25.01.2022 Happy vet nurse day to our wonderful nurse team! Today’s a special day where the industry provides an opportunity to recognise the important and endless hard work, love and support our nurses give to our patients, clients and veterinary team. They are all wonderful at their job and truely care for each and every patient that walks through our door. If you’re visiting today, please don’t forget to let your pet give them some extra love & kisses and to our lovely nurses Teagan, Amy, Ellana, Cass, Kelly, Paige and Maddy we thank you today more than every other day for everything that you do

24.01.2022 Is your cat showing signs of stress during the current routine-changes? You would assume that most pets would enjoy having their people home more, but such a change in the household routine can actually be quite stressful for some of our feline friends. This change can result in stress related urinary tract issues, and the most obvious symptoms can include: -Straining to urinate or passing small amounts of urine more frequently... -Blood tinged urine -Urination in strange places outside of their litter box, such as in the bath or shower. -Over-grooming their genital area There are ways you can try to decrease your cats stress, such as: -Providing places to hide and escape from humans and other pets in the household -Ensuring multiple sources of water are available and in different types of bowls -Ensuring there are ample litter trays, the ideal amount being one per cat plus a spare. If your cat starts to show any of the above listed symptoms please contact your vet as soon as possible for an appointment. There can be other causes such as a urinary tract infection, bladder stones or even urinary tract obstruction also known as FLUTD, which is more common in male cats and can be FATAL if left untreated.

21.01.2022 With the weather cooling down we are seeing more pets struggling with arthritis. Over 20% of dogs will suffer from arthritis in their life and the cooler temperatures can aggravate stiff and sore joints causing more pain and inflammation. Even though arthritis is an on-going, incurable condition, it can be effectively managed with long-term pain-relief/anti-inflammatory options and supplements. Symptoms that your pet may be suffering from arthritis include: Limping/lameness... Vocalising when touched Becoming slow on walks and lagging behind Stiffness or pain when rising/laying down, or simply reluctance to rise Changes in personality or out of character aggression If you are worried your pet is feeling stiff and sore in the cooler months, call us on 0738862077 to book an appointment.
21.01.2022 When visiting our hospital please remember to adhere to social distancing rules as much as possible. We are still asking everyone to call upon arrival so we can manage the number of people in our waiting room. If you have been unwell please let our staff know on the phone, and we can work with you to ensure your pet receives the treatment they need. Thank you to all of our clients who have been understanding, patient and have followed these new rules. We truly appreciate it.
21.01.2022 Most of our grooming clients have met Erin, but if you are yet to meet our amazing groomer I have attached an introduction below! My name is Erin and I'm the dog groomer here at North Lakes Veterinary Hospital and I've been grooming for 12 years. I started in a busy salon in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast and fell in love with the job. In 2018 I moved to North Lakes with my family and have a White Swiss Shepherd named Kobe. In August 2018 I started working here at North L...akes Veterinary Hospital. A couple of my favourite things about my job is gaining the love and trust of your dog and getting to know all their different personalities. Erin truly works some magic with her grooming skills. If you would like to book an appointment she is available Tuesday - Friday. Please call 07 38862077 to make a booking.
20.01.2022 Heading into the warmer months, appointments to see our groomer Erin are filling up fast! She's currently booked up until October 13th. To avoid disappointment we do recommend re-booking your pets next appointment after their pamper session with Erin. We couldn't help but share just a few of the cuties she has done lately!
20.01.2022 Do you have a dog that likes chocolate??? Unfortunately chocolate can be highly toxic to dogs. Even a tiny amount of dark chocolate can be lethal to a small breed dog. Cats are even more susceptible than dogs (although they don't seem to enjoy eating chocolate as much as dogs do!)... As a rule, the darker & more bitter the chocolate, the more toxic it is (with raw cacao being the most toxic). Early/mild signs of toxicity include: - vomiting - diarrhoea - restlessness & hyperactivity (think caffeine overdose). This can progress in more serious cases to muscle tremors, hyperthermia, cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, coma and death... With most of us being in isolation, we probably have more chocolate than ever in our homes so ensure it is kept up high and well hidden! If your dog eats chocolate seek immediate veterinary advice. The simplest solution is to induce vomiting ASAP before any toxin is absorbed.
19.01.2022 Hydrobaths tomorrow! Our hydrobather Tahliah will be finishing earlier tomorrow at 11am. Hydrobaths will still be available tomorrow between 8am and 11am. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
16.01.2022 Phone line issues Due to Carona Virus we are asking people to call upon arrival, but we are aware people are experiencing difficulties in getting through on our phones. The mobile networks are being overloaded as most people are at home and using them, so please continue trying to call us, or wave down our receptionist from outside. ... We appreciate everyones patience and assistance during this time!
15.01.2022 Thanks to ol' Covid-19 a lot of people are home with their pets more than ever. This has resulted in a lot of upset tummies needing to visit us. Extra treats for our pets are okay, if they are included in their daily food allowance (ie if they are getting more snacks decrease their breakfast/dinner size), but human food that is rich in fat and sugar such as meat off-cuts, cheese and left-overs should be avoided as they can cause stomach pain, diarrhoea, vomiting and in severe cases Pancreatitis. If you are struggling at home with those ever watchful puppy-dog eyes surveying your every bite, you can feed healthy treats such as pieces of carrot, apple, peas, blue berries or even just pieces of kibble. That way everyone at home feels included and no one feels guilty for not sharing.
15.01.2022 Some cute kitties to start the weekend! Have you heard of all these breeds? There are a few in here that we have yet to meet in clinic!
15.01.2022 We were lucky enough to have two of the biggest, best boys in our hospital the other day! Wade a two year old Saint Bernard, and Yogi a four year old Dogue De Bordeaux became instant big-boy friends in our waiting room and kept the room feeling full with just the two of them! Both of them sitting above the 70kg mark means they are certainly two of our biggest patients, and also two of the sweetest and most affectionate!

13.01.2022 This gorgeous girl is Halie, who is a 14 year old Border Collie cross. This lady has just gone through an extremely big procedure in which she had her leg amputated! Halie had a tumour growing on her right front leg, which suddenly started to grow in size and soon became uncomfortably large. Unfortunately the tumour was quite invasive and required her limb to be amputated in order to completely remove the tumour. As Halie was such a bright and bubbly girl who would cope wel...l with surgery, and after ensuring with radiographs that the tumour had not spread, surgery was decided as the best option. Halie has since had surgery with Dr Renee, and has bounced back like she has always had three legs! For an older lady she has coped extremely well with both the long anaesthetic procedure and in learning to maneuver herself around on one less limb. We are so proud of Halie and how well she has recovered! See more
13.01.2022 Is your pets heartworm prevention up to date? Unfortunately we are starting to see an increasing amount of heartworm positive pets around this area, which is a little scary! Heartworm is spread via mosquitoes and can be a serious, expensive issue to treat. There are multiple products available to prevent heartworm, ranging from an annual injection, to a monthly tasty chew or topical spot-on. If you are unsure of your pets heartworm status we can perform a simple blood test to check, with an answer in ten minutes. For more information feel free to call us on 07 38862077.
12.01.2022 The love between pets and children can sure pull on the heart strings!

11.01.2022 Are you keeping your pet warm and snuggly this Winter? During the cooler months simply moving and rising can be hard for our senior pets Providing them with a warm, comfortable bed off the floor and away from drafts can make all the difference to their comfort level. If your pet will tolerate it, you could also try a warm jacket/jumper. Please share photos of your pets staying warm this Winter in the comments!
11.01.2022 Easter Public Holidays We would like to advise all of our valued clients that we will be closed the following dates over Easter. Friday, 10th April... 10.01.2022 PARVOVIRUS Unfortunately, we have seen a few Parvovirus cases in the area. Parvovirus is a VERY serious illness and has a scarily high fatality rate of over 80% for puppies who are not vaccinated. Parvovirus infection is a viral illness that causes vomiting, haemmorrhagic/bloody diarrhoea, lethargy and weight loss in dogs and is an illness generally seen in young puppies aged between six weeks and six months.... Treatment is highly intensive supportive care including Intravenous fluids, numerous medications, syringe feeding etc and even with such treatment it can be fatal. Parvo is also highly infectious and can be spread via peoples shoes or via faeces from dogs infected with the virus. The virus can then live in the ground for 12 months or longer, which means it can be picked up from most areas that are visited by dogs (think dog friendly beaches, dog parks etc). Vaccination is still the most effective method of preventing the lethal virus and is highly effective. Its important to remember dogs require repeat vaccination to maintain immunity. If you have any questions or concerns regarding Parvovirus please contact us on (07)38862077.
10.01.2022 What a wonderful story
10.01.2022 Does your pet need a tidy up or full groom done? Our lovely groomer Erin has some grooming spots available over the coming weeks. As it is getting cooler we can do a full groom, maintenance groom or even just a bath & blow dry to keep your furry friend fresh & warm during the chilly months. Please call 38862077 to make an appointment for you pooch's next pamper session! Erin accepts breeds of all sizes so no excuses :)
10.01.2022 This handsome fellow is Diesel. Diesel is a 13 year old Dachshund who visited us recently to have a dental procedure done by Dr Tracey. Diesel had his teeth scaled and polished, and also had one extraction of his upper pre-molar as it was fractured (dental-ray photo attached to show fracture present in the tooth). Fractures are quite common in dogs and can occur for various reasons, such as chewing hard toys, bones or rocks or from external trauma such as hitting their face ...on something hard. Unfortunately, our pets hide their pain quite well and sometimes dental pain can be overlooked which is why regular dental check's are important. Luckily for Diesel, his parents immediately noticed his discomfort and had him booked in for a dental. Mr Diesel had a bit of a rough recovery, but is now doing very well at home and feeling much better without his fractured tooth!
09.01.2022 Since Covid-19 prevents us from physically going shopping, we can still shop online! Then we have the added fun part of receiving mail. I'm sure most of us would appreciate this cute package arriving at our front door
09.01.2022 **REUNITED** Is anyone missing their little fur baby? Proof of ownership is required upon collection if he is yours.
09.01.2022 **SATURDAY HYDROBATHING** Here we have our lovely Hydrobather, Tahlias doggo praising the doggy gods that hydrobathing is back on as of this Saturday the 30th! He cannot wait to get his warm bath including massages and towel or blow dry done for only 10-$15! All you need to do is sit back and relax whilst your pooch enjoys their quick and convenient pamper session. To fit in with COVID-19 social distancing rules, we would appreciate if our lovely pet owners can wait in the seated areas whilst Tahlia baths your fur-friend. Please call when you arrive at the hospital so one of our friendly nurses can pop out to you with your hydrobathing token to give to Tahlia
09.01.2022 Ragnar, an 8 month old Griffon Bruxellois, visited us recently for his desexing. Being a breed we don't often see, we were all a little excited to meet him and have a cuddle (or six). He was a true warrior for his desexing and his pre-anaesthetic blood testing, recovering from his anaesthetic like nothing had happened.
08.01.2022 Have you checked your pets microchip details recently? With the looming storm season, it is vital that your pets microchip details are correct. Storms can be super scary to our pets and can heighten the chance of pets escaping or simply trying to outrun the storm. Having correct microchip details will ensure you can be easily contacted, and your pet can be quickly reunited with you if the worst occurs and they do escape. If you are unsure of which company your pets' microch...ip is registered to you can find out at www.petaddress.com.au If your pet can come up from NSW, it is important to ensure they have been registered to a QLD microchip database as NSW microchip details cannot be easily accessed.
08.01.2022 This adorable man is Mr Sushi, a three year old Tonkinese, who was in to have a dental scale and polish under a general anaesthetic. Mr Sushi was so charming, and his little teeth cleaned up pearly white. Our pets teeth benefit from a regular scale and polish as it ensures we can check each tooth for pocketing around the roots or any hidden issues, and as we remove any tartar it decreases the bacterial burden in the mouth. Mr Sushi has since recovered well from his anaesthetic.
08.01.2022 Do you have a special way to ask your dog if they want a W-A-L-K? We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

07.01.2022 Frida, a 9 month old Italian Greyhound visited us recently for desexing. Frida was a little nervous, but patiently tolerated all of our poking and prodding, and our numerous cuddles. Nurse Amy had the privilege of assisting with her induction and nursing her under the anaesthetic, whilst Dr Elena performed surgery. She recovered well from her anaesthetic and was the perfect little lady here with us for the day!

06.01.2022 Did you know that more than 80% of dogs and cats over the age of 4 have some form of periodontal disease? There are many signs that can indicate your pet is suffering from dental disease such as: -Halitosis (Bad breath)... -Yellow/brown tartar build up on the teeth -Dribbling or holding mouth open -Signs of pain in the mouth such as struggling to eat, pawing at their mouth or eating differently such as swallowing biscuits whole or avoiding eating dry biscuits. -Loose/mobile teeth or tooth loss If you think your pet is showing any of the above listed signs, give us a call and book in for a free dental check with one of our vets. They can then advise if they need any treatment, and if so, what treatment is needed to prevent increased severity of the dental disease and further issues.
05.01.2022 WARNING: TICKS We have seen a surge in paralysis tick cases over the past few weeks, and with the warm weather fast approaching ticks will be out in force! Symptoms that may be seen if your pet has a tick include: ... Wobbly gait/loss of function in their hind legs Change in voice/bark/breathing issues Lethargy Loss of appetite/vomiting Tick treatment needs to be started sooner rather than later as without treatment, your pet will become rapidly worse. We recommend using a tick preventative all year round and performing thorough tick searches daily by working your fingers through your pets entire coat, paying special attention to their eyes, lips and mouth. If in doubt call us on 0738862077 as a prompt vet check is always the safest option.
05.01.2022 Storm warning There are some bad storms predicted for today. Please ensure your pets are kept in a safe area such as inside your home and out of harms way.
04.01.2022 In early preparation for Christmas, here is a video on how to (safely) wrap your cats
03.01.2022 We recently had a very special little unicorn visit us This special lady is Emmy, who is a 11 year old Shih Tzu and was in for a dental procedure with Dr Tracey. She had her little teeth scaled and polish, and also had to have some teeth extracted. She woke up so well after her anaesthetic, although she was a little groggy at first, but has since recovered well at home. We had to share her little face with you all as she was the talk of the clinic in her gorgeous little outfit!

01.01.2022 Update regarding Pet treats health alert warning! Previously our page posted about a health warning regarding pet health treats. We would like to advise our clients of the AVA warning which was written on the 25th of october 2019. Although this information is from 11 months ago & the possibility of toxicity is quite low by now, we felt a gentle friendly reminder was still important to be aware. We apologize in advance for any worry this may have caused but hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
