23.01.2022 Each morning, we have a child sign in area where the children are encouraged to sign themselves in, practicing name recognition and writing skills. Some of the children have started not only recognising and writing their own names, but want to write their friends names as well. To extend on this, we had the whiteboards out for the children to continue to practice writing their friends names.

20.01.2022 To start the year off, we have begun our ‘Belonging, Being, Becoming’ topic. To kick start this learning topic, we begun on the focus topic of ‘Belonging’. This involves learning all about us, including our families! We have held multiple group times for this topic. One of the group times begun with a story called ‘The Big Book of Families’ by Mary Hoffman. This book discussed how all families are different and what makes them different. The topics in the book included family... dynamics, different parents or guardians, food, celebrations, jobs, houses, holidays, clothes and pets. After reading the story, the children participated in a discussion which allowed them to have a better understanding of what makes families different and understand that even though families might all look different, they are all just as special as each other! The children then made their own houses with paper and crayons. The children then lifted the flaps to draw their families inside. We then viewed all of the houses together to look at each child’s family dynamic! See more

19.01.2022 As the year is coming to a close and we are getting ready to say goodbye to our school leavers, we can’t help but reminisce on all the fun times we’ve had. We have seen each new accomplishment, watched you learn and grow, comforted your tears and shared many laughs. Some of the memories we have made together will be cherished forever. We are so proud of you all and will really miss seeing your smiling faces every day!

17.01.2022 Here are some drawings of our dads that we made to stick on our hand painted coasters for our fathers day presents. We hope all of the dads had a great Fathers Day on Sunday!

13.01.2022 Cupcake week was very successful! We raised a total of $200 for the RSPCA to fight against animal cruelty. Our little bakers made delicious treats including chocolate cupcakes, chocolate strawberries, iced biscuits, fruit skewers and fairy bread. The kids really enjoyed making these treats but they definitely enjoyed eating them more!

13.01.2022 Our Northside Affirmation Station is now up and in full swing! We have been inviting the families to read out the affirmations with their child on arrival and have had numerous group times where we have read out the affirmations to the children, encouraging them to say the affirmations that resonates with them. Today, the children said: I am strong I am brave I am loved I am an artist I am happy I am an inventor because I am smart I am good & I am a good frien...d We believe affirmations are so important as they can assist with children’s emotional well-being and anxiety, enhance children’s self-esteem, confidence and positive self-talk, develop resilience and encourage perseverance. We are going to be incorporating this into our daily routine

12.01.2022 This week at Northside, we have been having discussions about how some children around the world are not as fortunate as us. To demonstrate the importance of giving to others, Miss Eloise asked the children if they would like to participate in a project called Operation Christmas Child. This is a project created by an organisation called Samaritan’s Purse which sends shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in developing countries for Christmas. The children took turns picking out items including stationary, hygiene products, toys, clothing and school supplies for a preschool aged boy or girl. Over this week the children helped Miss Eloise fill 25 shoeboxes which will go to 25 children overseas who are less fortunate than us, providing them with a box of happiness this Christmas!

12.01.2022 Animals are such a big interest at Northside, so we have decided to focus on this as a learning topic. Yesterday, Miss Eloise held a group time about the diets of various animals, teaching the children the terms Carnivore, Herbivore and Omnivore. The children took turns identifying and categorising animals into these 3 groups based on what they eat. This morning, a few of the children went over to the drawing table and started talking about yesterdays group time and decided to draw some of the animals they had identified. We will continue learning about various animals and their diets and their habitats over the next few weeks.

12.01.2022 Today we held a group time and read the story Just The Way We Are. This story reinforces the notion, to children of all ages and backgrounds, that they are ‘normal’ no matter what their family situation may be like. The children were then encouraged to think about and draw their own families for our Northside family tree! We will be focusing more on this over the next few weeks.

10.01.2022 This year the Northside team have been running the phonics based program for both the Hungry Caterpillars and Rainbow Fish children. The sounds in this literacy program are taught in a specific order which enables children to begin building words as early as possible. During our morning welcome, we introduce the new letter of the week and then read our letter story. We then encourage the children to make the letter sound and sing our special letter song. The children are then encouraged to think of a word starting with this letter to transition to morning tea time. We all love this phonics program and continue to come up with words that amaze the teachers!!

09.01.2022 The Northside Team brushed up on their first aid, CPR and asthma and anaphylaxis training on the weekend! The team learnt invaluable skills and as you can see from the video, we passed with flying colours.

08.01.2022 Today is the first day of our 2 week school holiday program at Northside. To kick off the program, the children participated in Animal day. The children were very excited to dress up as their favourite animal and Miss Eloise got creative with the face paint. We are all looking forward to partaking in the other fun days planned!

07.01.2022 As the children really enjoyed cooking during cupcake week, we decided to make a cooking corner/cafe to extend this interest. This week, the children have been very busy in this corner, preparing different foods and drinks for both their friends and teachers. Engaging in this type of role play not only gives the children the opportunity to imitate situations that they are familiar with but to also create imaginative scenarios.

05.01.2022 This definitely applies here at Northside

03.01.2022 There has been an Uno craze at Northside! Following on from our games day during the school holidays, the children have loved playing Uno over the past few weeks. This game has several developmental benefits including: *Strengthening fine motor skills (through holding the Uno cards) *Numbers and colour recognition... *Matching *Counting *Social interaction (verbal directions and turn taking) *Strategy (thinking about the best way to win and preventing others from winning) This game wasn't only enjoyed by the children as the teachers also showed their competitive side!

02.01.2022 The girls decided the teachers should be rainbow animals too
