Sadly, due to covid the market was postponed. I was holding onto these items for the next market in September, but sadly, this has been postponed as well.... 19.01.2022 PRIMARY EXPERIMENT | Cycle 3 In Orana some of us have been exploring light. We have been learning about light refraction, reflection and absorption. Here we set a challenge to bounce (reflect) light from one side of the hall to the light switch on the other end. It took lots of adjusting of mirrors - but we did it.

14.01.2022 VIRTUAL DEBATING | Upper primary - 9-12 Our 9-12 students are again participating in the NGS Super National debating Competition. Last year Northside were involved in this activity and were the winners of the competition across all the Independent schools who participated. Last Friday was the first debate between Northside students and Newcastle Grammar School. The topic for the debate was "Advertising should be banned during children's television." 10.01.2022 EXCITING CAPITAL WORKS A few nights ago at the Board meeting the decision was made to commence the development of the Music room to create a Hall / Multi Purpose spaces. Our desire is to commence as soon a practicable to complete this project for the commencement of 2021.... This is an exciting project that will provide the school with much needed indoor space for many of our medium sized community events and events that involved our whole student population. It will also provide the flexibility for our school to expand into the future. We will provide information in the coming weeks in regards to a commencement date, and plan for the possible disruption to a small part of our car park during construction.

09.01.2022 SCHOOL BUS | Northside to Pennant Hills Did you know there is a school bus the goes between Northside and Pennant Hills transport exchange? Leaving from the train station in the morning, the bus travels along Pennant Hills Road, Kissing Point Road and then along Bobbin Head Road, where it drops the students off right out the front of the school to a waiting staff member.... 08.01.2022 GOING OUT | Primary visit Eden Garden The other day we went on a going out to Eden Gardens where we spoke to a horticulturist about our pond, how to improve the water quality and suitable water plants. We got a lot of information. Another group bought soil and plants for the Frog Garden. It was hard work calculating the volume of the containers and pond but it was fun too. 08.01.2022 NMS STREET LIBRARY Northside's new Street Library is now located near the exit driveway on Bobbin Head Road. There will be some guidelines about how to keep Covid safe. These include wiping books down with disinfectant wipes or alcohol wipe prior to use and use hand sanitiser before and after use. 04.01.2022 WRITING WORKSHOPS in Primary Last week our Primary students joined leading Australian authors and illustrators in a series of writing workshops. Presenters included Wendy Orr, Andrew Daddo and Kirli Saunders. Here our Year 5 and 6 have joined Jackie French to hear about her inspirations, to discuss the writing process and to focus on ways to bring historical fiction to life on the page. These sessions have inspired a renewed flourish of writing and some really robust discuss...ions of literature.
