24.01.2022 Hi everyone, this weekend’s Gospel reading and Homily is from Fr Abel van der Veer OSA. We hear the well-known parable of the workers in the vineyard and the famous quote, thus the last will be first and the first last. Fr Abel reminds us to treat everyone equally and with respect as we don’t always know the burdens they carry. The homily concludes with the question, what song will you sing? A song of envy or a song of joy. A reminder that Bishop Anthony will be presiding at the 9am Mass at St Cecilia’s on Sunday 27 September. Please book at the Parish office or online via https://bishopanthonymass.eventbrite.com.au

21.01.2022 Hi everyone, the weekend’s homilist is Fr John Sullivan OSA. Fr John has changed it up a bit and reads and gives his homily on the 2nd Reading. It is a reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Philippians (2:1-11) that gives an insight into the very beginning of our Church and shows we still grapple with many of the same issues. Paul pleads with the fledgling Christian community at Philippi for there to be no competition among you, no conceit; but everybody is to be self-effacing. Always consider the other person to be better than yourself. There’s a challenge. Good luck!

20.01.2022 Help Adriana and the Augustinian Volunteers Australia (AVA) make a difference. If you can please sponsor our wonderful Adriana! Due to Covid-19 the Augustinian Volunteers have not been able to do their usual fundraising activities and this "Virtual" City2Surf will be their only fundraising activity for the year. AVA has trained volunteers from all walks of life to work collaboratively with Indigenous and Refugee Communities in need since 2008. They seek to model best pract...ice of community development by partnering with local organisations and attempting real, long term change on the ground. Your donation will: * support Youth who are highly at risk to help strengthen their self worth and success * help foster resilient and empower communities * help others who need a helping hand from our AVA volunteers to raise funds to support AVA programs If you would like to learn more about the Volunteers please see their website www.augustinianvolunteersaustralia.org See more

20.01.2022 A reminder that we will be celebrating our Youth Mass at 6pm at St Kieran’s Church this Sunday. There will be a special blessing for all our wonderful Mothers. The last two Youth Masses were wonderful occasions so please come along and join in. With current restrictions we won't be able to sing along however we will still have the pleasure of listening to our talented young musicians lead by Simon Hyland. What a great way to cap off Mother’s Day! Don't forget masks are again compulsory in Churches. Hopefully not for long.

17.01.2022 Hi everyone, for this week’s reading and Homily Fr Paul reads and focusses on the 2nd Reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Thessalonians. We hear how St Paul encouraged the community at Thessalonia to be the great example to all believers. Fr Paul tells us that in these times of global panic and distress our world is like that of the Thessalonians, in need of some living proof evident in the behaviour & attitudes of the disciples of Jesus, us! Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend.

14.01.2022 The Augustinian Formation Association (AFA) is holding a Fun Walk Fundraiser this Sunday 16 May and you are invited! The walk starts at 8am from Queenscliff Lagoon (near the playground) to Shelley Beach, Manly. Sunny weather is forecast so come along for a chat and a walk. If you can’t make it you can sponsor one of the seminarians or one of our wonderful Augustinian clergy. Text Honorine on 0416 042 316 or call the Parish office to register or sponsor.

13.01.2022 This weekend we hear the Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids from Matthew’s Gospel. Fr John asks us, will we be able to keep the flame of faith alive in our hearts when we grow weary? This is not always an easy thing to do however Fr John also reminds us that we all need help when our faith is put to the test and that we shape our own destiny. I can definitely recommend watching this Homily as a comforting alternative to 24/7 coverage of the US election!

08.01.2022 The Feast of Christ the King signals the end of Ordinary Time and the approach of Advent. Fr Dave reads for us the Parable of the Sheep and Goats from Matthew and in his Homily tells us that our human needs are aligned with our fears and to be awake to those that need our love those who hunger for a word of encouragement, thirst for friendship and comfort, the stranger needing to be welcomed or the one that needs forgiveness. Love is the heart of the matter. Peace be with you.

08.01.2022 In this week’s Gospel we hear Jesus’ commandment, love one another as I have loved you. Fr Dave tells us that Jesus’ love and friendship empowers us and that love is the best reason to do the things we do. We hear about unconditional love, the highest form of love, manifested when we do acts for those we love and expect nothing in return. Beautiful messages on this Mother’s Day weekend when we remember and give thanks for our mothers present in our lives or with God, close to us or far away.

07.01.2022 Hi everyone, this weekend’s Gospel reading and Homily is from Fr Dave Austin OSA. We hear the Parable of the Wedding Feast from the Gospel of Matthew and Fr Dave reminds us that everyone is welcome in God’s Kingdom however some are not ready to accept the invitation. Fr Dave asks us to ponder: Which excuse in your life do you need to let go of? Have you said yes to God’s invitation? Fr Dave also mentions Pope Francis’ latest encyclical Fratelli tutti, on Fraternity and Social Friendship. If you would like to read it here is the link http://www.vatican.va//papa-francesco_20201003_enciclica-f

06.01.2022 Happy 80th Birthday Fr Paul! Congratulations and thanks for all the wonderful things you do for our Parish. Yesterday the Parish staff and clergy gathered to help him celebrate

05.01.2022 Thank you to Fr Senan for this week’s Gospel reading and Homily. This weekend we hear another Parable from Matthew’s Gospel - The Parable of the Talents. The talents in the Parable are currency but they can represent the gifts given to each of us by God. Fr Senan tells us that it doesn’t matter what a person’s talents are, the important thing is that the talents are used. If you bury your talent you bury a part of yourself.

05.01.2022 Only 11 sleeps to go! Adriana is doing the City2Surf Virtual Walk on Sunday, 18 October where she will be walking from Dee Why to Manly and back to help raise money for Augustinian Volunteers Australia - a program that sponsors university students to work with indigenous and migrant communities. Please help by sponsoring Adriana if you are able to. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. You can donate by clicking on this link https://city2surf2020.everydayhero.com/au/adriana-b

04.01.2022 This week at North Harbour we held the Sacramental Program overview meetings for parents new to the program. Thank you to the parents that attended and to all the speakers (and for agreeing to be filmed!). We also hosted the Deanery Safeguarding Workshop where we looked at ways to improve and build on our Parish Safeguarding Plan.

02.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 we have not been able to gather as usual for the Parish Annual General Meeting. The Parish Pastoral Council was very keen to keep in contact with everyone so has produced a short video to accompany the written report. The video is a message to our Parish. It includes highlights from the year, a message from both Parish School Principals and a beautiful reflection from Fr Dave on the impact of the of the virus on our community and his hopes for our future. I... encourage you to have a look. Thank you to Ed Coney for his patience and creative input in producing the video. The link to the video is https://youtu.be/hrQaC29KzFY The written Report the written report can be found at https://www.northharbourcatholic.org.au//Parish_Annual_Rep See more

02.01.2022 Hi everyone, this weekend's readings and homily are from Fr Senan. We hear the 1st Reading from Isaiah and the Parable of the Tenants from Matthew's Gospel. Fr Senan explains how the Parable speaks to us about the patience of God. He tells us that God looks to us for the fruits of faith, love & obedience and expects that we will deliver forgiveness, mercy & justice.

01.01.2022 Thank you to Fr Peter Jones for our Gospel reading and homily this weekend. In this week’s Gospel we hear Jesus cleverly answer those who try to trick him with the words Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. As we continue to navigate our way through these unpredictable times and many of us face emotional and financial hardship, Fr Peter reminds us of the importance of personal relationships, to hold dear our friends, family and community.

01.01.2022 Thanks to Fr Abel for this week’s Homily. The Gospel this week is the beautiful Beatitudes. All Saints Day also falls on this Sunday, so we celebrate this special feast day as well. In his Homily Fr Abel tells us about the origin of All Saints Day and also shares with us the story of his mother a saint to him. It is always a privilege to hear someone’s personal story and I thank Fr Abel for sharing with us the story of his mother - a very special woman. All Saints and All Souls Days mark the beginning of November, the month when we follow the ancient Catholic tradition of remembering our departed loved ones.
