25.01.2022 Like other farmers in the region, the Northparkes harvest is well underway. Our canola area is finished and our wheat is nearly done with pleasing results. Our chickpea crop will also be harvested shortly. As many would know, very few harvests seem to go by without dealing with weather or interruptions and 2020 was no different, with hail and rain influencing results.

19.01.2022 Our farming operations have been successfully operating for over 20 years. This year, we made the decision to pursue a share farming model that would allow us to focus our resources on core business, including the execution of key major capital projects, while still maintaining a farming presence in the community and continuing sustainable farming practices. We are pleased to announce that we have entered into a share farming arrangement with the Wright Family Partnership. Read more here: http://www.northparkes.com/n/northparkes-farming-operations

18.01.2022 Today we stopped to remember the tragic air blast event that claimed the lives of four people on 24 November 1999. Ross Bodkin, Michael House, Stuart Osman and Colin Lloyd-Jones were killed when millions of tonnes of ore and earth suddenly collapsed. Every year we remember them at a ceremony at a memorial onsite where members of our team gather to speak and lay flowers in their memory, as well as in Parkes at a memorial in town. This tragic event in our history has been shared with the mining industry to ensure we learn from the past to prevent this ever happening again.

14.01.2022 In May, we planted barley into a 78 hectare area of Tailings Storage Facility 2 (TSF2) to mitigate dust lift-off. After a slow start, the barley has responded to the favourable season, providing valuable ground cover and wind erosion protection. We expect this residue to help mitigate dust lift-off from these areas for the next 18-24 months. The Environment & Farms team is also experimenting with a number of native species, having hand seeded trials across select areas of TSF2. It is anticipated that these species will self-regenerate from one season to the next, again with the desired outcome of greater ground cover reducing dust-lift.
