22.01.2022 Clean your gutters, downpipes and drains regularly to prevent blockages It is important to keep your gutters and downpipes clear as blockages can cause the water to overflow under the eaves into the roof cavity. Clear leaves from the valleys of your roof as these will make their way into the gutters in heavy rain. Keep the drains around your property clear to help surface water move away and prevent water from pooling and entering your property. Pot plants in courtyards and a...round houses are often used to hide drainage grates. Make sure to move these if heavy rain is likely. 17.01.2022 Large animals and large numbers of animals require special consideration when it comes to emergency planning. 5 important questions to help build a safe plan for your horses or livestock: Will you relocate your animals on your property? Do you know how can you prepare them and your property, to make them safer?... Will you move animals off site and where will you take them? Have you pre-arranged this with another landowner? Do you have suitable transport to move them and have you worked out long it will take? Will you need to make several trips? Will you need others to help you? Are you animals easily identifiable through microchips, tags, branding, or other identification methods? www.getreadyanimals.nsw.gov.au #GetReadyAnimals

07.01.2022 It's not uncommon for storms to increase over the summer months. Are you prepared? Do you need trees removed, trimmed or pruned? This is a dangerous job so to avoid injury and damage to property, we recommend you hire a professional.... Check with your local council about any guidelines or required consent applications. Remember, your safety is important so contact a qualified (and insured) arborist or tree surgeon for advice if necessary. Have a qualified arborist inspect trees every 2-3yrs to identify any preventative action necessary. Root damage is a major cause of tree failure so take care when digging or excavating around trees. Remember to park your car away from trees if strong winds and severe storms are predicted. When planting trees and shrubs, consider the mature size of the tree and use this to guide the planting location. Select healthy (self-supporting, not girdled) specimens and use good techniques when planting. Speak with a trusted nursery or garden centre for more information. To learn more about preparing your home to reduce damage caused by severe storms, visit the NSW SES website: https://bit.ly/2JSrUyv If you need emergency assistance due to flood or storm damage, call NSW SES on 132 500. If life threatening, call Triple Zero (000). #stormseason2020 #storms #nswses
