05.01.2022 Black Lives Matter NSW Young Labor unequivocally stands with the Black Lives Matter movement. Police brutality is an unacceptable reality that our black brother...s and sisters deal with every day, and it needs to end. George Floyd was murdered at the hands of a white police officer. He was murdered at the hands of racism, of systematic oppression and discrimination. This is not just an ‘American’ issue. Australia has a shameful history of invasion and genocide that has led to the oppression of First Nations people. Police brutality is happening in our backyard. 432 Indigenous Australians have died in police custody since 1991. Australians need to act immediately to recognise the prominence of police brutality against First Nations people. We need systematic change, and we need it now. This organisation was founded on principles of egalitarianism and justice, and we are committed to fighting for the equality of people of colour. Below is a list of organisations that need support in fighting for Black Lives Matter.
