20.01.2022 An interesting story regarding further research and development into footwear to provide greater stability for older people and hence reduce the incidence of falls. As a statistic from this story "1 in 3 people aged 65 and over sustain falls, with 15% resulting in serious injury. Falls are the leading cause of injury related hospital admissions and mortality in older people" https://www.9news.com.au//2fa86f83-2203-460a-b9b1-5ccc543f

12.01.2022 HOW CAN I ACCESS AGED CARE IN THE HOME? Whilst some individuals may be able to receive sufficient aged care support to stay in the home via their partner, carer, relatives or friends or a combination of these, it may become necessary to access assistance from outside the home. External aged care support may be accessed through:... *The local community, who for example may provide services such as social support, community transport or Meals on Wheels. *A private care arrangement direct with a care provider(s). Such an arrangement would not however be government subsidised. *The Commonwealth Home Support Program, Veterans Home Care Program if a DVA recipient or via a Commonwealth Home Care Package. In some cases, a combination of these services can be arranged to maximise support to remain living at home. The Commonwealth Home Support Program provides entry level help in the community via social support programs and transport and in the home through the provision of services such as domestic assistance, personal care and home maintenance and modification. It is intended for seniors who require a basic level of assistance in the short term or an ongoing basis. Recipients must be aged 65 and over (or over 50 if Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander) and a face-to-face assessment is required by the Regional Assessment Team to determine the types of help required, how much is needed and the likely costs. Whilst the program is funded by the government, generally, a subsidised fee is payable for each service. The Veterans Home Care Program similarly provides a basic level of care for eligible veterans to help them remain independent at home. Services include domestic help, personal care, respite care and safety related home and garden maintenance. Assessment must be made through the VHC Assessment Agency. We will further discuss Home Care Packages in our next blog. North Shore Retirement and Aged Care Consulting can assist you in navigating your in-home care options based on your individual needs and eligibility. This may be of particular relevance for those waiting for the approval of a Home Care Package.
