14.01.2022 Structure Fires! Cold Weather, are you ready? The Northern Tablelands Team has been called to 3 structure fires this week (one a day), resulting tragically in one fatality, two destroyed houses and one very lucky family with chimney damage. With the cold weather here its time to take those steps to prepare;... - Check your smoke alarms - Clean your chimney/flu or have it cleaned of last years soot - ensure areas around your heaters are clear of combustible material - make sure nothing can fall onto or next to your heater overnight Help your family and neighbours if you can, a community is made up of those within it. Stay warm and safe! NTT Team

14.01.2022 Several fires have started by machinery working in paddocks across the Northern Tablelands area over the last few days. With the warmer temperatures across the state, fires can easily be started by machinery such as slashers, rock rakes, headers, and other cultivating machinery. Property owners are urged to delay these works until the cooler part of the day or until these heatwave conditions end.

01.01.2022 MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER- NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK This week is National Volunteer Week (17-23 May), an opportunity for us to thank our volunteers for the contribution they make to the NSW RFS, and to their communities. I want to thank all of our 70,000 strong membership for their hard work and dedication. Our volunteers are all ages and come from all backgrounds and all play an important role in keeping NSW safe.... The past year has looked a bit different with fewer bush fires but more floods, disaster relief, and hazard reductions all while dealing with COVID-19. Our members are still out there 24/7 making a positive impact, not only protecting communities but also helping them prepare and reduce their risk of fire and other emergencies. This week across our social media platforms we will be telling the story of some of our volunteers, highlighting the great work being done across the state. I encourage you to follow along via our NSW RFS Facebook page. I wish you all the best and thank you once again. Rob Rogers AFSM Commissioner
