Intravenous sedation, also known as monitored anesthesia care or "twilight sleep," is a type of anesthesia that relaxes a patient through an intravenous (IV) placed in a vein. There will be a recovery period of 20 - 30 minutes before you are discharged into the care of your escort. The sedative effect of the drugs will gradually wear off during the course of the day. Most patients are well enough to return to their normal activities within 24 hours depending on the nature of their work. We have anaesthetists in at the practice a couple of times a month.
