22.01.2022 Tips for Starting the School Year Right Most children love school and are not at all phased by the first day of school. However, for others, the start of the new school year can be a time filled with anxiety and stress. Below are tips for making the transition into the new school year as smooth and stress-free as possible for your child. For young children and children enrolling at a new school, ensure they are familiar with the layout of the school the location of their c...lassroom, toilets, and office. Often children are anxious about small things like not knowing where the toilets are located. Try to arrange for your child to meet their class teacher prior to the first day of school. This can help your child to establish a rapport with their teacher and gives you as a parent a point of reference when discussing school Mrs Smith was very friendly and had colourful posters in her room. Be organised have all textbooks, uniforms, and other school supplies purchased well in advance. It is not unusual for uniform shops or newsagents to run out of supplies in the last minute rush. It can be very stressful for children not to have all their supplies on the first day of school. Allow your child to participate in activities such as the purchasing of their school supplies and covering their books, and to have input into what goes in their lunch box. This all helps them to feel in control and to have some ownership over the process of getting prepared for school. Talk to your child about what to expect on their first day of school and gently remind them what you expect from them in terms of their behaviour. Establish a morning routine and stick to it the more calm and organised you are at home, the more settled your child will be when they arrive at school. While set bedtimes tend to fall by the wayside over the school holidays, try to re-establish set bedtimes at least a few nights before school begins to ensure children are well rested on their first day of school. If your child does express negative feelings about returning to school, acknowledge these feelings, but encourage them to focus on positive aspects of school e.g., making friends, playing sports and learning new things. If at all possible, try to take time off work on your childs first day of school in order to drop them off and collect them at the end of the day. This will go a long way to ease any fears or anxiety they may have. If your child does begin to cry when you drop them at school, give them a hug, reassure them that everything will be okay, and then walk away. Allowing them to cling to you, or becoming overemotional yourself, is likely to only escalate their behaviour. Most children settle into the routine of school very quickly. However, if you do notice that your child is struggling to adjust to school after a few weeks, it is a good idea to arrange to speak to your childs teacher or the school guidance counsellor to discuss your concerns.

22.01.2022 Book in for an education consultation today. Testimonial from parent: We met Kylie for a consultation regarding our child who has ASD. She helped us understand the supports and assistance that can be accessed in the schooling system. This enabled us to more effectively advocate for our child and work with the school in collaboratively developing an individualised support plan. We would highly recommend Kylie's consultancy service for parents of special needs children - it will help you navigate the education system and get the best for your child.

12.01.2022 Our daughter has been tutored by Kylie for three years. After seeing several other tutors, we were referred to Kylie. With Kylies help, our daughter had gone from a below average student who struggled with all aspects of the curriculum and finding school very stressful to achieving consistently good marks across the board and is now a very dedicated student who enjoys her education. Kylie has not only tutored our daughter with Maths and English, she has helped change her mindset on schooling. Kylie has also guided us, as parents, through the schooling process offering support and advice when needed. Kylies love and passion for teaching is one-of-a-kind. Carly and Rob

01.01.2022 Kylie was highly recommended as a tutor for our 6 yr old son, by his school, as he has some learning and social difficulties. Kylie is very respectful, warm, playful, calm, engaging and patient. Her educational activities were fun and our son looked forward to seeing her every time. She provided simple exercises, games and ideas for me to use as a parent to engage with our son at home. Her strong knowledge of the education system, childrens development, learning difficultie...s and diverse learning strategies helped me as a parent to understand our sons needs better and how best to engage with him to help him reach his full potential. We are blessed to have a person of Kylies calibre provide guidance and support to our son and family." A.S. See more
