed development of your communications skills, the podcast is well worth a listen. After you've listened to the podcast and been inspired, you're welcome to come along to one of our meetings to see how Toastmasters supports development of your communicaiton and leadership skills. https://hbr.org///accelerate-learning-to-boost-your-career

You're welcome to come along as our guest to learn more about Toastmasters and how you can improve your communications and public speaking in a fun and supportive environment.

02.01.2022 At last night's meeting, Natalie put forward 'tantamount' as the 'Word of the Day'. Well done to Mat, as the only person to successfully incorporate 'tantamount' into a speech. It doesn't matter if you're communicating online or in person, the skill required to think on the fly as you talk does not change!
