15.02.2022 COVID-Safe Outdoor Vaccination Clinic: What fantastic progress the NSW community has made so far in the uptake of COVID-19 vaccination! To date (26/09/2021), 85.2% of people >16yrs in NSW have had 1 dose, and 59.2% have had 2 doses. Thank you to those in the community who have come to receive one of the 7500 vaccinations given at our clinic so far.... In order to help those in the community who remain concerned about being vaccinated indoors with other people, we have now set up our COVID-Safe Outdoor Vaccination Clinic - just in time for Spring! Some of our clinics will be scheduled completely outdoors (weather permitting ), but if you prefer to be vaccinated indoors instead (or vice versa), please speak to our friendly receptionists. We hope this will help keep the vaccination rate in NSW going onwards and upwards! Let's do this, so we can all get back to doing the things we love. https://www.northrydemedicalcentre.com.au/book-online/

09.02.2022 A shout-out to our fantastic team of medical receptionists and nurses! From the start of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, to the sick-patient screening guidelines, to the ups and downs of the community's emotions, and now through the Vaccination roll-out and its frequently-changing guidelines, they have worked non-stop, diligently and professionally, and taken it all in their stride! They are the true frontline, and are playing a key role in moving our nation forward! https://theconversation.com/be-kind-gp-receptionists-are-ta

30.01.2022 19th May is World Family Doctor Day, and on this day our practice celebrates the unique relationship we enjoy with each of our patients. Over the past year, General Practices throughout Australia, just like health systems all over the world, have been tested like never before. However with the unwavering support of our patient community, and with the trust that you placed in our doctor-patient relationship, our practice strives harder each and every day to learn how better to serve our patient community. 2021 has been designated by the WHO as the International Year of Health and Care Workers. However we don't want to celebrate us. We want to celebrate the unique relationship that a life-long GP has with their patient. So thank you to all our patient community, we couldn't have done it without you #WorldFamilyDoctorDay #YourGP

25.01.2022 We’re very excited to introduce a new GP who has joined the practice, Dr Eun-Ae Cho. Having graduated Medicine with Honours then undertaking further work and studies in post-graduate courses including Masters and PhD programs, she brings a wealth of experience covering many different facets of medicine. This pursuit of academic and clinical excellence, together with her caring and compassionate nature, is what makes her an excellent general practitioner. She continues to work... as a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney and Westmead Hospital as part of her passion for medical education. It’s an honour to have her in the General Practice community, and an absolute privilege for our practice and patients to gain an excellent doctor. Book an appointment now, and she could become you and your family’s regular GP! Read her profile here: http://www.northrydemedicalcentre.com.au/dr-eun-ae-cho/ See more

21.01.2022 "Should I get the Flu vax NOW or LATER?" This is a question that we are increasingly being asked at the moment, especially given the large amount of advertising for cheap or "free" influenza vaccines already being promoted. Some of the recent expert evidence is that immunity after the flu vax may only last approx 4 months, and given that the influenza season typically goes from July to September/October (see attached graph from NSW Health), now may be too EARLY to be doing th...e flu vax for a lot of people! So even though we also currently have stock of the private flu vax ready to go, we are advising a lot of people to DELAY getting the flu vax until late April/May to make it more effective. Also, ALL children from 6 months to 5 years of age will receive a FREE flu vax this year, no matter which GP you go to. This is being provided by the NSW Government. Also, there are different types for different ages. For example, people over 65 yrs old will be receiving a different, high-dose flu vax for the first time this year for better efficacy. This vaccine is NOT yet available. Also, some people need 2 doses of the flu vax, not one. For example children under 9 yrs age who have not had 2 doses in the same year before, need to have 2 doses this year. It is important to get it done right. One size does not fit all! So before you rush out to get your flu vax, seek your regular GP's professional advice first about WHICH flu vax is right for you, HOW MANY you need, and what the best TIMING is for you! NOW OR LATER? AMA media statement: http://www.abc.net.au//flu-vaccines-should-be-dela/9585092

20.01.2022 New Doctors: We understand how difficult it can be for patients to find the right doctor, at the right time when you need them. That's why we're excited to share the news that 2 more experienced Specialist GPs have started consulting at North Ryde Medical Centre: Dr Genevieve Tse and Dr Josephine Gillespie. They are both very dedicated, professional, and warm-hearted GPs, and I'm sure our local community will be blessed by them just as much as their previous patient communiti...es were. Please have a read of their profiles on our website: https://www.northrydemedicalcentre.com.au/dr-genevieve-tse/ https://www.northrydemedicalcentre.com.au/dr-josephine-gil/ We're also happy to congratulate Dr Louisa Zhang (who has been with us since August 2020 as a GP Registrar), as she has now completed all her final GP specialist training and examinations, and has chosen to stay on and continue practising at North Ryde Medical Centre. Look out for the "FRACGP" to be added to her qualifications once it is ratified by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. In addition, Dr Sandhya Yarlagadda is a new full-time GP Registrar who has already been very warmly received by our practice community over the past month. As a GP Registrar, she is a fully-qualified doctor, and is currently in the later stages of the GP speciality training program under the mentorship of Dr Owen and Dr Helen. Get in to see the doctors now for a health check before the winter rush and vaccinations for COVID & Flu begin shortly! https://www.northrydemedicalcentre.com.au/book-online/

20.01.2022 A big high-five to all the kids at St John's Preschool who came for an excursion today to North Ryde Medical Centre! All the clever and well-behaved kids learnt how to use a stethoscope, check blood pressure, give (blunt) injections, put on bandages, read X-rays, measure height and weight, and maintain good hygiene practices! Give it a few years, and we might have 40 bright, young doctors joining our team, so you'll never have to wait to get in to see a doctor! :)

17.01.2022 PHONE CONSULTATIONS: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our practice has been working extremely hard behind the scenes to protect our patient community, and also protect our staff so we can continue to provide a vital service to our patients. In order to minimise the spread of infection in the community, we are encouraging the use of PHONE CONSULTATIONS (Telehealth), for either COVID or non-COVID-related matters.... Phone consults will be Medicare Bulk-Billed for the following patients: (a) Diagnosed with COVID-19, or (b) In home isolation as advised by a Govt authority or medical practitioner, in accordance with AHPPC guidelines, or (c) Is a susceptible patient, and has been seen at our practice in the past 12 months: (i) 70yrs age or above (ii) 50yrs age or above and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (iii) Pregnant (iv) Parent of a child under 12 months age (v) Person under treatment for a chronic health condition or immune compromised (d) the person meets the current national triage protocol criteria for suspected COVID-19 infection All other patients who do NOT meet the above Medicare criteria can also book for a Phone consult, but this is NOT Medicare rebatable. In order to help the community deal with COVID-19 in these difficult times, our practice will temporarily reduce the fee to $40.00 (from usual fee $83.00 for non-Medicare-rebatable consults), for a standard phone consult <15mins. If you wish to attend the practice instead, and have ANY symptoms of illness (cold/flu/fever), or any recent overseas travel, or any contact with a known COVID-19 case, then please PHONE the practice when you arrive in the car park. The doctor will call you when ready to discuss the history. If the Doctor calls you into their consult room for an examination, please WEAR A FACEMASK when you enter the practice. Alternatively, if you are feeling short of breath or unwell, please go to your local hospital emergency department.
