24.01.2022 By popular demand, Susan Deas Music returns to NOSG for a Zoom talk on Monday 2 November at 10 am on The Romantic Period in Music. Composers in nineteenth century Europe wrote some of the most beautiful and dramatic of all classical music. Examining the music of the Romantic period in its historical and social context, we look at the works of composers such as Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert, Liszt, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Tchaikovsky. All members will receive a Zoom invitation before Monday.

20.01.2022 Great news for Northside Opera - Susan Deas Music makes a welcome return to NOSG for a Zoom talk on Monday 12 October at 10 am on Classical Music. So, what makes music of the Classical era so wonderful? Eighteenth century composers believed that music should be appreciated by all, regardless of class or education. Little wonder then that the music of this period, composed by such greats as Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, is so popular. This lecture explores the music of the Classical period, what its composers were trying to achieve, and what gives it such great beauty and elegance. All members will receive a Zoom invitation before Monday.

19.01.2022 Such an easy easy opera for anyone to enjoy. Tune after tune non-stop. A fun production with the late John Del Carlo (snippet: https://youtu.be/Jafe4AmIvBU?t=126) in the title role. Theres no fool like an old fool (dont we all know it!). Dad would always muse: Povero Gaetano in loving affection for Donizetti.... This piece composed in 1843 - and from wiki: By 1843, Donizetti was exhibiting symptoms of syphilis and probable bipolar disorder: "the inner man was broken, sad, and incurably sick", states Allitt. Ashbrook observes that the preoccupation with work which obsessed Donizetti in the last months of 1842 and throughout 1843 "suggests that he recognised what was wrong with him and that he wanted to compose as much as he could while he was still able". A touching fun-filled opera well recommended in memory of him.

18.01.2022 Nothing like the slick One World with all the high end in-house studios of the superstars. Pretty standard mikes on the end of some questionable lines - and their voices blow out the sonics on this set up - BUT it's brilliant for the genuine efforts and camaraderie in support of performing artists and the Met. The 'live' orchestra doing the Cavalleria intermesso and DiDonato's Ombra Mai fu highlights so far.. 15.01.2022 If you saw last nights Macbeth - youll know some of these MET productions are excellent. While not intending to watch it (after several nights getting my opera fill), once commenced it was gripping and could not leave it. Tonight - another one to enjoy - and just look at that cast!
