25.01.2022 Back Pack tips Australian children are at risk of spinal damage because of incorrectly packed and fitted school backpacks. Adult back pain and spinal disorders may stem from childhood activities including carrying a heavily loaded backpack for twelve years or more of schooling. Many of the current bags children are using may be fashionable, but unless they allow for even distribution across the back, they can cause pain.... School can be a challenging time for children, so ensuring they are as comfortable as possible is important to their physical and mental development. According to an international study, daily backpack carrying is a frequent cause of discomfort for school children. School backpacks were felt to be heavy by 79.1% of children, to cause fatigue by 65.7%, and to cause back pain by 46.1%. Chiropractors are uniquely positioned to educate parents, teachers and students about spinal health care through their minimum five years university training. Each week, there are over 215,000 visits to Australian chiropractors for a broad range of reasons. Chiropractic care has been proven to be effective, and can restore correct function and relieve pain symptoms associated with the carrying of heavy backpacks. Chiropractic possesses an excellent safety record, and through their five year university training, chiropractors are the spinal health experts.

25.01.2022 Natalie and Luke will be away from the clinic from Thursday 14/11/19 -Monday 18/11/19 while they attend a conference. What will they be learning??? They are doing a course called Active Release Technique (ART)... ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system that is movement based. The technique is used to treat problems that involve the muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. The main goal is to reestablish proper motion between muscles and fascia while reducing fibrous adhesions. Ultimately myofascial (muscle and fascia) and neural (nerves) glide is reestablished allowing for proper function. The technique can be used on patients with acute, chronic, overuse, repetitive strain injuries and postoperative cases of all types. How is ART different from other soft tissue techniques? ART uses movement of the patient to create tension on scar tissue. Every session combines an examination and treatment, which targets the soft tissue that has been injured. ART treats specific muscles, which target the exact area of the scar within each tissue. How does overuse/ repetitive stress cause scar tissue? Overuse or repetitive stress increases the tension in the tissues of the body. Chronic tension applied to the tissue decreases the blood supply, causing the body to form adhesions. (Examples of repetitive stress could be; poor posture, improper exercise form, athletic pursuits, improper ergonomic at the work place.)

23.01.2022 Wishing all our patients a happy Easter. We are CLOSED until 7am Tuesday 14th April. For appointments Call: 0406 010 157 Email: [email protected] Web: www.northsidechiropracticclinic.com.au

23.01.2022 DONT LET SCHOOL BE A PAIN IN THE BACK As parents begin preparations to send children back to school, Australian chiropractors would like to remind them that heavy, poorly fitted and packed backpacks may lead to spinal health problems in children. Spinal health problems can often go unnoticed. However, poor posture, back pain or growing pains need not become an accepted part of everyday life for your child. When choosing a backpack for your child, choose one that allows for... even distribution of weight across the back. Otherwise the backpack can place unhealthy stress on a childs spine. School can be a challenging time for any child, so ensuring they are as comfortable as possible is important for their physical and mental development. Despite the increased use of technology in schools, schoolchildren still overload their backpacks with textbooks, sports and other gear or simply do not wear them correctly. Five simple tips for wearing a backpack: 1. Pack the heaviest items closest to the spine 2. Make sure to do all the zips up 3. Secure the sternum, waist and compression straps 4. Always use both shoulder straps 5. Dont wear the backpack below the hollow of the lower back There are up to 300,000 patient visits to Australian chiropractors each week. Chiropractic is a low risk profession with an enviable safety record in Australia, a result of evidence based care delivered by five year university educated healthcare professionals.

22.01.2022 GOOD NEWS!!!!! Dark chocolate is loaded with nutrients that can positively affect your health. Made from the seed of the cocoa tree, it is one of the best sources of antioxidants on the planet. Studies show that dark chocolate (not the sugary stuff) can improve health;... 1. Dark Chocolate is Very Nutritious 2. Dark Chocolate is a Powerful Source of Antioxidants 3. Dark Chocolate May Improve Blood Flow & Lower Blood Pressure 4. Dark Chocolate Raises HDL and Protects LDL Against Oxidation 5. Dark Chocolate May Lower The Risk of Cardiovascular Disease 6. Dark Chocolate May Improve Brain Function Take Home Message There is considerable evidence that cocoa can provide powerful health benefits, being especially protective against cardiovascular disease. But of course, this doesnt mean people should go all out and consume lots of chocolate every day. It is still loaded with calories and easy to overeat on. Dark chocolates often contain some sugar, but the amounts are usually small and the darker the chocolate, the less sugar it will contain. There are of course other benefits to chocolate that I have not mentioned such as the awesome taste. Everyone knows Natalie doesnt need a good excuse to eat chocolate!!!! Enjoy your Easter

12.01.2022 Happy New Year from Northside Chiropractic Clinic With the New Year off to a brand new beginning, its a great time to start over. Set new goals. Break bad habits. Resolve to become healthier. If youre thinking about starting a fitness program, losing some weight, eating a better diet, or improving some other behaviour, remember your spine! ... A healthy spine and nervous system should be the starting point of any New Years resolution for better health. Improving your spinal health is important to us and we hope that you will make it a priority. The best way to do this is to have regular Chiropractic treatments. Sometimes we only think about adjustments when you are in pain, regular treatments can help to avoid pain. Chiropractic adjustments improve overall health because they enhance the functioning of the nervous system. You can think about your nervous system as the bodys highway. Nerves stretch into every square inch of your body, communicating vital information throughout the system. Indeed, the nervous system (including the brain) is the bodys command structure; it both takes in information and provides appropriate responses. As you can imagine, if the nervous system is not functioning well, there are often flow on effects on the performance of other body systems. Some new years resolutions that will help you to have a healthy spine along with regular visits to your chiropractor are getting adequate sleep, being active, stretching, having an ergonomic work environment and drinking plenty of water. To get in the routine of having regular treatments why not schedule several appointments in advance and stick to your commitment to improve the health or your spine. To make an appointment phone 0406 010 157 or book online via our website or our facebook page.

01.01.2022 Is your phone being a pain in the neck? There is no denying that technology has transformed the way we live, but we are spending more and more time glued to our... mobile devices. Australians spend 10 hours and 24 minutes on average engaging with their mobile devices every day.1 Within five minutes of waking up in the morning 35% of us check our phones, and 70% use phones during mealtimes with family and friends.2 This excessive reliance on digital devices is taking a toll on our bodies. Looking down hunched over mobile devices puts excessive strain on the neck which can cause neck pain. This is a very common complaint in fact, the chance that you will have neck pain at some point in your lifetime is nearly 50% More and more Australians are suffering from Text Neck this refers to neck pain and damage from looking down at mobile devices for prolonged periods. Staring down at your phone can put immense pressure on your neck and spine. There is no need to shun all technology. Changing a few habits can make a gig difference in improving your spinal health and overall wellbeing. Here are some tips to help avoid text neck and other spinal health issues resulting from poor posture and excessive use of mobile devices: Change the way you hold your phone bring the screen to eye level so your head is not slouched forward. This way you dont have to be in a forward-head posture for long periods of time. Take regular breaks from mobile devices. For example, dont check your phone while commuting. Get social with family or friends. Have a no phone policy during dinner. Youll enjoy your meal even more without the distraction! Chiro Can Help Stretching can help alleviate neck pain an discomfort caused by text neck. Seek advice from your local CAA chiropractor or other healthcare professional about which stretching exercises are suitable for you. Depending on your circumstances, your chiropractor may suggest a variety of techniques to help improve range of motion and function and will develop a program of care that may combine more than one type of treatment, depending on your needs. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, a care plan may include mobilisation, massage, rehabilitative exercise, as well as dietary and lifestyle advice. Visit your local CAA chiropractor for more information on how they can help improve your quality of life. For more information on maintaining a healthy spine, please visit the website of the Chiropractors Association of Australia (CAA) at www.chiropractors.asn.au
